This is a quick behind the scenes making of video of the 90cm Ryoboku style Nature Aquarium I created for my upcoming eBook. Yes you have heard it right - I'm about to write my first book about Aquascaping. Pictures by Joern Pollex:

For the Nature Aquarium Setup we have used 90x45x45cm classic 90p sized clear glass aquarium. The Aquarium is lit by the ONF the One 3" 90cm pendant LED light and filtered by OASE Biomaster Thermo canister filter. We are using RO water that is remineralised to 5°GH and pressurised Co2 Injection from JBL with PH control to ensure stable 20-30mg/l Co2 at any time.
As for substrate Tropica Aquarium Plant Soil has been used. A total amount of 18 litres. Only regular sized Soil has been used, because the layout is finished with cosmetic sand in the foreground. ADA La Plata Sand has been used along with graded gravels to achieve a natural look. Main hardscape is made from several Manzanita branches and approximately 30kg of Mini Landscape Rocks aka Seiryu aka Ryuoh Stone. All Hardscape has been interconnected with SuperGlue and Cottonpads, check out my How 2 Video: • Glue rocks together wi...

Shouted you out on my latest vlog! Thank you for teaching me so much on aquascaping in just two weeks! I had to rehabilitate my tank! Ps - Sorry, I didn't know how to pronounce your name properly.
Using Plant labels to create planting map is a great pro tip!
did I just comment my self from the Tropica profile and now give reply to my self ...?!"?%/
That was a super fast paced vid Jurijs, I feel like I need to take a deep breath haha. Cheers for the cool content 🌱
I only had 10 minutes for filming!!
Just watching the video Juris and so far.....I'm truly amazed at the level of detail and effort you put into your video. Much appreciated! Thanks you!
thanks, editing credit goes to my Editor Logan ;)
*His biceps are bigger than the whole aquarium, wtf.*
Oh hi.. . Im from borneo indonesia.. . I took bucephalandra (just a little bit) from my back yard, b'coz borneo is main habitat of buce, is that wrong ?
Planty buce here 😘
Its very simple , but such a feast to eyes ...grate ...its looks so natural a gorgeous piece of island landscape ...what kind of rock it is
I live in Sweden and can't buy manzanita driftwood wich sucks. They create the best scapes. Where do you get yours?
Hi Juris.. I can see you had cut the trident fern...can How long does it take approximately to grow to the size at which you had trimmed the plant... I'm scared to trim the trident fern and place it like you did...your helpful thoughts please 😅
Love this scape mate, great video as usual👍
cheers buddy, thanks for watching
Always a pleasure👍
What did you use for the background? White vinyl? I used a foggy one in my most recent project, but it isnt opaque enough.
So amazing and special video....behind the camera ...u r ao nice ..keep it up...cool setup
Hello, can we see the next state of this aquarium?
George is releasing his book in a few months and you’re writing one now! Can’t wait :D
exciting times :)
Super Video mach unbedingt weiter so 👍👌🏼
Great arrangement 👌 Greetings from Ulm.👍😎👨🌾
Grüße aus Frankfurt :)
I can not plant trees, them always die and i do not know reason
Looks great. What aquarium is that and what is the background?
Love this behind the scene Stuff sooo much thanks for Sharing 😄
Proud of his work 😅😁
Earned, absolutly earned 👍👌
wow wonderful hardscape and i like very much lights !!! apreciate your all ideas jurijs !!!!
Love your work man. I will have my own aquarium some day :)
its a great hobby, you will like it!
Jurijs, is your e-book out yet? 😁 Looking to grab a copy
Love this set up!!! It’s just gorgeous!!
Thanks Fae, appreciate your feedback!
What is the distance of the lamp and tank (height)?
Where did you get manzanita wood like that?
May I ask what film you used for this background? I've been looking but I can't find anything. The frosted film is too gray for my tastes. Is this white vinyl?
this was a simple photo backdrop, I usually use frosted with a backlit for extra white
you are one of the coolest aquascapers! always a lot of tips learnt from your videos
Por que No tienes subtitulos en español?
Love your style
Scape and film lovely job 💚
That was Hard, Fast and Informative.
Love it 💕
One of the best hard scape layouts I’ve seen in my opinion Jurijs. I’m going copy this in my new ADA 60p soon . Nice video too 👌👌
Thanks John, you welcome
I am waiting to see this tank update video
Hi sir. What model of that oase filter, Biomaster 350 or 600 ? Thank you!
600thermo
Could you please post the update for this tank? I never seen someone cut off the microsorum for first setup before
Check this Playlist ruclips.net/p/PLjbie0v-Zdj_BoB7v07S9RXiY2FTECJmH within the protip I have cut off all bolbitis leafs, you can see the making of video and the 90 days Update to see Bolbitis fully recovered
Very cool, where's the update?
Nice layout and "classic" feeling! Saludos!
I liked the idea of the plant pots going in so you can imagine how it will turn out.
Short but well detailed video..looking forward for the result after few months..awesome as always!!!
thank you, lets see if I will be able to record a video update, definitely will get some nice pictures of it when its grown in
Great hardscape. Great inspitation...
Another great design and video. Keep them coming! :D
Just a note - driftwood in Japanese is 'ryūboku' (流木). Although I notice that on a number of English language sites it's written as Ryoboku.
Yes Tom you are right and surprisingly there is more web traffic for the misspelled version
I only smashing like button once juri's 😑
thank you
Nice scape, I need to get a 90c aquarium!
Hi, I have purchased the Twinstar nano sterilizer algae inhibitor, I have to set up new 90cm planted tank. How much time I should run the inhibitor daily please suggest?
It’s automatic. Turn on and forget about it
Thanks Jurijs
Already want to buy that ebook! Perfect aquarium Juris!
Thanks Renan, I hope to get it done as soon as possible :)
Wunderbares Setup. Is the Oase 250 Thermo sufficient for the 90P?
It’s what the owner of the scape had available at this time. I would reccomend the 600 version
@@JurijsJutjajevsah thx, i have a 90p here and a spare 250 Oase. So i will go with a new 600. Thx mate.
You can go with the 250 + flow pump or a skimmer. I successfully used the 250 on a 120cm island scape before. It is possible. But if you’re not on a budget, getting a bigger and stronger filter, ist never a bad idea 😁
Hi, мan, you make interesting videos, but we really ask you to add subtitles to your videos, as they do in green aqua, so that people in Europe and Russia can also watch (unfortunately, not everyone knows English)
I'm sure that this will help you get more subscribers and views
I just added Russian subtitles here ruclips.net/video/cNpfd1oQYRc/видео.html please check
is there any update videos of this scape??
I’ve got some photos from the owner
Great looking hardscape. Congratulations!
thanks Leonardo, how do you like the plant choice?
I absolutley love this scape! It is really striking and bold. I am definitely copying this scape! I need it Haha
haha thanks mate, appreciate your feedback! Send me a picture when you've made yours
@@JurijsJutjajevs I will try my best! I am still very new but this is definitely the type of scape that I want. Absolutely love your work. Very inspirational. It gives me something to aspire to
I really liked the Video! Well done, great tipps, great cut, great camera movements, plant mapping is really cool, I'm going to try this on the upcoming project! Keep on scaping and making such good videos.💚
Thank you, very happy it turned out so good - I only had 10 minutes for filming :D
@@JurijsJutjajevs Wow! That's extremly good, 10 minutes is nothing D: The dynamic camera was also very cool💪🏻
Such a beauty!
Please answer my two questions..
Where can I find manzanita wood in Europe and what do you think it's better Onf or twinstar?
Thank you
In UK Aquarium Gardens, Scaped Nature, in Hungary GreenAqua just to mention a few. Where are you from? ONF has build in controls and nice design for suspended version. Twinstar is budget friendly and looks better if attached to the rim of the aquarium.
@@JurijsJutjajevs I am from Greece and we do have lots of aquascaping shops but unfortunately none of them sell manzanita wood..
The problem with the online shops is that you cannot see and examine the wood from a first point of view:/
I think in Greece you might be able to find some nice juniper wood that is equally well suited for aquascaping
Great Job Jurijs, Looking forward to the ebook!
hey cheers guys
well, that's a coincidence I've just got my 90cm ILA tank ready for hardscaping, was looking for inspiration and tips. I want a triangle design with thick wood like Manzanita and a 'beach' (sand in the foreground). I'm thinking of splitting the hardscape so a diorama-like path is in there, creating two Islands.
I'm wondering what you think of this could it work?
hai bro
update? :D
Sehr schönes Aquarium, steht es noch und kannst uns evtl ein Update geben?
Schau bei Joern Pollex auf Instagram, dort gab es bis vor kurzem Updates von dem Aquarium. instagram.com/scapers_tale
Hey Jurijs, I have a very similar scape, I'm debating on my plants right now. Any thoughts, I'm worried it will take away from the prehistoric feel in mine, what plants are you considering?
Here's my current list:
Background:
- Rotala Vietnam H’ra
- Hygrophila polysperma ‘tiger’
- Hygrophila polysperma 'rouge'
Midground/Foreground :
- Eriocaulon King Crimson
- Staurogyne repens
- Eriocaulon Hainan Island
- Ranunculus inundatus
- Hemianthus callitrichoides var. Cuba
Do we have an update for this tank Sir?
Difficult to film because if social distancing, but you can find pictures of it on Instagram
because he is Drax
you won't be able to see him
haha 🤣 Drax moves very slowly ....
MANTAP
Great hardscape! Cant wait to see it grown out
me too, I wish I could time travel and see how it turns out!! :D
I must say I enjoyed the video very much! If this is new format when less pressure is put on the "rules" and "ratios", I'm saying stick with it! I know all this is important to professional aquascaper, but regular Jo cares more about overall feel and ideas he can get from it. Keep up great work mate! Stay safe!x
Can I just stick the nutrition capsule inside the soil without removing the transparent coating? Also a typo at 1.25, tropica has no L
Yes you can, I have actually done it that way because its quicker
@@JurijsJutjajevs will everything eventually just dissolve?
Capsules do not dissolve. The nutrients from it are decomposed and become available over time by the bacteria.
Can’t wait for it to grow out!
me too!! and I have to wait for it to finalise the ebook..
Beautiful scape and I like the presentation of it. I have been looking for this white milky backgroundposter for a longtime. Can you please tell me which one you are using in your video?
The footage of bucephalandra in nature, remind me about rimba borneo youtube channel. Take a look of his channel. He explore it for you
💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Dude. Those cotton pads belong to my freaking wife :D I'd be in big trouble if I touch them
Curious to see the aquarium matured, I think it is gonna look fantastic! What are you suggesting as fertilizer for the client? Thanks
hey @Jurijs, have you ever used ikea furniture as an aquarium stand?
Wow!!! Thank you so much for sharing your build with us!! I love this, such a beautiful flow to it. I definitely want to check out your ebook. Have you made or are you planning to make a hardcover book with some of your amazing builds? I promise I won't make this comment as long. I commented enough in the last video to last a lifetime 🤣🤣😂 😂♥️
No plans for hardcover yet. Maybe Softcover via selfpublishing on Amazon ...
Good luck
Looks ace! How do you gravel vac that though? 😂
I never Vac my gravel
@@JurijsJutjajevs in that case how do you keep it clean? Good filter, algae eater and water replacements? Genuinely curios as I'm setting up a tank next week and would love an intricate design, however, the topic of cleaning keeps coming up
Really nice work! :) So nature! :)
nice video. Quick question. Why using tropica capsules if there is tropica plant growth substrate that can go bellow the tropica aquarium soil?
there is no need to add the growth substrate below the soil. The capsules are a quick and easy way to boost the soil and also to add new nutrients along the way. But yeah, if you want you can combine both products, but make sure all growth substrate is covered and is not exposed to water
Any up dates on that tank bro
Lots of updates on my Instagram
I’ve aquascaped for a while now. My ?, do you find by supergluing the items, makes cleaning time hard? I am about to begin another tank and I dealt with string algae in the past. This new tank may require the use of glue...or I may need to rethink my design. The string algae was pain 😬
I think its the opposite, Glued hardscape always stays in place and doesn't move even if you use a brush for cleaning
What kind of stone is it ❓
Mini landscape
Great video Jurijs.... could you share what tank did you use and what is the white background?
Tank info in the description, white background is some sort of foam board for DIY, it glows because the tank is lit from above and from the sides for the picture
Good to know you're going to publish an Aquascaping Book.
Can't wait to get your's and George's books to enjoy and share with family and friends! Paying it forward.
Congrats on yet another beautifull creation.
Love your "making-off" videos, my favorite ones, and very helpful pro-tips like the capsules, and that Bolbitis' placement and planting blue-print (GENIOUS!) Love it
Thank you for sharing, as always.
Cheers and lots of success going your way... You deserve it all mate!
Best regards from Portugal
Thanks Luis, I like sharing everything I know - this way more people can benefit from the knowledge
Absolutely fantastic scape by the way
Hey Jurjis you mentioned you bought the drift wood from US. Could you please let me know the store name. Thanks.
I think most Aquascaping specialized shops have it. You can check AquariumDesignGroup, GreenLeafAquarium, AquaForest Aquarium, Buce Plant, GlassAqua, Brooklyn Hardscape. Just to mention a few
Wo gibts das E-Book zu kaufen?
Bald
You may consider it a nature aquarium *style* but it's nowhere near an actual nature aquarium. There are probably few that fall further from that approach to the hobby than scapers, and I'd maybe consider using a different terminology, out of respect for those guys in the opposite end of the spectrum. Best regards,
I refer to "Nature Aquarium" as the classic style of aquascaping. Similar to many works by Takashi Amano. What is your understanding of Nature Aquarium?
@@JurijsJutjajevs I realized this after I had made the comment that you were probably thinking Amano. I think though that to the majority of aquarists, a nature aquarium is an aquarium after the Walstad method, or at least something close to it. Meaning, it's a very low tech tank aiming for low to virtually no maintenance. I apologize if I came across as confrontational.
All good, thanks for clarifying. Walstad method seems popular and well known in the States. In Europe and rest of the world, only very few people know about it, and Nature Aquarium is mainly associated with the works of Takashi Amano. Ie Nature Aquarium World Books, Nature Aquarium Gallery in Japan, Nature Aquarium Party for the IAPLC contest all the way up to ADA Nature Aquarium products, which couldn’t be more different from Waldstads minimalist low tech and no maintenance approach. 😉 👋
@@JurijsJutjajevs I actually have the "Amano Nature Aquarium complete works" book in my bookshelves, so yeah :p My mind wasn't running at the highest clock speed there. I've just been engrossed in the other definition lately, so that's where it went when I saw the title (which was pretty dumb considering that this is a scaper channel).
I think though that in hindsight, Amano should maybe have called it something else as he's only really thinking about visual representation, while an aquarium is actually a whole ecosystem. So it is kind of misleading and paradoxical, you must admit. Thanks for the discourse.
eish.. you trimmed that fern hard!!!! wow.. I am not sure I would have been this brave!!!
cheers Luis, its years of experience. I started doing this almost 10 years ago when I got my first Needle Leaf Fern from Edis via UKAPS. Once a year I trimmed down all leafs on it
Hi there how are you doing
I just love your work
a beautiful scenery of scape and the
Dept is soo good you just nailed it 👍 good luck juri_.... have a great day
thank you, have great day too
Great looking scape my boy
OMG! It also took my breath away! You've done it again. Your scape is so beautiful. I love it! ❤️
Cheers!
Thanks Lise 👋
Great content again! I am very thankful to have scapers like yourself on RUclips to help with my pursuit of this hobby... although it is small here in the US, hopefully it will grow.
Its growing and everyone can contribute to it
There is always something to be learned watching your videos. The cotton pads are a great idea! Many here use cigarette filters. For nonsmokers that translates into getting smoker friends to supply one’s aquascaping habit.
The coloured circles to describe plant placement were great. For us visual learners that helps.
Thank your client for the photographs and letting us see the process.
Looking forward to your book,
Jim
Thanks Jim. I now always use the cotton pads - more convenient than filters and easier to use
What wood is that and where do you get it ?
Manzanita. Imported from US. I can sell if you are from Europe. DM me on insta

I had to catch my train, the client has filled it up himself ;)
