I worked here as a CO-I from early 1999 to August 2000 originally assigned to a housing unit (HU) on the 2300-0700 shift. There was a lot of corruption going on then with Mike Kemna (Superintendent) in charge and in October 1999 the first staff-aided escape occurred (broadcast on America's Most Wanted). Inmate and staff member were captured in December 1999 because of that broadcast. There were several times I felt uneasy working in the HU because of a corrupt female staff member (she was bringing in drugs to inmates) and when 3 of us showed video evidence to the shift captain he retaliated against 2 of us by making us strip/wax his floors in the Captain's office. Eventually the female staff member was arrested after an internal investigation. I transferred from Crossroads to WRDCC in St. Joseph after almost 2 years and worked another 4 years before leaving. The Missouri Department of Corrections is the 50th lowest paying DOC's in the nation so it's no wonder they are low staffed and no one wants to work for them.

I just did 7 yrs in modoc. The inmates are treated like shit. But its not the cop's fault. Its the administration. They are there just doing there job's. But the problem is medical, food. And a few co's are going way overboard with their control issues. The inmates get sick of watching other inmates dying unnecessarily from medical not taking inmates health seriously. And in adage I've seen inmates die from the heat. But in all its not the co's fault. It was my fault for breaking the law.

and they will blame the prisoners, while in reality it is the way they treat all prisoners with the parole board, applying unconstitutional standards against prisoners that make them serve more time then what was handed down by the sentencing court. Placing inmates in danger and not protecting them. Changing prisoners sentences without a court authority, which is a violation of several laws, policies, etc., denial of proper medical care, and prison slavery in violation of the 13th Amendment (which many will not truly understand anyway. There are so much corruption going on and have been for years, what do anyone expect?
