Great video that helped me a lot. May not be the actuator in every case though. I replaced mine and worked great till I put the gate cover back on. Turns out there was too much pressure pushing on the foam bumper on the actuator itself. The cover probably bent from abuse or heavy loads against the gate. I trimmed the foam bumper down below the gate framing and it’s perfect.
Had a similar problem I just opened up the actual actuator and there was a bent spring (bottom one if you look inside) seeming to jam it up. I just removed it and it's had no problems since. Something to try first if you didn't buy the actuator yet.
It is the same fuse for the power door locks. If the power door locks are working I would take a look at the connector behind the rear bumper on the driver's side. I think that it plugs in.
If The creator here still watching, I have a truck with the opposite problem. It doesn't unlock. And you have to take out the key and unlock it manually. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the tailgate lock?
It is probably still the actuator but if you take that cover off so you can take a look when you lock and unlock it you might be able to lube it so the mechanism works easier.
@@737mechanic I dont think my 15 does because even when I use the the key to lock it the lock slot stays in the horizontal position vs yours when you hand locked went from vertical to horizontal and back to vertical for the key release
@@billdonawho4175 Actuator started in 2016. They were not offered 2014-2015. You can find the kit on Amazon called Pop & Lock and it comes with the wiring, or you can buy one of these then run your own wires. Im looking to run an OEM one if i can.
Great video, My truck just hit 67k started having tailgate actuator failure. I did all the checks in the same order as you did before I saw your video. This is 1 of 4 company trucks that have this tailgate

I have 2016 Silverado 72k miles and mine did same thing week ago.
I wonder if you would have cleaned it up and applied some wd40 or silicone spray if the old one would have worked?
I tried and the old one was too weak.
My tailgate wont unlock/open you think it might be the same part issue?
Do you know if there is a fuse for the actuator? Got a new one and still won’t budge or move so it’s not getting power

The video says 14 and above for the year I dont think my 15 locks with the remote should it?
I am not sure what year they started with factory tailgate locks but I assumed the same body style had them but maybe not.
