Some of these artists include the late, great Betty Carter, Joe Henderson, Charles Lloyd, Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, McCoy Tyner, Michael Brecker, John Patitucci and Zakir Hussain. The New York Times printed an article featuring Eric Harland stating that "he is ...setting the rhythm of jazz's future."‰ Eric has also been featured in the Sept. 2002 issue of Modern Drummer. Eric would also love to give thanks to God for his nurturing and understanding that keeps him inspired in every moment. This is one of those videos that makes me cringe at my cymbals. I hope that one day I can have even ONE cymbal that sounds as beautiful as any of these. Lovely wisdom here too!

In a way it's bold of him to make this simple statement. I find it's easy to get caught up in feeling like I've always got to be doing something. I've very much a learning student in jazz, but if I've learned anything it's that drummers are there drive, bass players are there to help drive with me and be a point of reference to the structure and where the progression is. Staying out of the way, especially when players are soloing, marking every 4 or 8 measures to help people know where they are is often the best thing we can do.

New favorite drummer! I just started playing and I don't want to sound JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE, so this is great advice. Great to know how and when to just keep the beat and when to deviate a bit. Plus, what a great voice - that's a gift from God. I've watched a bunch of other drum lessons this morning and they all look like robots next to Eric.

Now thts creative I like the slow feel he has while he's playing and talking. I play metal but I love the slow jazz feel u can nvr go wrong with it. Not to slow but not to fast

22" Medium Thin Low, though they're probably making them slightly different since you asked (six years ago). Plus, he probably went into the Zildjian vault and picked out the only one that sounded like that. Damn it. For us, it's the luck of the draw. But it's like everything else--he earned it.
