Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre is thrilled to announce The Roots with special guest Macy Gray. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a Raleigh-based non-profit organization, founded by Hall of Fame and Olympic gold medal-winning coach, Kay Yow, a longtime Cary resident. The Roots were formed in 1987 by Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and have become one of the best known and respected hip-hop acts in the business. Named one of the “50 Greatest Live Acts” by Rolling Stone, The Roots became the official house band of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they currently perform every Monday-Friday.
The Roots will be joined by special guest Macy Gray. Gray is a highly commended, multi-award-winning musician, songwriter, producer and actress. She has been compared to musical icons including Billie Holliday, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner. Her eclectic approach to music and fashion makes her a talent to be revered.
The concept for the pairing of these two amazing talents comes from entertainment leaders Mammoth Live and demonstrates how music moves people. "The power of music transcends all things, including demographics - it has a direct impact on the human soul. All attendees will share in the communal celebration of Music and Life. Coming together to raise awareness for the Charity, Cancer Research and Resources available to the community is amazing, and one that I am honored to be a part of.”
-Sean Striegel, President of Mammoth Northeast
