    Couple suggestions here. I recommend having the wind go across the body. Some cheaper drones may overcorrect from a sudden gust of wind at takeoff which (if your back is to the wind) may cause the drone to fly into you. Another suggestion is to hold the drone above your head when launching, not at face level. As he mentioned, those props can cut. Lastly, practice this either indoors or on a calm day. Doing your first few launch/catch attempts on a breezy day might not go well.

      Craig, I agree, I am using a cheaper training drone and have issues with winds sometimes. My old DJI was stolen before I could even have a chance to use it. I am working with a training drone and just received my 107 license to gain experience prior to buying another DJI and working commercially. Yesterday's flight training was not too bad compared to previous days yet two days ago was indeed the worst experience during training that I ever had. The wind had picked up as you described and twice the drone shot up very high and seemed to struggle to keep in range. I managed to get it down safely however but it took a bit of time to do so.

      I have hand launched but only hand caught the Avata. The Avata was easier catching from the top and there's the security of knowing that the prop guards are there.

    Another useful video -- that's why I've subscribed! As someone involved in the industrial world, I would add that a pair of safety glasses (with sides) would not be a bad idea, and they're cheap.

    There is a drone opportunity from Naples to the ft. Myers area on a charter fishing boat that is being advertised. For those that do what you do, it is a great opportunity.
    I am a brand new licensed 107 pilot with very little experience in actual flight time therefore I won't work commercially until I get obviously more time in. I am getting better by the day flight by flight on my training drone therefore I do not think it will be very long. I took the 107 exam to learn more about safety and procedures for those around me and myself first before considering anything and happy that I did. But if anyone has an interest in Florida preferably south west Florida where the job opportunity is, just post below and I will get the information. In a couple months, I will experiment with launching and retrieving drones from hand but clearly not now . I enjoyed the video however.

      Ive done it a few times and obstacle avoidance stays ON. This is why it doesnt want to come down immediately because its sensing his hand below. Eventually it comes down though.

      I've always left it on. And that's why when I was catching it the first time, it hovered for a few seconds so it didn't "run" into me

      Launching from a boat is fine. Landing is the hard part because the sensors move the drone away from you.@@uavcoach

    I bought my drone 2 years ago to fly from my sailboat. It has been scary thinking about this especailly catching the drone. This will be the year. I have caught the drone while on solid ground and only cut my finger (bad) once. I am thinking of wearing a glove that I use for cutting in the kitchen. The biggest challenge I face while catching on the boat is that we will be moving somewhat and there is rigging all around. Someone else will be steering the boat and sails will be luffing. Hopefully there will be calm seas or that could be a real challenge. Any advice? Also, I have seen videos that as soon as you launch the drone it "moves" away but when in actuallity we are moving forward so I need to take that into consideration. Any advice? Thank you.

      @uavcoach  2 месяца назад

      For taking off the drone, I would try and see if there is a possibility to stop or slow down the boat, but if not try and position yourself toward the back of the boat. This will make it so that when you launch the drone it will fly out into the water and hover. From there you can start flying it toward you, even as the boat is moving. Also try and push the left stick (throttle) slightly upward when you launch (if there are ceilings in the way), so that you the drone pushes upward of the water while hovering. For catching the drone, try and have the boat be going as slow as you can get it to go and also be mindful of wind and where the drone will be leaning, etc. Hope this helps and let us know any other questions you have!

    Turning the drone up side down.... I never use that. The props stops within a second if You keep the hand steady. Using an open hand, no need to grab the drone.
