The movie was finished years ago but Netflix shelved it I believe. Then Peele insisted that this movie deserves to be seen in the theatres and pushed for a theatre release and thats how he's become the producer.
That's odd, Netflix puts out so much shit, I wonder why they shelved this.
@@fakudan Netflix makes L decisions all the time so whatever
Netflix didnt shelve it they were going to release on the platform but then Peele watched it and thought it deserved a big theatrical release so his company bought it from netflix.
@@kitsomnothis sounds more like what’s the actual case. i was like no way they shelved this.
@@kitsomno The film was done 3 years ago. Keeping a film unreleased for 3 years is whats generally called as shelfing it. They were not going to release it lmao, it was a political reason from the sounds of it.
This film isn’t referencing Journey to the West but the Hindu deity Hanuman which was the inspiration for the character of Sun Wukong.
Wukong itself is an inspiration from Hanuman.
Eric had Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, and Green Knight to chose from when recognising Dev Patel... and my man went with The Last Airbender 😅
Lmao
I don’t think Dev was in Life of Pi
Yeah no dev wasn’t in life of pi, but I do get it
Life of Pi was Suraj Sharma
Yeah he picked a fictional film that doesn't exist.
The monkey character is from Hinduism, it’s Hanuman, who is a god of strength and courage (among other things). His myth and the Sun Wukong myth might have originated from the same idea, but Hanuman is more appropriate for the Indian setting 🙂
This.
i didnt expect to see pixlriffs here
Quite a few Chinese myths were adapted from Southeast Asia so that checks out
@itoo4884 - well not only that, the whole premise of Journey to the West is an allegory from Buddhism being brought from Ancient China to Ancient India, so the idea that both cultures would have a significant mythic monkey is a no-brainer.
The crossover you never expected.
Pix why don't you try out a little more of reaction content other than Minecraft Live.
The director Dev Patel (also the star) has been trained in martial arts for YEARS, and had been trying and trying to be a lead in a big action role. When nothing popped up, he said fuck it, I’ll do it myself and made it himself. On top of the whole Netflix angle, this jumped to my most anticipated of this year
This is Dev Patel debut as a director!
Happy seeing Rick reacting with the crew again.
what happened?
@cheezusfries3.010 he and the guys have talked about it on stream before. Rick suffers from debilatating levels of depression and anxiety, and he needed a break from reactions to get in a safer head space.
Seeing the 4 guys together makes me happy!
PLEASEEE put some respect on Dev. Hes so much more than "Prince Zuko" lmfao. Slumdog, Chappie, The Green Knight, Lion w Nicole Kidman. And not only is he acting, and writing, but this bad ass action film is going to be his directorial debut! Dev has combat training he wanted to show off for years now, but Hollywood dont wanna let a brown man lead a film like this, so he said "fuck it ill write the damn thing myself ANDD cast my self as the fuckin' lead". Peele saw the film and said "this NEEDS to be seen by audiences" and co signed tf out of it and gave it the buzz it deserves.
It's like an Indian version of John Wick but I can't wait for it and Dev Patel is such a GREAT actor!!!
Dev Patel x Jordan Peele is an insanely fun combo
Dev Patel finished making this movie in 2021 and Netflix bought the distribution rights. Jordan Peele saw the film and somehow got the rights to it. Now it's coming to theaters.
"Somehow" was a 30 mill purchase.
Prince Zuko?? Jesus wept. All of his phenomenal work and that's what you remember him for lol
Dev Patel is mostly known for dramatic roles like Slumdog Millionaire and Lion, and while I doubt he won't be acting his ass off like he usually does, it seems he was itching for an excuse to use that Tae Kwon Do black belt of his. Said alright, if you won't give me an action movie, I'll make me an action movie.
Jordan Peele had nothing to do with the making of the movie, but he saw it was going to go straight to streaming like so many amazing movies do these days and decided it needed better. So he bought it for about 30 mill from Netflix so it could actually get a theatrical release, which it looks like it deserves.
The Hanuman myth is older than Son Wukong but they're related, like much of Chinese culture from Zen Buddhism to Gung-Fu, Journey to the West has its roots in India.
think twice before refrencing anything about Indian culture as myth no it is not we believe it is our history and have proofs but your harvard folks are too woke to understand view point of others.
@@ArpitSgh36 myth doesn't change because it's believed.
Hollywood: Indian you say? quick pull out that 1 panjabi mc song for the trailer
But its too good tho
I actually liked how they edited it in the trailer, but I was dying laughing as soon as I heard the beginning part.
Hey but you can't deny the editor did his thang on this one.
Lol it is a little stereo typical
Punjabi songs are in Bollywood as well.
Dev Patel wrote and directed this; he is of Indian descent, but he is British.
0:34 Blud definitely threw hands afterwards
I’ve been waiting for this reaction since the trailer dropped!!!
I've been working on this film for the last year and a half, I'm super glad to see people excited to see it finally
Hubby and I just watched this today, and it was GREAT!!! If y'all don't see it in theaters, I do hope you decide to do a reaction here on the channel. Either way, bravo to Mr. Patel-an A+ directorial debut! 🐒
i have been asking for this for 30 years 😩
seriously though, ty!
Seems fun to be honest 💯🔥.
Would love to see Dev in more action pack movies
Dev Patel is British. Regardless, around 10% of the Indian population speaks English, that might not seem like a lot, but it's around 130 million people, so especially when it comes to films aimed to be international it is not at all surprising it would be in English. I feel like you are either forgetting or are blissfully unaware of the massive British colonization of the subcontinent
Fun fact: the song heard predominantly in the trailer is Panjabi MC's 'Mundian To Bach Ke' (or, specifically, the Jay Z-featuring version 'Beware'), uses drum and bassline from Busta Rhymes' Fire It Up, (which is in turn based on the theme from Knight Rider,) is one of the most well known pieces of bhangra music outside of India and the subcontinent, and was recorded in, survey says... Birmingham, UK, my hometown and home to the third largest population of Indians in Britain. Which doesn't sound like much, but when you're also second largest city and the biggest is London, you take what you get really. 😋
It looks amazing, and it could be great. One of the best trailers I've seen.
Dev Patel is awesome. Love him...can't wait to see the movie!
This looks very interesting. It’s definitely like an Indian version of John Wick!
This isn't an indian movie
i’m soooo excited for this film
Lol seems like the crew doesn't realize who Dev Patel is. They note that its being directed by Dev Patel with no real reaction, and then moments later Eric goes "Prince Zuko!" when he finally recognizes Patel's face in the lead role haha. I guess not everybody has been following his career as closely as I have. The Green Knight is awesome.
Yay, someone else who liked the Green Knight! Definitely a weird film but I loved the visuals and that final scene between Gawain and the Green Knight
I don't think you need to be following his career closely to know who he is, most regular movie goers should know. Unfortunately the guys seem to be in the "Nerd Bubble" when it comes to media so they haven't watched the likes of Slumdog Millionaire or Lion.
Yeah I haven’t been seen many of Devs works only Slumdog, life of pi and Skins I believe
these guys ARENT gonna like green knight for sure
@@mum-your Yeah its a little bit too vague for them haha, but its still one of my favorite films of the past 5 years.
Red Band trailer goes hard 🔥
Happy to see you again Rick =)
Excellent film😊
Forgot that I first saw Dev Patel in Skins. I'm excited for this. Hoping it shows in my country.
Our Anwar's done well for himself!!!!
Dev Patel and Jordan Peele working together? Sign me up
John wick gunna influence alotta movies to come
Highly recommend watching Hotel Mumbai or Lion to see Dev at his best.
They have no idea who Dev Patel is, do they. Lol.
Not every action movie is John Wick, my dudes.
This reminds me of the grand tales of revenge from 90s South India. The heroes endure hell due to powerful corrupt, but seek revenge for their loved ones after training. There may or may not be divine bleasings involved, but whatever blessing they get is not noticeable. Here it seems Lord Hanuman may be the patron.
I think we have a resurgence of those tales recently, the latest was a Kannada film called Toby. But Toby is closer to John Wick.
This looks interesting especially this seems to maybe take inspiration on Hanuman mythology
Loving the visuals! In general film reminds me of John Wick, The Raid and even Old Boy. Hope the movie is as good as the trailer
When Slumdog Millionaire meets John Wick like Movie 😂
Its not journey to the west. Its centered around the story of hanuman
He's great in Lion.
5:00 Yes, they are made so you dont jump through them :D
I believe the monkey is supposed to be Hanuman, the Hindu God of Wisdom, Strength, and Self-Discipline
Are you guys planning to watch Society of the Snow? So many reaction channels are doing it and getting so many views I don’t understand why big channels like this one is not doing it (maybe they’re just not interested in watching something with subtitles?) anyways, I recommend it. 💕
Groovy
I think Dev Patel directed this movie. He’s the actor from slumdog millionaire.
Should have watch the uncensored trailer
Another one to check out the trailer for is Boy Kills World... and I guess Borderlands if anyone played those
I'd watch it in the cinema. You guys can react to White Tiger in the meantime. It's not action, but it has great story and acting.
They can release this movie as Vanar in India.
There was a small part of me thinking that this was going to be an Austin Powers spin-off.
Have you guys seen Slumdog Millionaires or Life of Pie? Dev Patel was incredible in those movies.
Not life of Pi 😂
@@NationalHooeyLeague Ohh bad you're right, I was thinking of Lion not life of pie😁
Do a full movie reaction
Waiting for your review/ reaction to Salaar...
Please review in the original language, Telugu
Dev Patel is great they should watch The Green Knight
Thank you for Inviting Ranveer Kapoor on the channel....amazing to see him
Oh, if they’re not familiar with Dev then they should watch The Green Knight if they haven’t seen Slumdog Millionaire
Indian John Wick
you guys need to do a reaction to "animal" bollywood movie its a bit longer than usual but you guys i think are gonna love it
Blind Wave will get hyped for this but refuse to watch Raid 2 😮💨
I love how Journey to the West seems to be used allegorically in this.
Well yes, but no. It's based on Hanuman which is an Indian monkey god. Hanuman predates Sun Wukong and Wukong was inspired by Hanuman.
It's actually alluding to Hanuman, the Indian monkey deity from Hinduism. He's actually older than Son Wukong from Journey to the West. There are many similarities since both are from the same continent which is common for mythologies.
Jordan Peele tries to get this film in theatres.
Calvin: I definitely want to do a reaction to this.
😂
Just joking, you guys can watch it however, whenever and wherever you want.
You guys should also check out 'The Green Knight' with Dev Patel.
Written directed and starring Dev Patel. The scrawny British Asian kid from Skins has certainly grown up!
MEGA HIT
There are a gazillion (hypothetically) Indian movies that are in English?
Could you react to the new Godzilla x Kong trailer?
react to Bahubali movies 1&2. its great and you guys will love it.
React to Lion. Same actor dev patel
Prince Zuko? Okay you guys need to watch The Green Knight and erase the way you know him.
Instead of ending with discussions full of easily answerable questions asked into a void as you all can't answer them, why not instruct one of your staff to be off camera with the pertinent info who you can get answers from and he/she will share interesting info? Is it an American production? He/she answers. Is this Dev's directorial debut? What role does Jordan Peele have as producer? Etc.
If you don't have any on location staff to do that then task them with doing the research, typing it up and sending y'all the document to read after the reaction is over. Obviously your employee would know to avoid giving spoilers but give y'all all the pertinent info to answer your Qs.
Just a thought that imo would improve reactions for trailers.
Watch Animal trailer brother 👍🏻👍🏻
You know Dev Patel from the Avatar movie????? man, you guys need to watch more movies that aren't blockbusters.
Do Indian movie
1.Bahubali the beginning trailer reaction
2. KGF chapter 2 teaser and trailer reaction
i dont why when a movie about revenge they always called it john wick flavour. before john wick there a lot of movie about revenge
React to gami
How have they watched this trailer and not the Badbatch one
they said on Twitter they want to go into Bad Batch blind, the trailer shows quite a lot
Please react to "The avengers Earth's mightiest heroes" cartoon tv series. I promise you will rank it so highly its one of the best animated series ive ever seen.
Feels like an Indian movie
Since Blindwave is interested in reacting to Bollywood Movies i hope we can see some reactions soon one day! Hope they also watch some action SRK movies, like Jawan or Don🔥🔥
This is not a Bollywood movie. It's set in India. 🙄🙄
@@KayaSingh-qx2jqif you actually read my comment, you would know I didn’t call this movie a Bollywood movie. At 5:54 they’re talking about getting back into Bollywood reactions so I recommended some to watch
Some of them enjoyed RRR, that wasn't a bollywood movie, it was tollywood. It's unfortunate that the Western world seems to believe that all indian movies are bollywood.
@@mrnavd don’t misunderstand me, I never called RRR a Bollywood movie, I know it’s a Tollywood movie. I know the differences, like I told the other person in the other comment. Calvin was talking about getting back into their Bollywood reactions, that’s literally what he said, the word Bollywood. So I just recommended a few to watch.
Guys should watch Green Knight
Second this!
Watch LEO
Love to see them react to Suicide Squad Isekai Trailer
React to kabir singh movie❤❤
It thought it would be a black starrier movie
I know people haven't watched enough movies from different places when they compare any long kitchen fight scene to John Wick and I see this very often. This all started with The Raid not John Wick, Do your homework
Reaction please on bramayugam trailer
React to some Indian movies not Bollywood Indian movies
Ah
react to Animal movie
Please react sardar uddhaam singh movir❤❤❤❤
Hey guys please reaction on bahubali 1 and 2 please it's Indian movies please 🙏
Like ben 10 😂😂
Lol Eric thinks RRR is Bollywood
Most of this trailer looks phenomenal, but then the weird comedic breaks just completely kill it.
Hope the movie isn't just a pseudo-Indian boot lick to Western audiences, given that Patel is British and Peele is American. I hope this is made in homage to the great Indian action movies of recent (especially south indian movies like rrr, salaar, kgf) and of their long history of showcasing rage, anger and action to social issues. I hope this is done tastefully, or it will just be another Western movie villifying social problems in another country, like poverty (as if it's some third world problem that the West doesn't also contend with), when those stories are best told by their own.
Since some of you liked RRR, you guys should check Salaar (on Netflix, telugu language), Leo (on Netflix, Tamil language) and kgf 1 and 2 (on Netlix, Kannada language). Try to rest down the Western framework, and go with an open mind, eg the expression of emotion through song and strength.
YES I AM FROM INDIA AND WE ALL LIVE IN SLUMS DON'T HAVE MONEY DON'T HAVE MONEY(another stereo typical movie 😉)
What you want some boring Bollywood trash ?
You know all Bollywood movie is not trash and Indian also has many other cinema like tollywood, tollywood , Kollywood ( so why not shut the f***up)
They put the racist stereotypical indian music in it.
