The Magnificent Century takes leave with a breathtaking final episode. Suleiman gets plunged into darkness after Bayezid died and he gets even sicker. Selim tries to releive his pain falling back upon alcohol. Defne fights with all her strength to be able to protect her son. She understands there's no way out while she sees Nurbanu in front of her. The mother and her son walk towards the death holding onto each other. Mihrimah gets Nurbanu in a big trouble flaming with vengeance. Gülfem tries to kill Suleiman considering he is the responsible of everything has happened. However, the night ends with a dark secret. After the agony, Selim comes in the capital as the only heir to the throne. Mihrimah severs all ties with Selim since she sees him as a fratricide. Suleiman loses his strenght day by day and gets furious when he hears what his people talk about him.
And Suleiman the Magnificent goes for his last journey in a blaze of glory. An era ends while Suleiman the Sultan of the world gasps his life out!
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Let’s take a moment and appreciate the talented makeup artists who managed to change Halit Ergenç-Sultan Suleiman, who was 40-44 years old, this much during 4 years of shooting. Three different periods of Suleiman: 0:58, 1:05, 5:22! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Selim and his alcohol issues are why Sulieman closed down the wine. He doesn’t want Prince Murad to have drinking issues like his father. Selim was always jealous of Bayezid. And then Selim killed his own brother and his nephews.
Hurrem and Suleiman memory together 0:52 made me cry. Suleiman and the Palace are nothing without her. 🥺
Suleiman had lost all friends with which he could share his pain…this was his real pain killing him deep inside

I feel so bad for Selim here. He's telling Murad the absolute truth: he sold his soul to keep his son alive, because if he had not fought with everything he had then he would've been dead alongside him, as Bayezid and Mustafa's sons were, and Murad throws it back in his face.
Saying that Selim did everything in pursuit of power is so wild to me because we see again and again that it is the knowledge that his son and Nurbanu would go down with him should he fail that keeps him going and drives him to resort to such extreme lengths.
Plus, as others here have pointed out, Selim was *not* a bad sultan. He did not reign for as long as his father, but for the years he did reign the empire didn't go into decline in the slightest. It was in fact during *Murad's* much longer and more unstable reign that things began to go downhill. I absolutely agree that this is probably down to Selim being surrounded by good people more than anything, but the fact remains.
That anyone genuinely thinks Suleiman or Murad have the right to look down on Selim is mindblowing to me. They are both significantly worse men than he ever was.

He was, as Hurrem said. He had no ambition to rule the Throne province.
It was there that he was pushed to do it. It was there where he realised the risk to his life and the life of his family. It was Nurbanu who lost everything that fought to not lose everything again and showed him his fate.
He was truly annoying to Bayezid but only out of fear that he wasn't power hungry enough to compete.
They didn't realishe knew people. He knew how to manage things. He had to. He won that throne rightfully.
I don't think Suleyman was disappointed in him surviving
He was disappointed in his lack drive and the reminder he was. That he l, Suleyman was loke his own father and he raised someone like him.
Selim thought that by putting ONLY Murad in a Province that the rest of his sons would be safe but that's not what happened. Murad knew the risk of rebellion and ended their lives. 😬

This hits difference when you are a history lover and can appreciate the facts as well as the embellishments for drama's sake. I am a history lover. Heck, I write Historical Black history and am do very well with it. So, knowing the history of these rulers allows me to appreciate this series more. I grit my teeth a bit knowing that Hatice didn't really marry Ibrahim etc, but if they hadn't changed some facts for drama's sake, we wouldn't be adding a bit of Vodka to our Sherbet and throwing popcorn as we yelled at these amazing characters on this emotional roller coaster of a ride. Bravo. I am working on making my books into series now and pray I do them as much justice as this series has been done.- Author ASEERA

Was Sulieman ever happy with any of his son? He killed two of his sons and two died due to their illnesses. Selim is the only heir he have, and yet he still doesn't like it. You had 5 sons from choose from. How could you not choose wisely?

Bazied was too hotheaded and his lack of thinking before acting made Sulieman believe he would uprise against him. Selim only lived as long as he did because Sulieman didn’t see him as a threat and neither did anyone else but Bazeid

yeah lol he did everything his father did but worse. Only difference is Selim had Sokollu to do everything for him, whereas Murad had no one truly capable, and had to go through multiple Grand Viziers in a span of a few years. That made his Empire more unstable than it already was, and the campaigns in Persia were draining the economy significantly. Not to mention Nurbanu had much more power and influence than she did with Selim, as she was now Valide Sultan

Selim was a fair bit smarter than Murad and Mehmed.
He didn't go out on campaigns for pragmatic reasons contrary to popular belief. He spent his time on mostly (boring) administrative issues while Murad basically didn't do much of anything except change Viziers.

Mustafa was nice, talented and worthy of becoming a sultan but sometimes he would forget that he us not the sultan yet and disobeys Suleiman not once not twice but multiple times. His end was also because of the over love of his fans and his huge fanbase which made Suleiman feel threatened.
Bayezid was a talented warrior but he was emotional, short tempered, impatient, disobedient and many other skills hugely lacked in him stopping him from becoming a worthy prince.
Cihangir was intelligent, the only thing stopping him was his hunchback but he was very intelligent, obedient and wise and so did Mehmet. In this and show and in real life too, Suleiman always liked Mehmet of all his sons, as he was the wisest, obedient, talented a prince truly worthy of the throne. Too sad, he was ill fated.
Mustafa wasn't able to identify the biggest threat to his own safety. He courted the favoritism of the janisarries and threatened the power of the sultan by doing so.
Sultan suleiman was genuinely disappointed at selim. He wanted to say so many things but just gives a disappointing look and leaves because he can't do anything about it.
He was old, tired and none of his friends were by his side.

Though not handsome in the same style, Murad reminds me very much of Mehmet.
Murad attending the Divan and learning state affairs, and Selim is getting drunk 😂Selim would've been a perfect British or French Monarch, but he was a terrible Ottoman Sultan. Btw, Murad seemed like he didn't like his father much lol, especially with the tone in his voice towards the end. But I liked how he calls him Sultan when he isn't even the Sultan yet. It's an act of blatant treason to the current Sultan, but it's also so harmless and won't even matter as Selim would inevitably ascend the throne (unless he dies before Suleiman of course)
Selim never was a terrible Ottoman sultan. So you need to read history before stating lies. He was good, smart, peaceful and kind sultan. People loved him for this. So read history and 🤫🤫🤫

Read history before talking. Selim has never been “terrible” sultan. He was kind, intelligent, religious and did many charities in the state. He never went to war campaigns, but he managed to keep peace and stability inside the empire, which was very important. And he was loved by people for his kindness.

Despite all this not even Suleyman managed to conquer Rome and Vienna. He had great ambitions but he never extended his empire to outside of the Balkans with the exception of Buda
He probably could’ve gone for Vienna again had the Safavids not been a constant threat on his eastern border

Ibrahim was not like any other grand vizier he was his brother by covenant. The way he killed him should have been a lesson to Mustafa of the kind of man his father was.
At this point in the show I was sick of every character in the show the only people I could tolerate were Hümaşah and Murad
