First off congratulations on getting a new Redfoot tortoise!!! Second thank you for subscribing to the channel. If you get time send a picture of the little dude. Also if you have any questions please feel free to ask!
Hey hi, since a few weeks now, we have two baby redfoots. One is probably about 6 months old. I bought him/her from someone who has morocoy babies now and then, when he finds them between the plants in his garden. And the other one is about 3 months old. I bought him/her from a pet store. We are living on the tropical island of Aruba, so we have tropical climate but normally very dry. We are still new to this and I'm trying to find all the information I can find. So that I can provide them with the best possible care that they need. I keep them outside in a safe enclosure. Saludos, Aleida
Congrats on your new hatching! Since you keep your tortoise outside i would suggest misting the enclosure in the morning. Misting along with the heat of the day should increase humidity in the enclosure. Also, just a thought, check the humidity in the micro climate. You may be surprised how much humidity is at ground level! Thank you for watching!!!
@@Thirdcoastreptile thank you so much! Daily I do spray the enclosure with water. Lately 2 times a day. Because of the heat here, it dries up very quickly. I've put enough place for them to hide. Thanks for the informative videos! Saludos Aleida
Love Aruba for the simple fact that both Redtail boas and Redfoots can be found both invasive so if you do herp on the island no laws are broken and you can help the local torts out when the weather is not the best.
Hello, I'm sorry to bother you but I think I need some help. I have a red foot tortoise. We live in Colombia and when I take her to drink water her nose becomes super red and today she threw up. Here in mu hometown vets don't take care of the tortoises and I'm trying to see what is happening, so I was wondering if you know, I'm worried about her, I saw she has some congestion like if she had the flu or something but i don't know I'd appreciate if you could help me
Im so sorry to hear your red foot is sick. It sounds like it could be a respiratory infection. Ask local groups who they use for a reptile vet. Im certian you will need medical help with this one. Again iam so sorry you little one is sick.
How is her noise is it runny? And her breathing is it heavy? What's the temps in the enclosure and humidity level? Im doing some research to see if i can offer you some guidance but veterinary help would be best.
Hey Frank! I would suggest the biggest enclosure you can afford to buy or build. For hatchlings a 2ft x 4ft would be fine. For adults i would house up to 3 redfoots in a 10 ft x 10ft enclosure. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!!
@@Thirdcoastreptile thank you. But do know any enclosure brands that they sell or any recommendations of enclosures like a stock tank that is big enough for some adult red foot tortoises?
Anyone ever tell you, that if Ron Perlman had a grandson who kept tortoises, you'd be him? Anyway, how many years does it take for a red foot to be fully mature & fully grown? I have my 5 y/o girl Yurtle the _Technical_ Turtle & was wondering how much more growing she has left to do & if I need to worry about infertile eggs (being that she lives alone, I want to know when I need to start looking out for her immaculately conceived baby, so I may announce the coming of the Jesus of the Testudines.)
Thank you for the comments lol i hope i turn out like Ron haha. Red foot tortoises like most tortoises very in how fast they grow. Mostly due to husbandry conditions and diet. Typically 10 years is a good estimate for growth for red foots. You will encounter infertile eggs at some point. Id recommend creating a dig box or area that is deep enough and hidden so she feels comfortable to lay her eggs. If you notice her laying eggs then simply disgard them later on. If not she may just eat her own eggs! Yuck!!!! Thank you for the questions.
Hey thank you so much for the feedback. Ill will certainly reduce the amount of music in the videos. Im learning as i go, what kind of reptiles do you have or want to have?
Thank you my friend great information I appreciate it❤
Thank you for the kind words!!!
I love my redfoot!🐢
Dude has huge hands and thumbs! You should arm wrestle haha
Awesome work

@@frankfernandez7126 unfortunately no most brands cater to hatchling applications. You might want to check your local farm supply store??
