The brightness is due to HDR. The portal is not a HDR display so when you’re remote playing you may have to toggle that off for it to display the brightness correctly. I just think this is can be fixed by Sony with an update so that users that toggle that HDR from the portal itself.

1) thanks for the view 🙏 2) where were you trying to connect and was it on wifi or mobile hotspot? 3) did you get a refund? It might just be a bunk unit. I use it on the daily around the city and home and i haven't had issues unless the wifi is bad.
Ya, it’s all about good internet, so depending on Restuarant, or work, or friends is not the ideal situations, can’t work well with slow internet, cloud gaming, it is not local gaming. I have a brother in law who has 1Tb speed and it worked great. Also depends on the network’s congestions of others. Mine works great in great internet locations, you have to figure out when that is.
Yeah internet strength is key. I hope my video showed that. I definitely had a better experience in the burbs where the Internet is faster and less congested.
