Wow, thanks for this! I bought a Sega CDX and subsequently a 32x in the 90's military. It was my first foray into Sega and I loved it. Games like Ecco the Dolphin with music you could play in your car and Lunar with animation cutscenes just blew my mind. I still play a decent amount of current gen games, but I miss the days of new systems opening new levels of wonder and joy.
Did you have the 32X plugged into the Sega CDX like I did? What a fun abomination. Could only half open the CD tray and it would tip over easily. But... how many of us had that particular combo? A rare breed indeed!
Yeah same with you 😅, Going to make an update. Have a new version. And something it coming to the channel to that wil use the full power of the Sega Tower. I think many will like this new project
My dad bought it when it first came out, and we still have it, and it works fine! My favorite game was Time Gal it sure is fun to play it once and awhile. :)
I remember reading about that game in a SEGA magazine back in the day. I read those over and over, and I'm fairly sure it got a score of 87/100. Strange how some insignificant details get stuck in your memory forever.
Recently picked up a Sega CD with Silpheed. Awesome game. So far I always die in the third level at the part where the announcer says "There's too many of them!". You need fast reflexes and of course to play it alot.
Awesome pickup man! I was lucky enough to find a cdx a few years ago. Sadly though its starting to have issues reading discs. Love all things Sega my dude. Peace out from Las Vegas.
Thats a great looking lineup you have, that Megadrive 1 is freaking pristine. A friend had this but I never did, now that I got my Polymega I can play Sega CD which has been fun. Notes otes made on the ones you showed, a couple I wouldn't have thought of, so thank you. :)
Some cool things i liked about the sega classic games is the sampled voices for streets of rage. and one cool fact is sonic cd, the music for the past stages you wont be able to play from the cd (you can in the da garden menu) because the past music is playing from the megadrives audio chip, to represent the past. pretty cool
I never bought this ad on because I couldn't afford it at the moment as I had a NES, Master System, Genesis and SNES. Plus the games for each. I remember seeing it discounted at $25 but didn't buy it and I was sorry. But it's good that you have one it has several great games. Cool video Wicked!👍
Cool find, I had one near release - a Japanese grey import with Earnest Evans and SolFeace. Unfortunately the lack of great games in its first year made me sell it before the greater games like Final Fight CD got released ✌️
I had the mega drive back in the 90s only had the original 3 button controller but found it so much easier to use upside down so the D Pad and buttons faced away from you, able to have a finger on each button to save your thumb especially with games like echo the dolphin
My cousins got this day 1, still remember playing Night Trap (at age 10) and then wondering why congress made a big stink about it. Never played the MK2 port but heard it was the best one. Great vid.
Sega megadrive is my all time favourite machine the Japanese model 1 is the best looking with the big 16 bit logo and blue reset button, so glad it was cartridge based so need to worry about cd drives wearing out i think the megadrive is the most reliable old school console out there and replacement chips ect can be found unlike the snes which has ppu issues without replacements to hand, such a shame I've had 2 snes die on me now but my original megadrive I've had since 1989 is still going strong i have one of the first models with a cartridge lock mech, i did have a mega cd once but sold it, sonic cd, kios flying squadron, mk1 and night trap were pretty awesome, i always remember being super excited about night trap as it was fmv and seeing those film cut scenes was pretty hardcore for the day especially on a 16bit console, good days.
I was lucky to get a pal and a ntsc US megacd 1 at the time when they were more affordable. Needed the ntsc US version for my US games because playing them with a cdx cart on a pal system, i found that the sound has a lag especially during the fmv sections. A while ago the US system started to fail because of bad capacitors,so i thought thats it,its kaput, busted, but thank heavens i was able to find someone with master soldering skills an got it back in perfect working order.I can play popfull mail without any issues anymore. Great video and informative. Greatings from a fellow dutchman.
I owned it too at the time, and the 32x also... with the 60hz mod it was a must... unfortunately I usually sold the older machines to buy the newer ones, but it doesn't matter, they were good memories...
Congrats on getting a sega cd model 1! I heard that these were one of if not the rarest thing you could get for a model 1 genesis. I myself have a North American model 2 and the same goes for my sega cd as well. I don’t regret the set up I have currently, but I can’t say that I’m not a little bit jealous since the design of the model 1 sega cd is really nice. I think the one issue with having that sega cd is just getting it repaired as time goes on and keeping it in good shape for years to come. By the way if the buttons on the front of the sega cd don’t turn on, then I suggest getting that checked out. Usually they have a green light and the red light glow behind them but from this footage it doesn’t seem to light up. But honestly that should be the least of your worries since it actually works and your extremely lucky. But yeah I hope that you have a good time collecting for your newly acquired sega cd model 1.
Ik own the mega cd 2. Bought it years ago for 20 euros. Been using it again since 2 months when i bought the Analogue Mega SG. Awesome for changing the bios to usa (with software on the SG so no chips or modding needed) and just play usa backups. No issues with expensive games or slow pal versions :)
loved the model 1 sega cd. I never new anyone that owned it in the 90s, only the side loaded segacd drives. Loved the segacd, was just a magical console. One of my faavorite games was Adventures of Willy Beamish. Keep hoping it gets a remaster at some poiint
The one I had and paid 800 gulden for it... And was sooooooo dissappointed :P... It took away so much of my love for the megadrive back then. I did love Thunderhawk and Final Fight was great... But after that it was mostly fmv games or megadrive games but now with cd music and a fmv intro/outro. With the exception of the collection disc that I also had, but I am sure Monaco GP wasn't on there.
Congrats. I still have my original first gen Genesis and model 1 Sega Cd and I love it. I also have a working and a none working spare just in case it dies.
Back in the day, a good friend of mine gave it to me because it was broken. I kept it for a few months, but since I had no MD, it ended in the garbage can. It's a big regret, sure, but it's kind of a relief to tell this story here.
I found a complete system at a yard sale for $40. Was extremely dirty but worked. I felt so bad for the dude selling it but I didn’t want to tell him it’s worth much more. Yes I own Wild Woody.
i tried once. it actually performs like it was way advanced for its time. it worked very well. the one i tried it made alot of noise when spining up the CD. was that the same? i had the IR controlers... no cables :D batteries ran fast but who cares for the TV's remote? as kid we were the remotes xD
As regards of controllers’ shape, my favorite will always be the infra red one. Yeah, I know the signal is a problem these days but size and shape are like the best of six button and 3 button controllers together.
Why get the PAL version where every game runs 17% slower than JP and NA versions. The Japanese MD is always best to get the best hardware with the Mega Drive branding.
I had the model 1 as a kid. Wish I had kept it. Was my first cd player too! haha. Althought i loved Sonic CD.... I kinda enjoyed Mickey Mania most on it the most!
I really like the Model 1 because it looks so pro when you attach it to the Genesis. I still have mine that's in perfect condition. In fact I also have the CDX in Mint Condition!
Mega Drive 1 and Mega CD 1 was the best looking console, the MD2 and MCD2 was awful looking. I have been looking for one of these for my MD1 for years but the prices are going up and up!
I started gaming back in 1986 with the Nes and Master System. However, I didn't become a hardcore player until the release of the Sega Genesis in 1989. The second I saw both Altered Beast and Ghouls n' Ghosts running on my Genesis that was it...I was no longer a casual. The Model 1 Sega Genesis coupled with the Model 1 Sega CD looks like very high-end stereo equipment today. Back in 1992 there was nothing on the market that looked as sleek as the Genesis w/Sega CD.
I consider myself lucky for getting a Sega Mega CD Model I. I had just gotten a Mega Drive from a local Charity Shop for $5AU. So basically I decided to get the add-ons for completists' sake. The Mega CD I got from a British seller, and the 32X I got from eBay. And let me tell you, I am proud of owning the complete set. It's worth it!
I live in America so I played the Sega Genesis. Model 1 of Sega CD the only game I know that had an issue was Mortal Kombat CD. People had to buy the game and mail away it back to the company for a working copy. Sega CD model 2 did not have this issue.
I picked one of these up last year, I got extra lucky as mine was the model with the JVC CD drive, only about 10% of systems had JVC drives all the rest had Sony drives and don't seem to be as durable . It's a beautiful system but getting games for it isn't easy or cheap.
Well, can always download them and burn them. Sega CD has no protection as piracy wasn't practical back then. I still have my original system and a spare backup I got cheap before retro became the craze.
I got lucky and picked one of these up like 6 years ago. It was broken and I paid $9.99 at a goodwill. All it needed was a fuse replaced and stuck in the drive was lunar: the silver star. It's my second best retro find.
My first ever game i beat on the MEGA CD/SEGA CD was Lunar: Silver Star. Let me tell you i loved Working Design's dub of Lunar: Silver Star on SEGA (MEGA) CD, and PS. I also liked the releas on Saturn, (wasn't published by Working Designs though) i thing the studio to publish it on Saturn was ?kadokawa? Still have my SEGA model 1 w/ CD & 32X, would *DEFINITELY* recommend getting the Terra Onion flash cart to save on wear an' tear on the CD tbh.
The Mega CD should have been a 32 bit add on. I don't understand why Sega released it so early in 92 I believe, then still made the ugly 32X later when it all could have been a single 32 bit CD add on for the Mega Drive more in line with the Saturn and PlayStation.
Streets of rage on the megacd has original voice sound effects without the memory limitations of the megadrive version. This is the only version that has it.
My roommate had one of these back in the day. I remember buying the Tiger Woods golf game, because it had a hidden file you read with a PC CD-ROM. This file was the "Jesus vs Santa" South Park episode in all it's glory. Edit - Upon further review. It seems I may have crossed the memory with a Playststion memory. - will delete
I play SEGA-CD on the Retroad 5 Plus from Ali-Express with the MD Extension Converter and a Mega Everdrive Pro. I just can't get cutscene audio. It has HDMI out as well and different aspect ratios. I think I could even use my 8bitdo SNES dongle and the 8bitdo m30 bluetooth controller. Never tried but I will have to check. The layout may be wrong. Not sure.
i love the mk1 mega cd. i had the mega cd 2 second hand back in the day (just before the saturn was released). really enjoyed it but the mk1 was the style i liked, really complimented the mega drive mk1. the only trouble is my mk1 mega cd.. the sega logo boots but the console freezes and wont do anything else :(
MK1 .. almost bought it only noticed some things of the game I did not like to be honest. Ow and I need to 80 euro's for it incomplete... that doesn't help either 🙄
Hey wicked, nice video but you really want to get an NTSC mega cd and mega drive for full screen.the pal versions running slower with borders ruins the experience. This model is nice together but final fight looks better full screen and faster.thanksvfor video🙏
yeah I have been thinking about doing this... Only that is going to be a super expensive thing to do 🤣 Maybe in the future i can swap to a different region.. for now I think i'm super happy with this setup 😅
This has always been the best looking console to me, the Mk1 Megadrive and Mega-CD. Perfect 👌
I agree, it looks like a piece of 80s Hi-Fi equipment. I wish the Saturn looked as cool.
You know what one of the worst combos is? The Sega CDX with a 32X plugged-in.
2nd best iteration for me. I prefer the North American Sega Genesis ontop of the Sega CD. Something about the color scheme that does it for me.
SEGA TOWER OF POWER!!!
The JVC X'EYE is the best looking console 😉
Wow, thanks for this! I bought a Sega CDX and subsequently a 32x in the 90's military. It was my first foray into Sega and I loved it. Games like Ecco the Dolphin with music you could play in your car and Lunar with animation cutscenes just blew my mind. Sega CDX.. that is one awesome piece of tech.
Wanted to get it for review only that one is even more crazier to find 🙄
Did you have the 32X plugged into the Sega CDX like I did? What a fun abomination. Could only half open the CD tray and it would tip over easily. But... how many of us had that particular combo? A rare breed indeed!
Even for a broken SEGA CDX you'd be paying at least $300 - $500 on second hand market.
Ikr @cwispy joe
Frankenstein consoles, love it. Road rash cd was my favorite. Great review 👍 edit: I just realized I watched this years ago. 😅
Yeah same with you 😅, Going to make an update.
Have a new version. And something it coming to the channel to that wil use the full power of the Sega Tower.
I think many will like this new project
@@WickedGamerCollector Yesss...must be the 32X!
I have the model 1 Sega CD and the 32X also, love it great retro gaming takes me back to my youth
7:25 Fun fact on Classic arcade collection. They removed the option to play 2-players on Golden Axe, but i dont know why.
My dad bought it when it first came out, and we still have it, and it works fine! My favorite game was Time Gal it sure is fun to play it once and awhile. :)
You got the RGB cable might as well get a CRT to really enjoy the 16 bit graphics.
I have only did not use it for the video 😅
Silpheed is one of the all time best Sega cd games!! You need it in your collection!
I remember reading about that game in a SEGA magazine back in the day. I read those over and over, and I'm fairly sure it got a score of 87/100. Strange how some insignificant details get stuck in your memory forever.

Awesome pickup man! I was lucky enough to find a cdx a few years ago. Sadly though its starting to have issues reading discs. Love all things Sega my dude. Peace out from Las Vegas.
There are good amateur refurbishers out there nowadays. You should get that baby some TLC!
Clean the lens with a damp qtip. That's all it prob needs. Have done it to many non reading ps2s and that was that
If it's just starting to go bad you can probably adjust it and get it ok until it does go out but it's totally replaceable.
That is so cool wicked congrats my friend
people mock the MD add-ons but original MD/Genesis and original Sega/Mega CD together is the coolest looking console of all time.
You took me back to my Sega Genesis gaming days!! Awesome!!
I had that Sega CD version, I played night trap but not Sega 32bit drive. Yeah Sega console was basically Frankenstein.
Best looking version to have!
best thing about the mega cd is no copy protection so you can play games like snatcher that is so expensive these days
Model 1 is best looking console of all time... designer should get award.
Awesome! Loved the model 1 megacd 👍 I knew someone who had Soulstar on it, absolutely loved it
One of the best things about Sonic CD is the music and the intro too. Many ports don't have them.
Thats a great looking lineup you have, that Megadrive 1 is freaking pristine. A friend had this but I never did, now that I got my Polymega I can play Sega CD which has been fun. Notes otes made on the ones you showed, a couple I wouldn't have thought of, so thank you. :)
I remember when it came out... 🥺
I found the usa version of the Sega CD model 1 at a New Jersey thrift store 5 years ago as a bonus Spider-Man Vs the King Pin was in the system
Lucky you! I really want one of these as I love the look
Some cool things i liked about the sega classic games is the sampled voices for streets of rage. and one cool fact is sonic cd, the music for the past stages you wont be able to play from the cd (you can in the da garden menu) because the past music is playing from the megadrives audio chip, to represent the past. pretty cool

I've found quite a some in Japanese auction site, but they often sell for extremely expensive, even for the broken one.
Cool find, I had one near release - a Japanese grey import with Earnest Evans and SolFeace. Unfortunately the lack of great games in its first year made me sell it before the greater games like Final Fight CD got released ✌️
Earnest Evans is a great game, with a awesome soundtrack.
Or should we call it Earnest Vania? :D
Only saw one in the wild, if I remember correctly a greeting card type of show. My friend had the model 2 with the wide Genesis.
I had the mega drive back in the 90s only had the original 3 button controller but found it so much easier to use upside down so the D Pad and buttons faced away from you, able to have a finger on each button to save your thumb especially with games like echo the dolphin
Damn, i feel old 😂😂😂
Hello from Romania
My cousins got this day 1, still remember playing Night Trap (at age 10) and then wondering why congress made a big stink about it. Never played the MK2 port but heard it was the best one. Great vid.
The power jack plugs on these devices are centre negative! be careful with replacements.
Still got my model 1 Mega CD and a fair few games still works well.
Congratulations !
I had one and it seems you have a batch of fairly good games. Final Fight is definitly the best of the bunch.
Wolfchild's music is good because it's an Amiga game. The Amiga had incredible audio capabilities (and talented people who wrote games soundtracks).
True about the audio.
Sega Mega CD COOL 😁
Only realize I need to recap this one.
That is excellent. I have been looking for one for years and still not found one yet. Thanks for the video
Hi, there on eBay for reasonable prices best get one modded for all region games and full screen.
Wouw, jij heb hem!!
Awesome! So happy for you!
I have the mega CD 1 boxed in perfect condition. I bought it myself in August 1993.
That is so cool you still own it.

I got this when it came out , it’s in my garage now In the original box with my other classic consoles. Brings back memories.
thanks you sir, i wanna back in 90s
Thanks. I'm surprised you haven't reviewed the ODroid N2 especially as it has a giant heatsink
Good point.. i have it here totally forgot to review it bacause I have so many different subject.

@@Vauxfan2k il give it a good check over and see
Hey wicked, nice video but you really want to get an NTSC mega cd and mega drive for full screen.the pal versions running slower with borders ruins the experience. This model is nice together but final fight looks better full screen and faster.thanksvfor video🙏
yeah I have been thinking about doing this...
Only that is going to be a super expensive thing to do 🤣
Maybe in the future i can swap to a different region.. for now I think i'm super happy with this setup 😅
@@WickedGamerCollector it's a cool set up Mr wicked again thanks for your great channel 😊
