Thank you for the video. I just did this without lowering the subframe yesterday with YOUR help. I will suggest anyone viewing this that once you have the dpf loose and upside-down, take the pursuation tool (hammer, sledge, etc.) and carefully tap the heat shield upwards closer to the car. That gave me the clearance I needed to remove the dpf. This was much easier than I ever expected it to be.
Thanks for watching. Once tuned they are like totally different cars. Mine is straight piped not sure if you got to thoes videos yet, but if not check them out makes the car sound good and not too loud in the cab.
It's a very helpful video!! I wish you had posted this last year hahaha I did exactly the same on my Passat TDI 2008 due DPF being blocked but I just drilled the filter and installed it back. I tell you that wasn't an easy job but I made It lol. Did you have to remap the ECU to stop the warning light up on the dashboard?
I have to do this on a VW Sharan later this week, different vehicle but DPF and catalyst are the same part numbers as Passat, Tdi, mine has adblue also, everything in my vehicle looks the same as yours. I will attempt this on ramps, without a lift too. On mine the flexible has broken so I have to remove and replace DPF. Your video jumped a bit and I cant work out if you removed the driveshaft or just the cover. So can this be done with wheel and driveshaft in place. Thanks in advance.
I removed the cover out of the vehicle, as for the drive shaft I didn't remove it from the car I just unbolted it from the engine to drop it out of the way. If I was to do it over I woukd cut the bracket that holds the dpf to the engine completely off. I am positive it would create more room to manover it it out of the car. It's not really a hard job just time consuming. Good luck with it and report back how it went. Thanks for watching.
I'm confident I can do this, although I'm an aircraft structures mechanic & don't hardly ever work on cars. I'm see-sawing between removing DPF & EGR, or not. Or maybe just the DPF. Or cleaning it instead of removing. There seems about 50/50 people saying "don't" & "do.". Biggest con I've heard says engine will run hotter because exhaust gas cools temps in cylinder. Some say engine will run badly if this is done, of course I know I'll need a tune, but I don't want an overheating engine. Also heard engine life will decrease but I probably won't have this Golf long enough to outlast the diesel engine! Will I have to remove the driveshaft on my Golf? Damn! I have a 2012 Golf TDI, check engine light on for almost a year now but around time engine light came on my MPG went from 47 to 33 MPG!!! I also want to clean injectors & intake manifold. I sure want those MPGs back, and the few extra HP I've heard I'll get would be nice, too. My Golf is already quick (not fast) & a little more quick would be fun. I'm going on a 2,500-3,000 mile trip late August in this car so want to get this done before then for the possible MPG increase. Thanks for the video!
Hey how reliable is the 2.0 tdi b7 Passat? Looking to pick one up and I need your help, what are the common issues and things I should look out for before buying? Would really appreciate the help! You earned a subscriber today, great video!! 👍.
Depends what Contrry you live in. I live In Canada! We don't Get the Cool Passats like they do in Europe and other countries. Fuel Filters and oil Changes are the key.
I have a 2013, if you want good gas mileage. Get one, they get amazing gas mileage. Also, delete the emissions on it. It is an expensive process but from what I've heard, it's worth it. Another thing. Working on these are a huge pain. It's a German car, they kinda suck to work on. Mine is a huge pain, there's plastic everywhere, I don't know how long they're supposed to last, but mine is at 92k miles and is in limp mode.........
@@doserdiesel I had a tune done and didn't disconnect the connectors for the DEF system. I have a check engine light, DPF light and a blinking coil light. I'm not sure which connectors to disconnect and I don't know how to disconnect them, I tried and broke the plastic clip on one of them.

I have a 2015 vw Passat tdi and I don’t wanna spend the money on the delete kit. This seems fairly simple but then again I’ve never done it. How long did it take?
If you are taking the Dpf out you will need the delete kit. It all depends if you cut the bracket off that holds it to the block it shouldn't take long. If you go that route it makes alot more room to wiggle it out. I didn't cut mine off so it took more time to get it out. I would say a good 2hrs maybe a bit more if you don't have all the tools.
