I own both and like both. The 45 feels like more of a camp/bushcraft knife while the T5 is a solid blend of survival and tactical notes. If I could only own one, and price mattered I'd buy a used T5. If price didn't matter I'd probably just own both. I have the K490 T6 on the way, just got a good deal on a used one.
The Lionsteel T5 is ein absolutly great knife and with a secondary convex edge the knife is next level. I own two T5 and one has a secondary convex edge, nearly a scandivex and it's a woodworking beast.
Sounds awesome!!!
I did the same to mine! So much better for wood related tasks.
dont tell my wife .. i recently upgraded my collection with an M7 and got now the M4, M7, T5 and T6 and i have to say the handle of the lionsteel knives (minus the M4) are just too good.. its hard to go back once you held one for a while
Then you need to finish the collection with the KC-01!!! 😊
@@ruggeroama9464 Yea i realy hope to get one but i heared they are a limited run 😅
I feel ya guy I've got the t6 and m7 myself I would have more but my dumb butt bought a trc apocalypse it's a great knife but I could've bought two lionsteel knives in its place unfortunately I bought first
T5 for the win! Only downside is i don't buy sheath knives anymore because i can't find one that i like more.
T5 is a joke compared to a TRC Mille Cuori or a TRC M1.
Great comparison...I own both knives and they sit side-by-side in my knife drawer. So when I walk out the door to hike or camp I am happy with either one I grab. However, with that said as for the handles, the T5 wins hands down. As for performance, it's hard to say which one I like best. I do prefer a Kydex sheath as with the 45. I also like a dangler so I added a 'D' ring and made a leather dangler attachment for my T5. Lionsteel has just come out with a T5 Kydex sheath for $58. The spine on the 45 is about as sharp as the blade for striking a fire steel. I don't use my knives for that so it didn't matter. Overall, I think my T5 edges out the 45 slightly.
I would love to carry that Ursus. So nice.
Man, your a wealth of information. Whenever I get the urge to buy a new knife I just start watching your videos until I see something I like. You were right about the scales on the pr4 Essee but with those after markets it’s a great kephart…….k62 is nicer though👍 you should do more videos for entry level bushcraft and campers, nobody knows what to buy
I checked out the T5 based on your recommendation and researched the heck out of it. I find it a solid knife and use it around camp all the time. I do think if falls short for hunting and do have my preferred knives for that. The T5 is one of knives that gets laid out when choosing gear to go the woods.
For the newbies, Aaron is THE best reviewer of knives, outdoor equipment and clothing, bar none. I have the Lion steel M7 because you recommended it and it's a beauty and one of my go to knives! I always get concerned about being out alone, soooo, it's time to pick up a Zoleo!!! Thanks again, bud!
I have a ton of fixed blades because of Aaron as well he shifted my whole knife collection from folders to exclusively fixed blades!!!!!!!!
@@phillipfelts6687 I too went to mostly fixed blades even for edc because they are way stronger. The only one I kept was the Cold steel recon 1 Tanto because of the amazing Tri-ad lock.
Both the Lionsteel and White River are great knives. I would throw the Bradford Guardian 4.5 into the mix as well. I would take any one of the three over the new Benchmade Bushcrafter any day of the week. I was at Blade Show today and got to know the folks at Bradford and White River. Really nice people. Couldn't resist, bought a knife from each of them.
Great response..love em all as well!
I’m glad I came to this channel , I take comfort in knowing that others share my addiction.😇 So far I have the M5 and the B41.
I have the M5 Hunter lion steel knife and I freaking love it, I haven't pulled the trigger on a White River yet
Nice comparison. I bought t5 after your first presentation and i m really happy to own and use this awesome knife daily. Great job 👍
I’ve got em all, neither of these are tops imo, instead:
Large hands.. TKC/Architect 5.5 in 3v
Medium/large hands.. Bradford 5.5 in elmax or magnacut.
Small hands.. TKC/Architect 4.5
Two other fantastic lighter high-end trekking options: the TRC M1 or Southpole are both friggin awesome, but pricey.. but worth it.
Haven't heard of that steel, both look good!
Knifesteel Nerd rates Niolox with a max toughness of around 60.5 Rc at 7.7 ft/lbs. S35VN at the same RC rates 8.3 ft/lbs. Both steels have Niobium but S35VN is a true Crucible steel. If Lionsteel made the T5 in a better steel, I would have never bought my Ursus. As is, the Ursus 45 is my favorite knife. I carry it everyday and have yet to find fault with it. Mine is the DLT exclusive 3V version, so the T5 in Niolox looks pretty silly by comparison. If Lionsteel made the T5 in 3V or Magnucut, I'd sell most other knives in my collection to get it. But not my Ursus.
You're a marketing victim. Steel is literaly the last factor you should care for on a knife, its' everything else tha matter more. That being said, I'm not a fun of T5, I'd go for the way more practical Ursus, if not for an even more practical Manly Patriot which is my most used knife. Anytihng esle, is just collector's tastes.
White River doesn't get enough credit.
They are excellent
I paid $138 and free shipping for the T5 a few months ago ....Chicago Knife Works
stop telling everyone..they will raise the prices and go out of stock
Oh boy, that’s a tough question! Not sure how I would choose. Ursus has better steel and is more slicey, but Lionsteel is my favorite brand. True dilemma.
Choice and more choices
Go for the KC-01 by Lionsteel and you are set! 😊
@@ruggeroama9464 I have the T6, M5, and B35. I haven’t seen the KC-01 before. How did I miss that? Is it new? Sweet looking blade.
@@jonathancupp3686 it is new and almost sold out…..I think there is only one review online at the moment. I have one and it is fantastic. But I admit that I am biased with Mr. Molletta designs :)
Well done, good comparison.
My T5 is a bit thick behind the edge but good for very hard use. I abused it hard splitting through hardwood, knots and such and the edge is still fine. The T5 and my little Pukko knive together are a perfect team.
Nice looking knives to beat the wilderness into submission. I recently added a BPS Trail Cheff and a BPS Stingray to my collection. The Trail Cheff is fantastic in the camp kitchen. The Stingray only turned up today so time will tell.
If Lionsteel made the T5 in 3v I think I would trade all my knives for it.
I loooooove the knife though and like you I’ll put it through its paces and see how niolox stands up.
The edge retention is very good and ergonomics are chefs kiss!
That would be awesome
Then get a TRC Mille Cuori anything esle in it's category, is a Joke compared to it.
Great heads up comparison Aaron! I've owned the T5 for years now. It usually lives in the door pouch in the truck. I am a big fan of White River tho. I appreciate everything about them and their price point is not a deal breaker.
Joe @ 5 minute knives does a great kydex sheath for the Lionsteel!
It is crystal clear that T5 is still the King also the best VFM. I have it for 4 years and still can't find something even as equal, specially for that price, Long Live The King. Lionsteel you delivered a masterpiece.
It is really a great blade
T5 a King? T5 is a Joke compared to a TRC Knives Mille Cuori
Another excellent comparison between two really good knives. It seems that the scale tips more towards the Lionsteel T5 though...
Great comparison, I definitely need to pick up a T5
Lionsteel for me.
Damn , you got me again with the blade envy Aaron .. I'm sure both are amazing blades that would be awesome to own. If I had to pick one the WR Ursus would be it. I may never own either one but I will always be happy with my Tops BOB , BM bushcrafter & Esse RB3. Thanks for another top notch review my friend.
Т5 and m7.
Even with closed eyes my choice is White River Ursus. Thanks for this great comparison 🔪
Lionsteel has some Great knives at fair prices, but they are making great strides! As an American, I try to buy American, but in the Brotherhoods of knives, I support all of our knife brothers. White River makes some wonderful knives too, but best bang for the buck, LionSteel is the winner! The better comparison would have been the White River against the LionSteel M5!
Ummm..Tops and Esee I think the best.
I've gained many tools from Watching your channel. It's all good! Lol
Excellent reviews GD!
Both look like awesome knives. S35VN is an awesome steel. 3V for doomsday is always my first choice , Although Magnacut has inched its way into my rotations. White River makes awesome knives and so does Lion Steel. The T5 as well as the Ursus 45. But The reality I have so many awesome knives I could not justify the purchase. Aaron another great review. I will note the Ursus pup looks nice but the ergoes fell short.
TRC Mille Cuori or M1 beats both with a huge difference.
I have both Ursus 45’s in S35VN & 3V that I use in different scenarios. Winter vs. Summer sort of thing but I use both year round. I don’t baton with my knives as I always carry an axe. Just a personal choice. I like the looks of the Lion Steel and have held them but just not a fan of that integral handle. I guess I like the full tang of the Ursus. The T5, is “sorta” full tang but is surrounded by a thicker chunk of micarta. It definitely has a good fit and finish on that knife, like all of their knives. I own an H2 and it’s great, just not a fan of their larger blades. It’s all just personal preference. If I was going to buy a European knife, it would be the Joker Nomad or Lynx. Incredibly well made and priced well. I guess I’ve just been a White River fanboy since they came out.
Try the KC-01 by Lionsteel and I am sure you will change your mind regarding their big blades 😊
@@ruggeroama9464 No thanks. I will stick with my White River & TKell Knives. I like full tang blades and not skeletonized. 😎
@@Ben.Simon.Actual KC-01 is a full tang :). At 240 euro! There is no way there is something better on the market :)
@@ruggeroama9464 No thanks. I’m guessing it’s skeletonized like the M5 or BK-16.
Easy…buy em both! I did!
I really like these kind of reviews where you have two good knives rather than having to say one is good and one is bad. I know you didn't like the Mora robust because you always think about Bushcraft but I like that knife and a lot of other people do. But through judicious shopping on eBay I managed to score some pretty nice knives so I go back and I watch your videos and others that reviewed nice from 5 years ago. I'm a fan of Steel will and the only way to get them that I know of is to go to eBay and many people have them brand new.
I don't own the White River, but I do own the T5 and I own plenty of other blades in s35vn and I'd have to say, from my own experience, your comparison of s35 vs niolox is right on.
Lionsteel
T5 for me
Hey Aaron, great video. Thanks for your input on these two blades. How does the Joker nomad fit into a comparison with these two?
I feel like it is good but different in several ways.
Get a Joker Nomad, put the difference in your tank, and call it a day.
T5🎉
I think this year is the time for me to break down and pick up a Lionsteel. Perhaps at Blade Show Atlanta. Will you be there this year?
Hey buddy! Can you please give us a review on the new Buck Alpha Guide fixed blades?
I have a review on the s35vn version
@@gideonstactical
I did see the review on the Alpha Hunter and scout. I was just curious on your opinions of the Field guide which has the 4.5 blade.
I have the Ursus in 3V. You vote with your dollar, and mine goes to the less tactical more edc friendly USA made option. Not knocking the Lionsteel, but the Ursus is my choice.
I bought in both steels and prefer 3v. I love 3v so I would carry that one every time.
I would like to see ur video about tops bob knife. Did u check this knife?
A long time ago check the tops knives play list.
both a win/win give the nod to white river made in michigan
Do you still like the LionSteel M7, or have you found something better since those reviews?
lion steel
REIFF F6 Magnacut HRC???
60-62 which is good for this size knife
Just get a bark river Aurora and never look back
I carry the ursus 45....after years of carrying hundreds of knives..
We all know it always comes to personal taste 😂
I like the lion more, you might like the other.. no one is wrong
Totally
G'day Aaron, these two are right up my alley, but I'll give the nod to the T5; ..... beefier is better for on the trail IMO and S35 is my tried and true favorite. Yeah, I prefer kydex, though well done leather is fine.
To be honest, being Lionsteel, I thought it'd be significantly more expensive, especially with currency conversion, so I've never seriously considered the purchase ....... now its in the crosshairs ; ) Cheers Duke.
Second comment 🎉

10…..
Id say the SRK-C in 3v. Everything else is just branding and marketing.
Personally SRK-C in regular carbon steel is all anyone needs.
What work around camp need a 5in blade.
This is just more marketing for ridiculously overpriced knives.
$200 for a fixed blade is insane. But fools believe all the marketing
