    you can use a flat head screw driver and a hammer to chip out that grout. When the grout is really old and shrunken within the channel, you can pull them out in large chunks without any dust.

    This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks Gene =) I have a house that settled (beautiful old house) and instead of redoing the entire 1950s bathroom, I'm trying this. It really helped seeing you go through the entire process.

    If you would keep a little cup of water next to you and dip your finger in it it would be easier to smooth it.

    Enjoyed your video. I did this to my kitchen floor using the caulking and the renew. Now that you have had your floors for a few years, I noticed my caulking seems to hold the dirt a little more so I need to wipe out more often. Did yours do the same thing?

      It gets dirty like the original grout. Its a great option but I am tired of cleaning grout. Going to swap out with LVP sooner than later.

    I have some floor tiles (probably 8 out of 150) that are not perfectly placed and they move slightly when you step on them. Due to that, the grout cracks and breaks apart in some locations and the tile clicks when you stand on it (kind of annoying). I'm guessing this would be a great solution for me as I don't have extra tile to replace them (fixing issue underneath would break the tiles). Did this stop your tiles from moving and making a noise when you step on them?

    Sanded caulk is perfect for baseboard tile grout is not needed use Liquid Nails. Lasts forever does not stain many different colors. For all you do it yourself first it's easy to do and is easy to repair

      Thanks for the video I wish I had watched this before I took on the chore I was talking about. I am snipped all my tile and hand saw. I went to get a tile saw and it was too darn expensive I don't know why I didn't look at RUclips first and buy a Dremel tool life would have been much easier. Thanks for your Venue

      Michael, are you saying you can use liquid nails as the grout or just top of grout? Will liquid nails work as sealant on top of grout too? Sorry. Im just confused by your comment a little and need to touch up the WHITE grout in my kitchen with a darker color. Grey preferable!!

  • @Chanmantroop10
    @Chanmantroop10 2 года назад

    For larger areas like that I would've just got premixed grout to fill in the gaps. Would've taken similar time. Or just mix traditional grout. I'd use caulk for maybe pinholes or smaller areas. But as a temp fix whatever works for you

    • @DIYAroundTheHome
      @DIYAroundTheHome  2 года назад +3

      There's enough flex that normal grout wouldn't hold up. It would crack as weight is put on different parts of the tile

    • @Chanmantroop10
      @Chanmantroop10 2 года назад +1

      @@DIYAroundTheHome I may have missed it but I guess it's an issue with level or a flexing substrate?

    • @DIYAroundTheHome
      @DIYAroundTheHome  2 года назад +2

      @@Chanmantroop10 the subfloor had a crack resulting in low and high spots that kept the tile from laying flat. Over time the tile pulled from the thinset and would flex a little when stood on just right, resulting in cracking/moving grout

    • @IAmTheRealKen
      @IAmTheRealKen Год назад

      Do you also have to replace the subfloor or just reset all of the tile?

    • @DIYAroundTheHome
      @DIYAroundTheHome  Год назад

      My issue was the floor not being level (settling occured, resulting in crack in subfloor which in my case is concrete).
      To fix I'll need to remove tile, pour self leveling mix in the area, let it cure and refloor the area

  • @genecarden780

    As a professional caulker I usually hammer people for using this crap. This is the one time I say perfect temporary solution well done. Not perfect but good enough for what you are trying to accomplish

      I just posted a follow up video from 5 years after the original video here. It is holding up remarkably well. Not a perfect solution but a good band aid I would say. Going to install LVP in the next year - going to have to level the subfloor after ripping the tile out though

    • @DIYAroundTheHome

      Does the caulk lay above the height of the tile?
      I wouldn't call mine sticky but it definitely is not hard like normal grout, what I think definitely helps mine is that it is lower than the tile around it so it's not too often that something pushes hard on it

    • @DIYAroundTheHome

    • @DIYAroundTheHome

      @@DIYAroundTheHome I mean, using a sponge like how typical grout is installed. I suppose a float isn't necessarily needed since the caulk tube gets the material into the groove easily, but would it not need wiped down after to remove excess?
