@robdude1969 sadly no, it's a smokecraft. But for the price, I have no complaints. I would guesstimate it's a bit heavier than yours, judging from the inner construction. The previous owner handr used it since at least 2006, so it's very dirty, but structurally sound. It's a bit late in the season for major stuff this year, but I'm looking forward to spring.
Awesome vid i had a grumman for like 35/40 that i kept in perfect condition millions of memories with it with my buddies who have passed to my children growing up in it long story short i went out of town for work and someone broke into my garage and took it that was 5 years ago and i still think about it almost daily nothing like an old canoe thanks for sharing
Oh my god. You’re breaking my heart. Maybe it’s time to find another one! Paint it up “yours” and go make some new memories!!! Good luck Tim, let me know when you are back in the paddle!
I just bought a really old and scratched Linder inkas Aluminium canoe. Looks very much like your Grumman. I'm planning to fix it up for fishing and family trips! I'm hoping it will last generations aswell. Good video!
Great video. I just started repainting a 1960 Grumman 17ft canoe I found on Craigslist. It was baby blue and got a coating of primer today. I was on the fence about using metallic paint until I watched your restoration.
soooooo...i have that same boat and would never actually think of painting it (except maybe the inside a light blue), but, dang, that boat looks sharp with the silver paint job. how dare you tempt me to do that! anywho, my kids (teenagers now) have spent their lives paddling my boat...and here in florida, we have a plastic alligator that rides up front on outings. after seeing your duck tagging along, i might get a plastic alligator head to tie up behind the boat now also.
@ I was only able to salvage 2 sections from the old ones about 8 inches long. So far I have not found a match. The company that handles the Grumman canoes now says they haven’t had them for decades. She said my Grumman 17 foot was made between 1944 and 1952. It is older than I am and still in great shape. I bought it used for $150 as a second canoe while I rebuild a 18.5 foot Lincoln canoe. It needs gunnels and no one has any longer than 16 foot.
Awesome story! I used to live in Alaska a while ago, always love the canoes. Also neat to know how Grumman made the boats. I wonder if the also made the US mail trucks.
Honestly best guide I've seen! I'm about to re do the 16ft flat back I bought from my uncle for $200.(Rated for up to a 5hp) What was the paint that you used again?
Lerch Gaming I have a 15’ flat back eagle too! You are going to love it. So stable! I put links in the video description. Good luck with your restoration!
I have a 55lb trolling motor and a 100W solar panel I hook up to the battery to make sure I can go all day. Its wonderful and I love how light these canoes are compared to fiberglass etc.
Update I was able to order 1 can of the same paint and now I can't find anymore. However 1 can was perfect to do 2 coats. It came out exactly as in your video!!! I also let it dry for 2 days between coats at 22c. Today I also went and picked up a set of oars for it as well! Only question is can you do a clear coat over this paint and if so what would you recommend? (Took a week to restore with letting paint dry)
@@robdude1969 I've let it dry for 3 days and noticed it seems to rub off a bit so im going to see if a clear coat will prevent that. I just have a spray can of gloss clear coat I might try. Did you find yours runs off at all?
Mine didn't come off thankfully!!!!! Came out beautifully!!!!. Bought it for $400 and spent a week sanding/painting. Sold for $1500 :) Was a great project to do.
Is that Foster City?! I'm looking into canoeing because I've moved to Minnesota (like a moth to a flame, I suppose). But I miss the canals of Foster City.
Not sure what you do for a living but you could have a great career as a golf commentator!! Great vid!
just got a free aluminum canoe, love the paint job on yours, I might haveta take the ww2 fighter plane theme and go with it.
Is it a Grumman? I mean, they did make warbirds!

Loved your commentary and detailed work. Great to be in the opening scene of it :) You are amazing Robert. Your works speaks to it very much. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It was funny running in to you on the big water! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I just got a serious fixer upper. This gives me a lot of confidence
Awesome!! Keep it floating! Good luck Anders - give me a shout out when it's in the water again!
this is very therapuetic to watch. I just got a grumman for a buck fifty, has a few dents
it will last generations if you give it a little love. cheers!

It just looks right in my opinion. you may want to paint the floor a different color because it's bright. have fun!
@@robdude1969 I'm going with Flat Gray for the interior.

great job!

I love it! They have radio controlled alligator heads as well. You HAVE to get one!!!
Have you located the rubber rub rail gunnel covers for the old Grumman canoes?
@@cdgarrett1 nope. Share if you do. Sounds interesting.

@ yeah, I had never seen them. I do t think mine are that old. Would be interesting to try to find when they were born though.
So, Bob Ross paints a happy little canoe…
You like the smile!

same Grumman. They made awesome airplanes too!
Realy Nice Job I Have A Old 15 Foot Aluminun Canoe That I'm Going to Fix Up But I Never Though About Using Silver &Now I Probaly Will ???
Keeping It Real - it adds a layer of protection. Be sure it’s clean before you seal it up.

Tell me about the recharge rate on that panel. Is it noticeable? It sounds great. Like why doesn’t every electric car have solar on the roof too?

I have never clear coated this paint... let us know if you do. Be sure it's going to match... some paints won't stick well on the oil base.
