I think sometimes audiophiles forget that the purpose of a HiFi system is to enjoy music (not showcase the engineering of the equipment). I own these speakers and power them with a Parasound Halo A21 Amp. They sound great! I mostly listen to classical and rock (e.g., Pink Floyd) and they sound AWESOME. I have tried some Chesky albums and while the sound quality is crystal clear and the soundstage very lifelike, the music selection just bores me. Hearing boring music more clearly just makes the boredom all the more clear.
I wouldn't agree. It is engineering in first that allows you to experience the music, but it's a whole other earth. If you don't like it, why do you even youtube this shit? :) I don't see no harm here. :D
Thanks for sharing this video! I'm on the market for these particular speakers, well the best speakers in the $3000 range. I plan on pairing them with the Peachtree Nova300 integrated amplifier. CM9s are definitely the front runner so far!
I also have another pair of speakers and this is now my main speakers for listening music. They are magnepans 1.6. These got better clarity than b&w cm9 or any other speakers out there. I'm not saying the cm9s are bad, its just that the design is totally different than conventional speakers. I got if or $ 1,000 used. You just need a good amp to power these kind of speakers.
I use a PM6005 for my B&W 685 S2 and i feel that voices aren't very clear while the treble is very impressive and thought that my amp is not good enough, will upgrade to a more powerful one.
Stereo is a great way to watch movies if your system is good enough. with good enough imaging the center channel is a little redundant as long as the stereo mix of whatever you are watching was compiled well. 5.1 is great because it puts the dialogue right where it needs to be. but the film comes from the Left and the right channels still. with the B and Ws you should get through Inception with no problems with your stereo at high volumes. Inception is a great way to test bass slam!!!
I have same speakers with CMC2 centre and DS3 surrounds all connected to a Denon 4520CI AVR. I have come across many peoples systems using Anthem receivers. I am sorry but I am not sure why is Anthem is superior to mass market products like Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo etc. Are they Class AB that's why? I am looking to improve the sound now. Thanks for your answers.
You shouldn't have problems cranking the volume on these speakers. In fact, the louder it is, the better the sound as the tweeter/higher frequency opens up more and makes the movie more 'alive'. I didn't find any problems on the bass drivers handling big explosions on movies when its set to stereo. I normally use 5.1 though.
the mids are there the speakers are just really inefficient and need to be overmatched with more expensive amplification than the speakers to get the best out of them. once you do that they are very good imo. Ive got BW 704s and I have them matched with a bryston b100sst and I have no issues. but you could get a similar quality sound for less. If you like an engrossing midrange, check out living voice speakers, need good tubes to drive them though
I'm sure you will get fuller sound with the CM9 than with the CM8, but I also have a CM5 (not seen on the video) and I tried it as front and sound is also good if mated with a subwoofer. If you have a small room and good subwoofer to match it, CM8 will be ok. I just bought the CM9 so I don't have to think about upgrading it anymore. ;)
How did you say the amp was on multichannel? It was set to stereo, only the 2 front speakers are playing. I got an Anthem MRX 700 powering those speakers. What better amp/receiver do you want for it?
anyway I did not offend whoever owns these pieces of equipment. I just told him/her that a dedicated stereo amplifier works better. There's no reason for being angry....Anyhow bye bye...

yeah I don't agree, there is much pleasure in listening to a beautiful sound, doesn't have to be a great song. Both have their place.
sound is clear and well-balanced.
Anthem MRX700 is one of the best receivers you can get, it delivers stunning stereo sound as surround. Im gonna get it for my B&W 805D soon :)

Hook up a good earphone/headphone to your laptop and sound will be a lot better. ;)
the amp is set on stereo? Why, is that a multichannel amplifier? Get a dedicated stereo amp for these beauties if you haven't yet, dude...
SUNDS GRATE !
