      Imho, the Hour is Strange, because it’s hard to play around it.
      Wrath’s are really good, then they are in some way asymmetrical, its not a good idea to waste a turn, solving the board problem. Just to allow your opponents to rebuild first.
      For example, Creature-Wrath’s are good, when your board is not that-affected by them (if your commander is prismatic bridge, theros gods, planeswalkers etc), while your opponent board is.
      I’d personally run Hour in some heavy-Landfall list’s, simply because it doesn’t harm my mana, while destroying opponents mana rocks and dorks.
      But i don’t really see any other place to run it

      Hour of Revelation is better than a lot of the board wipes on this list... 3 mana only almost guarantees you're the first one out of the gates or you can plan ahead and respond to it to make it one sided... I think they are trolling a bit with these lists by missing cards on purpose lol.

  • @sharpie11112

    I think Verdict is underrated by you guys because, yes any spell can be countered. But specifically in EDH, board wipes are pretty much the premier target for counterspells, especially for the player in the lead. A board wipe being uncounterable comes up a lot more often because more players would want those kinds of cards countered.

    • @FlowBerni
      @FlowBerni 2 года назад

      Well a boardwipe can actually benefitor hurt more then 1 player, a targeted removal is against one player, I think that's also a reason why you don't see targeted removal get countered that often. Because not everyone cares.

    • @moonlandersgames
      @moonlandersgames 2 года назад +5

      Supreme Verdict's niche is if the deck with counterspells is somehow running away with creatures, or a control player is out to get you killed. Most of the time when a control player is at the table unless they need one of their creatures for a future combo is more then happy to let a boardwipe resolve instead of countering it.

    • @jaredwright1655

      Highly doubt the deck playing counterspells is going to have a board state thats better than someone else. Maybe Kykar (the bird that makes tokens on spell cast) would counter a board wile, but really, what other popular deck has an abundance of creatures and counterspells

      Yes, in Aristocrat style decks where you're sacrificing alot anyways. Which was their point: in decks that can take advantage of everything it offers to the fullest (like Aristocrat decks) it's probably A-S tier. But they're looking at its inclusion as a boardwipe in ANY deck that can run it, which drags it down a bit since there'll be decks that can't use it to the fullest and it becomes a high costed boardwipe, and so they gave it a B (which is still very good, I mean look at the company it's keeping there).
      And note they still rated it the best X mana cost boardwipe.

    I feel like by invitation only is one of those underrated board wipes because of the way it's interpreted. When you cast the card most people try to use that time on the stack to sacrifice their field to help their boardstate afterwards. Meathook is fine because you can tune its power down if you want to keep your stuff alive at that moment or just kill specific things like weak token spam, and even without the wipe for just two mana you are getting an enchantment that functions similarly to other two mana aristocrat pieces like Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat. Still a solid card for the mana cost if you don't care how expensive it is. I think of it less as a boardwipe centric card and more of an aristocrat piece with optional boardwipe capacity when needed or wanted. Plan to get one for my Beledros deck, it would just add to the fun (and because he can turn its power up in a pinch, so it goes well with him).

    • @stfinalwrath
      @stfinalwrath 2 года назад

      I think Meathook Massacre is honestly deserving of it's price tag, as it's just as good as toxic deluge if not better in black decks, where producing 40 black mana in a turn is pretty common at higher power level tables. And it has the aristocrat effect stapled on making it even better. If you don't have the life to pay then toxic deluge is a dead card in hand, but meathook will never be a dead card as long as one builds their deck correctly with plenty of mana efficiency. I run meathook in my Meren and every single time I've cast meathook, it's won the game. Every. Single. Time. It's such a good card. It got it's price tag not just because of standard, but because it's an incredibly powerful board wipe that sticks around and provides an extra effect. It's so good. 😆

    22:22 "But the payoff is incredible, you get an effect that there is no where else in Magic"....well as a mono Black Artifact player I feel you guys forgot to mention Vandalblast and Hurkyl's Recall. These cards are SO DEVASTATING against artifact decks that it's not even funny. And the worst part about it is that are cheap, accessible and very common cards that offer INCREDIBLE versatility for virtually no drawbacks. Imagine Ruinous Ultimatum and Cyclonic Rift but instead of costing 7 mana costed 5 and 2 respectively with only 1 peep of color each and castable as instants...plus Valdalblast has the added bonus of having the versatility to be cast as a single target removal for 1 mana aswell. I really hate the design of these cards, so unfair and unbalanced, both should be banned.

    Joe is 100% correct about Farewell being miles beyond better than Austere Command. I mean it's not even close. Besides the Exile, what makes it better is it does everything Austere Command can do, except better. Command only hits up to 2 things while Farewell hits up to 4 types and its your choice in combination what to get rid of at the time. You could hit 1 thing or 3 things, or 4 things. The versatility is way beyond better than Command.

    Winds of abandon: 4 generic and 2 white mana, exile all creatures you don't own.
    Oblivion stone: 8 mana, destroy all nonland permenants
    Perilous vault: 9 mana, exile all nonland permenants.
    Red and black have so much trouble dealing with enchantments for both Nd artifacts with black. Rackdos decks should be running these to blow up / exile them.
    Green needs effective board wipes? Oblivion stone, all is dust, ugin, and perilous vault.
    Hour of Revelation is just bananas as a panic button that resets the board. And winds of abandon is an asymmetric creature wipe that can also be used as a single target exile for just 2 mana.

    Hey, I love your channel - thanks for the awesome info! As an old 4th Edition / Ice Age player returning to the game to play with my son, it really helps to hear you two go back and forth on the relative value of the cards, the play strategies, build strategies, etc. Also the ‘nitpicking’ on every detail is purely entertaining.
    I have one suggestion that if you would consider doing it would make your channel a lot easier for us returning players to use. You make passing reference to a LOT of cards without showing them on screen, which means I need a second device always in hand to look up the cards you’re talking about. It’s funny because in this video, you actually took the time to put most of the cards on screen (at least the ones you were reviewing at that second), but throughout the video you took the cards down before you were done talking about them, so I’m having to constantly stop the video and go back a few second and pause to read (or re-read) the fine details of the card wording that you are commenting on. Would love to see you guys keep doing what you’re dining but anytime you refer to a card or a specific magic term, keep those details on screen!! Again, love what you’re doing!!

    I agree mostly with the list, but a sore-thumb mistake is definitely Austere Command. Joe is right to be high on Farewell, but it's addled his evaluation of Austere Command, which is still more or less on par with it, maybe a handful of spots lower. It should be in A tier or at least top of B tier, even if youre not in a meta that runs a ton of targets. These last two are less egregious because I get that they are meta dependent. I'm one of the people with an artifact/enchantment-heavy meta, and Cleansing Nova is definitely B tier for me. Ruinous Ultimatum has been bad every time I've drawn it becasue its uncastable if you're running a budget manabase. It would be a solid D for me.

Austere command doesn't cover indestructibility it's only versatility is that you can run Either low or high cmc primarily and white has no problem getting rid of enchantments that is a well explored versatility seen in white and green there are 5 colors 3/5 is out of luck unless ... world 🔥

    All is Dust has got to be A tier at least, maybe S. If you're judging it in the context of an overwhelmingly colorless deck, it's maybe the biggest swing in your favor out of any of these when it resolves. I don't think just because it has a narrower use case than a lot of cards makes it worse, you'd never play all is dust in a deck that can't take advantage of it so it's irrelevant that it's bad there.

    Kidding of course, but I agree with Beezy on this one. Farewell is not THAT much better than AC especially in white. Lots of decks in white care more about getting many little creatures right? what about martial coup? its a board wipe that then also generates alot of tokens but can be used for tokens without the board wipe to me its awesome boardwipe that can also be a win condition card. so i rate martial coup a tier. due to versatility.
