I miss Charlie Rose's smart conversations with all and sundry, and I miss Tom Ashbrook here in Boston on NPR's program On Point. Both men were victims of feminism out of control. The result has been mediocre programs hosted by women who lack qualifications and background.
I miss some of the people he would get. I thought Rose was a bad interviewer who interrupted more often than not, had an ego which was inappropriate for the job, and always came across as thinking himself more important and smarter than the people he was interviewing. After THE stories came out I would never have been able to get the image out of my mind of his inviting young interns to his mansion and then walking around with his robe opening. At least when it comes to Amanpour she's a real journalist with international credentials, and not so endlessly full of herself.
I watched the clip. I also read some of the comments. Henry Kissinger knows as much as anybody about geo-politics and history . Probably more. Kissinger has had a massive impact on American foreign policy and world history. For five decades he has been an influential statesman theorists and political consultant. Henry Kissinger knew more about the world by the time he was 30 than most people who have ever lived have ever learned in a lifetime. He is essentially a giant 98 year old Jewish-German-American Super-brain, still tickin'. I admire Kissinger. I learned about Realpolitik mainly from him. I owe him a lot but I don't really trust him. I'm all but certain that he doesn't trust me either. The comments on Kissinger was so stupid that it almost seems like parody, at best.

It is like when Russian started World War II by invading Poland as proved by the large map of Poland with Stalin's signature on it produced by the Soviets showing how Poland would be divided. It is also like the ethnic cleansing of Poland which led to the murder of 22,000 Polish leaders in the Katyn forest that was discovered by the Nazis in 1943 and investigated by the International Red Cross. For over 50 years lying Russians tried to blame the Nazis but in 2010 the Russian Duma admitted that Stalin and his government was responsible for the Katyn Forest massacre after a long investigation by the Russian state prosecutor's office.

Сергей Смирнов The huge map of Europe showing how Hitler and Stalin would divide Poland with Stalin's signature on it proves Russia and Hitler started World War II in Europe as allies. Stalin then murdered 24,000 Poles at the Katyn forest and the USSR lied about it until 1989 when they finally admitted that the Soviet Union murdered the Poles. Russians need to read what their countrymen like Solzhenitsyn (The Gulag Archipelago), Alexander Yakovlev (Century of Violence in Soviet Russia) and Roy Medvedev say about the millions of Russians and ethnic cleansing victims murdered by Stalin and his henchmen in the infamous Gulag death camps. Kissinger's knowledge about the times around the 1970's is invaluable. Yet that does not translate into understanding the world today. The problem with "living legends" is that they think that they are beyond the necessity to update their knowledge. Kissinger's assessment of present Russia is dramatically at odds with facts. And there is this underlying arrogance, that Russia as a supposedly defeated country should just be quiet. Actually Russia achieves its goals to a larger extent than the USA.

She said mosco and St Petersburg were much nicer cities than New York and Los Angeles, and in my very limited fact checking sure enough both Russian cities do seem to be nice places to live. But aren’t their living standards now at risk given Putin’s actions? Furthermore, I don’t see subjugation of Georgia and Ukraine as a positive. True they are not in NATO, but NATO doesn’t need them to survive and their geopolitical positions make them difficult to escape from Russia’s grasp
@@markalfieri2101 Positive or negative is another dimension. I was talking about reaching objectives. By the way the idea of independence does not end at the level of Ukraine and Georgia: Russians in the Ukraine want to be independent of the Ukraine, Abkhazians in Georgia want to be independent of Georgia etc. In the end there would be 50 or so countries on the territory of the former Soviet Union (instead of the 15 now). Look at what happened after Yugoslavia has disintegrated. Look how instable Bosnia still is. Re Russian standard of living - now of course the achievements of the last decades are at risk. Which brings me to the sanctions: The world had to react to Russia's aggression. But destroying Russia economically and pursuing their citizens just for being rich and close to their government (the Oligarchs) might make Russia a desolate, desperate, disintegrating country - yet with nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. Do we want to take this risk ?
@@andy99ish Your comment is quite delusional, sorry. It also shows an astounding ignorance when it comes to geopolitics. Lets take just Putin's tenure and ignore Yeltsin. Since 2000 the 3 Baltic states, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, N. Macedonia and Montenegro joined NATO; Ukraine is now well outside of the Russian sphere, kept only by military force since Russia is now hated there. You talk of Russia keeping Ukraine and Georgia out of NATO like a major accomplishment and not as what they truly are: Small "victories" (with military force; which means those countries will hate Russia for the foreseeable future) in an overall trend of diminishing influence and power. Russia's military is now being humiliated in a war in Ukraine and showing the entire world that they can barely defeat their much weaker neighbor, making any conflict with NATO (conventionally of course) a joke. As far as living standards is concerned: Russian living standards did increase somewhat from the post-Soviet collapse (hardly a high bar) thanks to increases in oil price. Russian living standards are still lower than the poorest EU countries (say, Romania) and unsustainable.

Your last point needs justification. How does Russia achieve its goals?

Your comment is quite delusional, sorry.
