- A day in the life of an alterations specialist. The bride came to me and didn't like how her reception dress was fitting. This is how I helped her.

Changing the color of the ties in the back to match her skirt was a really good choice. It helped lengthen the back line of the dress and not cut her off at the waist where the skirt started. Instead it flowed as if that was the way it should always have been. As usual very lovely work.
Love your glasses.
Agreed! That was my thought too.
You described this perfectly, I couldn't figure out how to articulate that!
She looked so pretty at her wedding!
I think the contrasting ties really brought the look together
It’s ugly as hell!😂
Yeah, it linked the top and the bottom part together 😊
It definitely looked so much better with the blue ties. It was just too much beige and a stark difference to the rest of the dress
Yes! That was an excellent choice.
Isn’t it fascinating how a single change like that can change the entire look to Brilliant
You listen to her. You heard her. In that way you where able to uplift her. Make her dreams come true
We are blessed to be able to assist others with our craft. Give others hope, uplift them.🤗💐
Love that wedding clip! Fabulous! Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to make such a critical contribution to a bride’s celebration? Such a rush. Be blessed!
PS That lip color looks gorgeous!
You are a true professional on top of all that! I enjoy your videos, keep them coming!
dress beautiful but the corset colour awful
The Nigerian stylist did a beautiful job with that custom traditional dress without seeing her in person. When it comes to traditional dresses you have to go in for 2 to 3 fittings.
The footage of her dancing at her wedding put a big smile on my face. She was glowing. Well done👏
She was busting it down!
As someone with very low self confidence, I can tell you her expression was probably of hopeless resignation. I understand the feeling, it's like how you're anticipating a miserable experience with no way to escape it, and you've already given up.
I'm glad you helped her out of it.
You are worthy and you are loved Sarah 💙💙
@@Mani-period thanks! You are too!
Self Confidence is just that self-confidence if you don’t believe in yourself of course nobody else is going to believing you I find that a lot of people that claim low self-esteem are just attention seekers they want people to feel sorry for them if you don’t like you it must be you’re a unlikable person pick yourself up off the ground and love yourself because nobody’s gonna do it for you
@@Utriedit215 first off, rude, second, use punctuation.
@@SarahAbramovait's funny how you get your confidence back real quick when it comes to grammar.
Bride was right. That contrasting tie on the corset backing really ties that part of the outfit together, no pun intended. I'm glad she got help with this dress and ended up happy.
It's actually one of the prettiest dresses 👗 we've seen in a while!! She looked just gorgeous and happy dancing!!
@AnaDiaz-wz4cf I agree. Absolutely gorgeous dress and she looked amazing in it ❤
That’s punny.
She looks perfect in this dress ! And she was right about the ribbons. They look much better in blue, it gives more unity to the dress !
Unity?
@@sherryrutledge8792 I mean, it brings the dress together, visually linking the beige top to the blue bottom, from the back of the dress.
Sorry if my vocabulary is not exact (english is not my first language)
To me it looked like she is getting treated for lumbar spondylitis.
@@redmoonvenus7327unity was a good word choice 😊
@@udhaya1srinivasan198yes, I thought it looked like a support garment before but after the alteration it looked fabulous.
I’ve had brides bring their gowns to my shop ( in their limos ) on the day of their weddings and say “Please put me in this gown for my wedding!! Nobody laces it up like you!!”
I do tend to really yank those laces tight so their figures stand out then tell them it will loosen during the night
But it is important to do it right
Bless her heart!! So glad you were able to cheer her up!!
LOOK AT THIS VIDEO! YOU MESSED UP THE LACING, WHOOPIE!
Some people don’t understand that our laughter comes from a place of dealing with excess emotions. We can be anxious, laugh, we can be stressed, we laugh, we’re happy, laughter, we had a scare, laugh it off. I even start giggling/laughing when I begin to struggle with weights at the gym! It a release of energy. Some people don’t understand it and feel mocked when we’re actually just coping with our own emotions.
oooooo i relate so much with laughing when struggling in a workout 😂 and yes, i agree. some people take things too personally, laughing is just how some of us deal with both negative and positive emotions. it's different for everyone
I have struggled with this but with crying, not laughing. Sadly, one of my daughter’s got it, too and didn’t get a well deserved raise and promotion because her boss said she was emotionally immature. She had to take information from her therapist to prove that it wasn’t something she could absolutely control and that it didn’t always indicate the typical emotion. He watched her after that, realized it didn’t impact clients or colleagues and that it was involuntary and then she got the promotion and money. She was able to relax a bit more in the new job and found some new coping skills and is great. I’m 55 and still can’t control it as well as my 30 year old daughter but I do know how to get away from people when I feel like that so I don’t inconvenience anyone or make anyone else feel uncomfortable. Sorry for the length. I’m on bed rest from surgery and I’m bored.
Also it was funny in a cute way that her hubby to be tried to help her out, but had no clue. He must be a sweet man.
Interesting, tyfs
She looks stunning, my only critic would be making the corset darker to better match her skintone (not to mention the mesh top wasn't really matching her skin tone) but with only 9 days to the wedding... I'm more than pretty sure that would be a tall order! Still stunning though!😁Other than that I feel you did exceptionally well! It's genuinely amazing how much a little change in like the color of the ribbon to tie up the corset can make!
The corset would also looked nice in blue, the same tone as the rest of the dress
@@gewurztramina Might be too much blue though, the bride seems to want the contrast (though it would be gorgeous in blue).
You all didn't see the video clip of her dancing? The dress was perfect for the occasion and her❤
It's a common pattern in Nigeria, if it matched her skin tone she would look naked.
@@miracleufodiama1453that's kind of the point to sheer fabric when used this way on a dress. Makes it look like every thing is glued or painted on.
You truly are an alteration specialist, because you are not just altering the dress, you're altering the bride - in the best kind of way (her confidence, her mood, her self-esteem). And it's clear that this holistic approach, incorporating how the bride feels as well as how she looks, is important to you - which, in turn, shows how good you are at this.
You elevate everything for people on one of the most significant and special days of their lives. That is true artistry. Long may your amazing work continue! 💖👍
I think the word you were looking for to describe your client's sadness is "defeated". The blue lacing was really nice and made the corset look more cohesive with the rest of the dress.
Wow, the blue ribbon really does change the dress and ties the top on with the skirt from the back side at least. If this dress was just custom made for her and it’s new it seems like the beading shouldn’t be coming off anytime soon 🤦♀️. But so nice to see her dancing in the dress at the reception. She clearly feels very happy and confident 😄
I was confused how it wasn't fitting 12 hours prior, up until 'my fiance helped' 😂
This is such a good example of the power of a good seamstress. Being an alteration's specialist is so much more than just being good at sewing. Reading a person's body language is so important. I had a client once step out onto the podium for her fitting and I knew something was off right away. The dress she bought was unflattering and ill fitting and as I gave her some options she was very hesitant and indecisive. I did some pinning to show her what changes could be made and she suddenly burst into tears. She apologized, and said she hated the dress and only bought it because it was the only dress in stock with a halter neckline. She said she felt rushed by her stylist and didn't feel like the dress flattered her body type at all. She said her only requirement was that it had a halter top because she liked how she looked in one. You should have seen the look on her face when I said, "You can pick just about any gown and I can put a halter on it." She asked for my advice and I her out to the sales floor to show her some dresses I felt would celebrate her body. When she came out in *the* dress I knew immediately. The difference in the way she carried herself in that dress was night and day. She was much more at ease and confident and even twirled in it. I told her, "I've always liked this one. It has pockets, you know?" "What?!" She shoved her hands into the pockets and lit up like the 4th of July. We easily switched dresses for her and completed her fitting that day. I'll never forget the experience. It was such a privilege to give her the confidence she needed to be the radiant goddess that she was.
That's an awesome story, thank you for sharing! I can imagine how good it felt to be able to help and lift her up like that ❤
Beautiful dress! But it always amazes me how one 'simple' little change takes something to a whole new level... and that was changing the lacing! Totally lifted the dress to a new level! Bravo!!
I can’t get over the impact changing the color of the ties made. I felt like the color of the back just didn’t work. I didn’t like the dress at all. Then you added the blue ties and voila, it’s beautiful. ❤
most professionals would call this appointment a waste of their time, so your take on it is so so refreshing!! you're genuinely a wonderful person and i love your videos!! thank you for being so kind
The seamstress who altered my wedding dress saved my whole wedding! You have a very important job.
For me, i would have chosen a different color for the corset back but i get that as a whole piece it's suppose to be skin toned so the beads just float over her bodice. I think it would have been even better if the corset matched the skirt or was a darker shade closer to her skintone. Otherwise, west African dress makers represent! They are famous for great textiles and quality. It's just hard to do perfect illusion looks when ordering abroad
It's possible she wasn't going for the illusion as well in order to not look like she had too much skin on display, its wouldn't be surprising considering some cultural views in the region, speaking as someone born and raised there, i wouldn't want the fabric looking like skin
I ordered my wedding dress and when it came in I was excited to try it on so much so I didn’t wait on anyone to assist me and let me tell you the dress was a mess on me. I didn’t get the beaded sheer lace on top idk how the missed it it just didn’t fit right. My mom came home and was like let me see the dress tried it on and everything was perfect almost I didn’t want the train and I still didn’t get the beaded lace a little alterations and as far as the sleeves and lace and the dress was beautiful
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I totally hear you. Sometimes we need an extra set of hands
She was so empowered when she left you. Thank you for the work you do. It gives me hope.
My mum was tailor a sower like you and she would do the same. Now she is dead and I miss her so much, but you reminded me of her. God bless you sis. Love you ❤
Oh my gosh she looked absolutely elated in that dress dancing at her reception! Great job 💙
By the way, you are gorgeous! Your skin is to die for, beautiful eyes, fantastic glasses, great hair, spot on lipstick. And those teeth, that smile! Ah yes, the dress, great story. Just the usual fairy godmother magic. The bride looked so lovely & so happy. May this union be blessed for ever & ever!
CEEEEEELEEEE!
She was totally right, the blue lacing made an amazing difference.
You seem to always be kind to your clients, in a way that doesn’t imply you “aren’t saying” judgy things but that says you are just a kind person. Everyone deserves kindness, so thank you for that.
She selected a wonderful dress. You helped her come into the dress. With your magic tweaks!!
As a novist sewer, I love your channel and how you transform heartache into happy!😊 Your hair and your lips? Chef's kiss!🤌🏽😍🥰
I can't imagine ever having her skills and creative vision. It is amazing. Good luck with your sewing. She is such an inspiration.
You have a heart of gold. 🧡 And fingers of gold, too! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Awe, you settled her down. Yes that is a woman's job to dress a bride, not the future husband. Peace, love and light sent to all. Beautiful job💚💚💚
Changing the color of the laces really did level up the look! Her fiance tried, bless him lol. I love what you said about the confidence making the difference, so true.
First of all, you are such a kind person! That poor lady went from zero to hero just by coming to you. The combination of experience and empathy is awesomely powerful!! Secondly, your work looked beautiful! I totally agree with the choice to change the corset lacing to blue; that is the kind of edit that turns pretty into va-va-Coombs❣️❣️❣️
She is indeed a kind person, very careful with her words and respectful.
I love listening to you speak about your craft; the time, energy, and emotion you invest in the clothes AND the people really shine through.
She looked stunning at her wedding! So happy and confident. You helped her have that. How wonderful.
Wow, changing the ties really transformed the dress! Stunning work!!
The aqua is my Favourite colour!!! She was so confident. Her venue was also extremely elegant.
You are a craftsman and a psychologist wrapped into one! You really do your job well
Not gonna lie... I thought the dress and bride's body looked bad in the photo, but in the video of the bride dancing, the bride and her dress both look FABULOUS
You must really work well under pressure and have some great skills! I admire you very much! I started sewing when I was in 6th grade and made my clothes and my kids clothes until they got older. I was not a great seamstress but it was wonderful to be creative and a great stress outlet as I worked in our basement…a great retreat when the parents were arguing! Ha, ha! Wonderful memories of sewing with my Mom and buying fabric! Thanks for sharing your beautiful talents! You are AMAZZING!!~
She looked absolutely gorgeous, I’m glad you were able to make her feel beautiful
I've been watching your shorts after they popped up randomly. Seriously, you're a lifesaver! Actually it's funny that everything (clothes) can look plain on a person, but when fitted correctly, they look fantastic. It's also logic, not everyone has the same body. I'm a male and 5'11. My upper body is a medium but I have longer arms so I always went to a tailor with an L size and have them shorten the hem or tighten the sides. Looks also more well made than just a cloth if you know what I mean. Keep doing the great job!
This was delightful! It doesn’t take a lot of fabric or sewing to totally reimagine a look. You rock!
What a gorgeous bride in a beautiful dress 🎉
There is something beautiful about seeing someone who found their true calling ❤❤❤ thank you for posting these videos! You are a gift to the world of 😍
Amazing how a small change like contrast blue ties can make such a difference. Took the corset back from plain to gorgeous! Beautiful dress and bride :)
My beloved passed Nan was a dress maker for years (and made Bridal & BM’s gowns) and she talk me how to buy/what fabrics etc. This takes me back to being a little girl❤️🌹👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love to see your work, it reminds me of Nan whipping up a new dress in her sewing room. Thank you🌹😘👏🏼👏🏼
The contrasting ties made a world of difference!
She was beautiful! 💃🕺
This dress is beautiful and she looks like a million bucks and I totally agree what was missing was the confidence and someone to help her in it. And the contrasting tie def made it pop. I'm so sad she was sad, but glad it got better.
love the blue. lacing. it looks fabulous. we'll done
Putting the same color ties as the bottom really made it look like it belonged together, rather than looking like two separate pieces. Great job!
The wedding video says it all! You saved the day for her. Marvelous work.
I love this story and you did a beautiful job - - not just on the dress but on the bride's confidence.
Unique dress, for sure, and you were such a great support for the bride! Amazing story❤
Unique! That’s the word for it!😂
Her energy during the wedding in that dress! She was just stunning and brought such life to that gorgeous dress!
This reminds me of my own wedding.
I ordered it it at the bridal store and I'd had several fittings. My wedding was on Sunday, and I picked the dress up Thursday afternoon.
Friday night. I was so excited, that I wanted to put it on and check it out. I went in the walk in closet so my husband wouldn't see me, and put it on by myself. It zipped up the back, and i was able to pull the zipper all the way up on .my own, no problem.
But that was when my heart sank. The bust was enormous! Handfulls of fabric just bagged off of the front of me.
I was instantly in tears. It was never like this during my fittings! How could this happen? What could I do? I did what most brides would do in this spot, and called my mom to freak out. She was great. She said to bring the dress to her house first thing Saturday and we'd see what we can figure out.
Saturday morning, I get there and put the dress on first thing. I looked at my mom to say "See?" She told me to hang on just a second and walked behind me. She said "Let's see if this helps," and calmly attached the three hook and eye closures that brought the top six inches of my dress together, just above the zipper.
Of course, it fit perfectly I felt so dumb.
So I know EXACTLY how this bride felt, LOL. Never try to put on an unfamiliar formal gown without skilled help.
You did a brilliant job with the dress! You made the bride happy and she made that dress look beautiful!
You are so talented and your caring and support of each person is amazing and enhances a bride’s experience to the ninth!
She looked pretty happy at her reception, so mission accomplished
The dress was beautiful and the bride was gorgeous! She was sure enjoying her reception!
Omg she’s so pretty in her dress! And I really love the contrasting corset ribbon. What a wonderful thing to do! 🥹🥲
I love the energy you project. You truly make people feel better about themselves ❤
For it to be have been sewn for her without them even seeing het or doing fittings is something to really be admired.
Thank you for supporting the bride, and for encouraging her to listen to her intuition! Changing the tie to the contrasting color made the whole dress come alive. It's absolutely gorgeous!!!!
To quote my daughter now you know why it’s bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding..lol
😂 for sure
She had a great eye because that change of color for the lace made it chef's kiss!❤
We share our church building with an African congregation. They often get clothes from back home and I'm so jealous of the amazing fabrics and styles.
Not only are you beyond talented, you are a kind and good person.
This happened when I was a maid of honor to my best friends wedding. I got the dress a day before the wedding and put it on with my mothers help and it doesn't fit! I rented a gown that would match the wedding theme, it was ugly and expensive but I have no choice. My friend didn't like the rented gown, I didn't like it too so my friend asked me to put on the original gown and we'll see if there's anything that we can do. Lo and behold the gown fits perfectly.
This is the video that made me subscribe to you. Wow. What a story. Thank you for uplifiting women through your work! What a gift! ❤
Yes!!! The love and authentic concern for each client! Just lovely 🩷
WOW! The blue lacing brought this dress to the next level. Incredible work!
I only see a tiny bit, but love your stories and your heart and compassion that comes through the screen. My only critique is NEVER apologize for your lip color! As a full lipped girl that wears her red as only we can, do your thing!
Watching her dance is just everything
I just found your channel recently and I just have to say: You. Are. Amazing!
Not only are you creative and Obviously deserve the title of Alteration Specialist, but it is so wonderful that you understand what it is to be a woman in society today. We see something on a model and think how gorgeous it looks and then when we don’t look like that model (who does!?!?!), we feel bad when we shouldn’t!
From all women of all shapes and sizes, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Keep being amazing! 💜
P.S. She looks fabulous!
The contrasting ties were PERFECT! They totally made the dress!
I like that you call yourself an “alteration specialist” instead of a seamstress because you ARE a specialist! ❤️ your videos!
My Grandmother was a Society tailoress who made wedding and evening dresses. She always said, the main problem is that so many women see themselves as a size 4 when they are a size 14. She would say upfront to the ladies ..... Let's make something that fits you which will always make you look good.
The alterations made this bride look great.
I love love love this story! And the wedding looks like total goals!
The change the laces made was tremendous, for me personally. She looked gorgeous in her reception video!
Wow! That blue tie really elevated the dress. I thought it was beautiful before but she looked so incredible happy and confident in it during her wedding. Fantastic job.
The love you pour into your work shines through your customers. ❤❤❤
You do good work on the clothes but most importantly on your clientele.❤
The blue ties really made the top pop. You really did a great job and made her feel wonderful. 👏👍😊
You would be such a great person to know. Not for your sewing skills, though they are extraordinary. But what a dynamic, kind, sensitive, generous presence you have on RUclips.
What a great mindset & heart you have for your clients. Your area is lucky to have you!
You did a great job. That dress was beautiful and the little alterations were on point. I'm so glad you were able to help and I agree people don't realize sometimes helping is often just boosting their confidence. That's how you know you are a great leader.
That dress was beautiful and the bride made it gorgeous! I agree with her liking a contrast to highlight her lovely back and it is obviously the perfect length for a joyful dance! Best wishes to the happy couple! Bravo to a talented and compassionate professional who also happens to know how to make everything just right! Win/Win. Well done.
You are so good at this. The change of the tie made a world of difference.
that lipstick color looks so pretty on you, you wear it so well!!
I love how you helped her to feel so happy ❤
Better that he helps now and can learn to help her in and out of her clothes in the future! May they both have a long and happy life together! ❤
Just changing the color of the ties made a huge difference. Truly a beautiful dress.
WHY would you order a dress ‘overseas’ and expect everything to go OK without you at least showing up for a fitting!!!???
LOVE IT!!!! INSPIRATION!!!! How did you started your alterations business? Keep up the good work and have a wonderful day 😊 Robin N.Otis-Clayborne
That contrasting tie was everything!!! You work miracles. 💜
You showed so much empathy and encouragement to her. You also notice her demeanor you knew something was wrong with her. You are such a blessing to your clients . Beautiful job! You saved her day, she looks so happy. ❤
This is obviously a traditional outfit but I don't understand the color choice of blue and brown.
A mess!
Aww, I think she looks like a mermaid, and it complements her lovely skin colour so well. I think I'd have chosen a gele that went better with the gown, to be honest, but she looks fantastic, IMO.
It's not supposed to be a combination of blue and brown. It's just blue in nude background.
Blue n gold, great combo. Most colors go with gold for such Nigerian outfits. Lace is supposed to be nude so not supposed to be very visible on the sleeves n other areas it is used on the dress.
Wait: the right side has 7 holes and the left side has 9??? Totally unacceptable! First of all who is so sloppy to make such a mistake while creating a dress but most importantly, who decides it’s ok to send the client a dress like that?! I’m glad you made it work but she should have gotten a full refund from the vendor. Edit: 8 not 9
The blue ties pulled that dress into perfection she looked amazing you did a great job
Those ties were so important to making this dress work to turn her into the dancing, joyous bride!
