When we were young, and these late 40’s early 50’s cars were our first cars, we generally just threw the oil bath air cleaner in the trunk and forgot about it , big mistake, but there weren’t likely any further rusting problems in the trunk. With time, I’ve really come to appreciate how well these air cleaners were built, heavy gauge stamped metal, nothing in the least flimsy about them.

An air filter element that contains more metal than a modern toaster oven. Old cars are amazing. Thanks for commenting.

Just the filter housing could be a weapon.

Props to you for keeping the oil bath filter. Most people don't want to get dirty so they convert them to a paper element

So theory time: there is a filter company called Wix. These old filters would wick the oil into the filter for filtering smaller particles.
    Sound plausible?

What does OSHA have to do with this? Nothing looks particularly dangerous.

An open bucket of gasoline is a bit sketchy. Have you seen the new gas cans?

@@OGGarrettsGarage OSHA only deals with employee safety. They require metal self closing cans with spark arrestor. The eagle safety can is an example and those have been in use for decades.
Let’s be honest The only reason OSHA is mentioned is for clickbait
