To be honest The writers shouldn't have broken up Lucas and Elizabeth they were made for each other it was hinted at between Elizabeth and Lucas ever since the day, the year and the month they've met it was always Lucas and Elizabeth together romantically it wasn't hinted at between Elizabeth and Nathan. Elizabeth told Nathan that she's not inlove with Nathan that she sees Jack Throton in Nathan and she'll be loving the idea of Jack Throton instead of actually loving Nathan the man himself and it wouldn't be fair for neither one of them so why would she want to go through that again with Nathan? Honestly I still don't believe that Elizabeth loves Nathan the man himself and I don't truly believe that Elizabeth doesn't see Nathan Grant as her late husband Jack Throton shadow either because of what she told him in the beginning for the record When Elizabeth was alot time with Lucas her love for him grew stronger than it did for Nathan, Nathan was Jack Throton replacement
They really messed up Elizabeth's character. It makes her look like she doesn't know what she wants. In all honesty I don't think she will end up with either of the two. She may end up a widow until she dies. She couldn't choose which one she wanted and finally chose Lucas and had eyes for him and didn't look at Nathan with googly eyes now she is doing the same to Lucas. It's like a switch turned off on Lucas and turned on to Nathan. It's crazy how that looks. It really wasn't good for her character.
They can try to justify the breakup as much as they want. But it makes no sense. Breaking up Lucas and Elizabeth was a huge mistake and it shows in season 11. It did not turn out for the better. Nathan and Elizabeth story is dull boring and lack chemistry and romance.
