Those cacti may actually come in handy for defense, and maybe even offense. You can generate more by placing one, and then placing a block diagonally above it (not directly on top, but to the side by one). The cactus will attempt to grow, but the new growth will be too close to a block, and it will pop off on its own as an item drop. That way you don't need to break anything. You can use water to help move all the cactus drops into one pickup location, if you feel it's worth using your iron to make a bucket.

@GregariousGregor The new ore map is really cool actually. Things spawn at different layers and at different levels within those layers. Some things are also biome dependent, and some ores have a "reduced/no air generation" meaning they won't generate exposed to air. (this seems kinda bugged though as Lapis apparently has no air generation but I see it all the time). I also like it because if you are digging at the optimal level you will get loads of whatever recourse you want for you pic. 1 diamond pic will reliably get you several diamond pics worth of diamonds and a heck of a lot of other stuff, unlike the old days. There are also MASSIVE iron and copper veins that generate like spider webs and can contain hundreds of ores. But they often spawn diagonally so it's not obvious/the easiest to mine. About the Mineshaft on the surface: It is pretty common for Mineshafts to spawn closer to the surface in Mesa biomes, along with gold as common as coal. I had the complete opposite problem, I knew how to break blocks but didn’t know how to place them so I just made a weird bunker underground that had to be extended every time I went into it lol
This is kind of the most fun way to play the game since it requires exploration. I like to limit myself to surface and blast mining, so hardcore adventure rules make things a bit tricky. You're seriously underutilizing your peaceful options, though. You've made such a running gag of villages only being useful for taking items that you've totally forgotten the long term rewards that can be gained by contributing! They actually have everything you need First of all, farming: If you can still place blocks and do right click actions there's nothing stopping you from doing this now that you've figured out a workaround for pulling crops. This will cover your food supply forever. Failing that, the farmer should still replace the crops you pull at an excruciatingly slow rate. *Make sure he doesn't die.* Any village with a golem should be pretty safe to live in without losing your relationships, which brings me to my next strategy Trading: You can basically beat the entire game using only trading. Someone made a crazy video where he charted out an entire route for his dad to beat the game using as few reflex-intensive actions as possible, and it involved a lot of trading. Mineshafts spawn on the surface in Mesa biomes, which are the ones with the red sand. They're not too rare, but since gold spawns high up in that biome, it's quite useful (in normal circumstances anyway)
I felt weird for still calling them "Mesa" biomes, since that term hasn't been officially used since I think around 2018. Glad I'm not the only one who still uses it haha! It's so much easier to say than "The Badlands" or whatever.
If you make a bucket with some of that iron, you can get some water and release it near the crops to remove them without destroying the farm plot (like you do if you jump on it) and you can easily replant the seeds.
@@papi_apez By breaking them with water? It doesn't break the rule any more than using a creeper to blow stuff up does. Kevin still wouldn't be _directly_ mining a block himself.

1:45 I love how Kevin’s thought process is so clear here “I’ll just jump up here.” “Woah, that’s a pretty deep hole.” “Hmm… I can jump that.” “Nah, I won’t risk it.”
I love these challenges Kevin is doing in Minecraft. I will suggest you do a challenge where you completely switch around your normal controls and make Minecraft really frustrating to play.
You could also do challenges with other people, like you need to get like specific materials or objects, and it's the first person to get those. And you could perhaps set up some rules like, you can't hurt or damage anything, so for example, one of the objects you may need is like a spider eye, but you can't outright kill the Spider, or something similar to that
This is a really fun challenge and I'd definitely love to see more! Those aboveground mineshafts are actually pretty common in the mesa biome, so they're a great way to get better loot without having to mine. It might be worth a shot having a look if the mesa has any more of them. You could also get iron by murdering the iron golems >:)
So in regard to the weird mineshaft around 10min in - In the mesa biomes (big hills of red clay usually next to deserts or savannahs) it is possible for there to be a mineshaft spawn in at higher levels, usually with parts of it or most of it exposed to the surface! They can be pretty dangerous with all of the poison spiders running about, but they have some pretty decent loot! If you continue playing in this area then I would also keep an eye out for any desert temples since you can lure a creeper in to open up the pit for you to enter, just as long as you have enough blocks to staircase out again and don't touch the pressure plate in the centre. You also passed a jungle biome in your boat that may contain a temple with loot in it too, just beware of the traps inside since you can't cheat and mine yourself around them. :)
i absolutely love the fact that you dont know everything about the game, adds a level of "chillness" amidst the regular chaos of your videos. Keep it up my friend.
After doing some thinking i've come to the realization that beating the game without breaking a single block is possible. I'm writing this to describe how. Optimizing your block getting strategy is very important. Personally I'd recommend trying to get gravel and sand with creepers. Then kill creepers for gunpowder, or you can find some in chests. Make TONS of TNT, the more the better. TNT will be our way of mining, however to light it we need a tool. I'm not sure if exploded gravel can drop flint, though you could just find flint and steel in chests. For the nether you need to run around and look for ruined portals, pray for obsidian and eventually you'll have enough for a portal. You could also find the stuff in random chests. The end will probably be the most annoying part, especially getting to it. You need to throw eyes of ender to find it, and then bomb your way down. Once you eventually find the portal after some navigation and explosions you will simply need place a bed to set your spawnpoint. Then you just have to put in your eyes of ender and hop in. Fighting the dragon will go as normal, you can use a bow to knockout the healing crystals. You can also use the bed trick if you're experienced with it.
When going to the end bring lots of tnt and or creepers too. If the end spawn is underground you cannot get out without breaking blocks so you may have to blow it up.
I recommend building a shield. Putting your shield up completely nullifies the blast from a creeper, so you can more accurately and safely choose where they explode
Hey Kevin, I can highly recommend Optifine for lighting, it'll allow you to have light when torch is in your hand rather than having to place it to get the light!
I suppose it is technically possible to complete the game like this. Would probably take ages, getting the obsidian is pure luck with blacksmith and portal chests, and getting to the stronghold would probably take hours of creeper explosions unless you get super lucky, but other than that getting eyes of ender are as easy as ever
@@dr.blockcraft6633 but the one hes on probably isnt. You realize hes already started and hes not going to restart on a new seed, the seed has already been selected and cant be changed now.

Please play more of this challenge. It's so interesting to watch you overcome the obstacles you've set, and you've gotten off to a fantastic start, it would be a shame to end it now!
Kevin!! If you continue this playthrough: you can use a bucket of water to harvest crops without destroying the tilled soil. This can also work with breaking grass/weeds for seeds, which you could put in a composter for bone meal and grow crops faster.
Loving these challenges! Staying in a village might be a good strategy; it will spawn you golems for protection, which will eventually drop you iron when dying! Also, free use of a furnace in blacksmith house, not to mention beds. I hope you continue this one :)
I feel like "I'm not allowed to mine" would be a challenge that - to me - would only apply to literal mining. Like if you have to use a pick to get it then you can't "mine" it. Chopping down trees - digging dirt, and farming shouldn't have counted. This is just my personal opinion though. This was more of a "Minecraft but I'm not allowed to hit any blocks."
I'm so glad to see Kevin posting. I'm very depressed right now and I desperately need a distraction. Have a good time (of day or night wherever you are) everyone! I hope we all will have " tomorrow" to enjoy 🙂
About the strange things starting at 8:00 Kevin, what you found is one of those wasteland biomes (or I think it’s called wasteland or something like that; personally, I just like to call it the red sand biome or the Wild West biome). It’s fairly rare compared to other biomes, and the neat things about this biome is that abandoned mine-shafts are EXTREMELY common and can spawn about anywhere, plus gold ore is much more common there (not that you’d be able to get it with this challenge, lol).
This challenge was especially fun! I’d love to see more of this as a series (I feel like you’ll come up with even more creative strategies as you go)!😄
I need to know how it's stupid are you saying it's not possible? @@alexaapocalypse7058 didn't say was stupid, I was quoting what Kevin said and adding to the joke actually think it's a neat challenge might even try it myself
Also Kevin, if you place three blocks beneath you, you can kill the Iron Golems in the villages without being hurt, normally giving you 3-5 iron ingots (and a rose sometimes!)
I would like to see more of this challenge. I think it's very possible to beat the game without mining. Finding gold to trade with piglins in the nether will probably be necessary though
boats are considered entities iirc so you can break them....also get a water bucket since you can break a few blocks indirectly that way like torches and cobwebs
14:31 the reason it's not catching on fire it's because it's a husk Husk's are special zombies that only spawn in deserts They DONT catch on fire And if one bite's you... You get the hunger effect
Firstly, those trees you were destroying in the desert were azalea trees and lead to Lush Caves and Secondly, mineshafts are extremely common in Mesa biomes.
Hey Kevin, if you craft an iron bucket you can use it to place down water. Then the water can destroy torches for you, allowing you to take torches from villages and get back any torches you place. Also great video
i'd love to see more of this! if you use a flint and steel on a creeper, it causes them to explode, you could use this to go further down in the world and get resources. keep up the great work Kevin.

Kevin's love/pain relationships with Minecraft fire is always a great start to a video
1:45 I love how Kevin’s thought process is so clear here
“I’ll just jump up here.”
“Woah, that’s a pretty deep hole.”
“Hmm… I can jump that.”
“Nah, I won’t risk it.”
I didn't even have to click the timestamp to see what you meant lmao, you're right it's so evident
I love these challenges Kevin is doing in Minecraft. I will suggest you do a challenge where you completely switch around your normal controls and make Minecraft really frustrating to play.
You could also do challenges with other people, like you need to get like specific materials or objects, and it's the first person to get those.
And you could perhaps set up some rules like, you can't hurt or damage anything, so for example, one of the objects you may need is like a spider eye, but you can't outright kill the Spider, or something similar to that
Even more frustrating than what It Is now? Man you really hate Kevin so much
@@Zontar82 hey its free real estate though.
@@FrenchFries2 he would have to ban bots first
Or he can play without looking
This is a really fun challenge and I'd definitely love to see more! Those aboveground mineshafts are actually pretty common in the mesa biome, so they're a great way to get better loot without having to mine. It might be worth a shot having a look if the mesa has any more of them. You could also get iron by murdering the iron golems >:)
murdering the golems is an entire challenge tho
Kevin: No mining allowed
Also Kevin: accidentally "mines" grass 13 seconds in while trying to murder.
Me: it doesn't count cuz the murder part.
@now you know no one cares
@@randomperson6004 its a bot lmao, just report it and move on

Oh come on, boo!
i absolutely love the fact that you dont know everything about the game, adds a level of "chillness" amidst the regular chaos of your videos. Keep it up my friend.
This kinda turns the game... really interesting, in a way. Because it forces you _way more_ to travel, explore faraway places, loot, and take risks.
You can just make the obsidian with lava and water in the right spots to complete the nether portal frame.
I recommend building a shield. Putting your shield up completely nullifies the blast from a creeper, so you can more accurately and safely choose where they explode
I absolutely want to see you beat the game in this world with these rules, those landscapes are crazy!
Imagine Kevin goes through this as a series, gets to the End after struggling so hard, and it's one of the underground spawns with no way out.
i mean tnt
Hey Kevin, I can highly recommend Optifine for lighting, it'll allow you to have light when torch is in your hand rather than having to place it to get the light!
This is def one of my favorite minecraft challenges yet! Very entertaining :) Would love more
I suppose it is technically possible to complete the game like this. Would probably take ages, getting the obsidian is pure luck with blacksmith and portal chests, and getting to the stronghold would probably take hours of creeper explosions unless you get super lucky, but other than that getting eyes of ender are as easy as ever
There are Plenty of Seeds where There are Exposed end Portals
@@dr.blockcraft6633 but the one hes on probably isnt. You realize hes already started and hes not going to restart on a new seed, the seed has already been selected and cant be changed now.
You could use lava and water buckets to make a portal too
@@pyromaniac000000 he could also try finding a stronghold connected to a cave, i remember seeing that stuff a lot. also he doesnt need obsidian to make the portal he just needs water and lava buckets and a 2 minute tutorial
oh wait he doesnt need a cave system or creepers i forgot tnt exists haha
“Do you want to walk into fire? That sounds really fun!” That’s my brain to me this entire week (3 exams in one day!!!!) Thanks for all the laughs even in trying times, Kevo ♥️
This!! Except would using the bucket to put down and pick it up count as a "mining" action?
Loving these challenges! Staying in a village might be a good strategy; it will spawn you golems for protection, which will eventually drop you iron when dying! Also, free use of a furnace in blacksmith house, not to mention beds. I hope you continue this one :)
The mineshaft you found above ground is “common” but only in the biome you were in. It’s still rare, just not as much in that area.
For someone who enjoys locking people in his basement, Kevin sure loves putting himself through hell with these challenges...
Penance
Yes... "Kevin" is putting himself through this. No coercion from a malevolent overlord going on at all.
Obviously he's a switch :p
Quatsch nit
"It started as a joke but now we're here."
-most of Kevin's videos
Please continue this I want to see you complete the game I love these Minecraft challenges
"Keep on keeping on."
Same and I'm still depressed
Even though it's already been said, loving these challenges!
"can you play Minecraft without Mining"... That's like asking "can Kevin not be a psychopath" it's impossible but it's fun to see Kevin try
Man, I just love Kevin. He’s so cool.
About the strange things starting at 8:00
Kevin, what you found is one of those wasteland biomes (or I think it’s called wasteland or something like that; personally, I just like to call it the red sand biome or the Wild West biome). It’s fairly rare compared to other biomes, and the neat things about this biome is that abandoned mine-shafts are EXTREMELY common and can spawn about anywhere, plus gold ore is much more common there (not that you’d be able to get it with this challenge, lol).
The land-level mineshafts are only generated in the mesa (or badlands as its called in-game)
Pretty lucky nonetheless though
Ahhh, now we just need a no crafting challenge, and finally, a no mining or crafting challenge to properly complete the trilogy 😌
Badlands biomes are pretty rare, but all of the stuff you found in it is pretty common in that biome.
Thanks I was looking for an explanation
its so entertaining watching your challenges in minecraft and seeing you come up with creative work arounds for it ^_^
Kevin has such great, creative strategies when it comes to these challenges.
Can we bring back military genius?
“This will be the hardest challenge yet” me remembering the guy that beat Minecraft without breaking blocks, left clicking, or jumping.
Was that toycat? I know he's done minecraft challenges like that
nah this one is harder
link?
Kevin, this series of videos you've been making are on of the little things that make my bad days better.
Absolutely, do a full playthrough without ever mining.
This seed is actually amazing like it looks so pretty in some parts and it has so many wierd spawns and places, Kevin needs to give us this seed.
Yes! Part two would be awesome! This would make a great series, and you're already creating strategy XD
I think this is the bit of joy the world needed today, thanks Kevin.
This challenge was especially fun! I’d love to see more of this as a series (I feel like you’ll come up with even more creative strategies as you go)!😄
"This might be the stupidest idea I've had so far"
Kevin setting a new bar
I need to know how it's stupid are you saying it's not possible? Honestly think it might be possible might take forever but still think it's possible thanks to creepers exploding ,iron golems can drop iron, he hasnt fished yet but I think that could also help him because he cant make books to get enchants because of the paper situation . Honestly this challenge is intriguing not stupid but I'm still pretty new so just wondering why it's stupid to you ? Genuinely just curious
@@alexaapocalypse7058 didn't say was stupid, I was quoting what Kevin said and adding to the joke
actually think it's a neat challenge might even try it myself
The exposed mineshafts are common in the badlands biome (the one with red sand), but the badlands biome itself is kinda rare.
Also Kevin, if you place three blocks beneath you, you can kill the Iron Golems in the villages without being hurt, normally giving you 3-5 iron ingots (and a rose sometimes!)
9:05 so sad you didn't say oh well. But great video thanks as always.
I would like to see more of this challenge. I think it's very possible to beat the game without mining. Finding gold to trade with piglins in the nether will probably be necessary though
I was playing Minecraft, got this notification, and stopped everything I was doing to watch Kevin play.
Completely support more of these videos, it was such a rollercoaster of highs and lows, a classic Kevin adventure
I would love to see this turned into a series to see how far you can possibly get. Love your content Kevin!
This is such an interesting challenge, it would be great to see a whole series of it
boats are considered entities iirc so you can break them....also get a water bucket since you can break a few blocks indirectly that way like torches and cobwebs
FYI you can also obtain stone by exploding creepers near it
14:31 the reason it's not catching on fire it's because it's a husk
Husk's are special zombies that only spawn in deserts
They DONT catch on fire
And if one bite's you...
You get the hunger effect
Loved it. I'd binge watch an entire series on this concept. More, Kevin.
I’d really like to know how he got out of that hole he fell in without breaking any blocks lol
Me too
Probably the wool he got from the sheep
@@ACraziMonki doesent add up, if you count every sheep he kills, the same amount of wool will be in his inventory before and after
Just judging by the title lemme say, rip to all the poor villagers Kevin comes across during this challenge
"I'm not sure how I'll get iron without breaking anything."
Kevin's soul: I guess I'm irrelevant.
These Minecraft challenges are so enjoyable
I’d love to see a full series of this! A “no crafting” series or one off would also be super cool!
I didn’t want to say anything, buuuuutttt 0:28. GRASS💀
Day 188 of asking Kevin to play Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey
4:11 just gonna ignore how he got out lol
Was searching for this comment!
Firstly, those trees you were destroying in the desert were azalea trees and lead to Lush Caves and Secondly, mineshafts are extremely common in Mesa biomes.
It must've been a huge lush cave cause I saw like 3 or 4 more trees nearby besides the ones he destroyed
Have loved all of your Minecraft series so far but this one feels special and super different! Please make this into a series Kevin!
Mentions he has years of Minecraft experience, sees a dessert village: "Dessert stronghold!"
4:10 he falls down a shaft, immediately cuts forward to being out of the shaft so he doesn’t have to admit that he had to mine to get out
He may have had blocks to place, or gone into creative mode. I find it hard to believe he sat there punching blocks for the 10-20 mins it would take.
11:21 😂😂😂
Hey Kevin, if you craft an iron bucket you can use it to place down water. Then the water can destroy torches for you, allowing you to take torches from villages and get back any torches you place. Also great video
i'd love to see more of this! if you use a flint and steel on a creeper, it causes them to explode, you could use this to go further down in the world and get resources. keep up the great work Kevin.
