- Uncle Explores the making of Chacha. In a small village of Arashenda, the local people make Cha-Cha at least once a year. Cha-Cha is a Georgian Vodka, or Grappa. Made from Grape Juice or "Pomace". Pomace is stored for the winter, then taken out in the spring to be distilled. The fermented pomace is placed in a Vat and vinegar is added.
Pomace is made from left over grape residue from making wine. Chacha is made at home in a mini still. In America it would be called "Moonshine" or as "Whit Blitz" in South Africa.
Making of Cha-Cha is not illegal in Georgia and many families continue the tradition from generation to generation.
The drink is made from double distilling the fermented pomace.
The drink is usually between 45% to 60% in alcohol by volume, which makes it incredibly strong.
Vodka unlike Cha-Cha is made from grains or potatoes.
Cha-Cha can also be made from wine.
What a awesome day, learnt how they make their "mampoer", and jooooh, its tractor fuel... The guys were very hospitable and we felt very welcomed indeed. Amazing stuff.. Thanks for the invite Nigel. Was awesome boet!
Yes, it was a great day. Always a pleasure to have you Boet.
The SUPRA dinner afterwards was delicious and the ChaCha complimented the different dishes, great evening drinking till late with new friends.
Yes, it was a lovely evening.
My Georgian friend in Kyrgyzstan gave me the best ChaCha. Amazing stuff…. Benzine!
Very strong. Good to keep warm in Winter.
Wonderful video.
As an American hypothetical distiller.
🤣🤣🤣
I’m fascinated by foreign techniques and TRADITIONS.
Very cool video.
Strong 💪.👍🥃
Glad you enjoyed it!
Proud of my Georgian brothers! Thank you for great videos, Subbed!
Awesome! Thank you!
FYI home distilling for own consumption is not illegal in South Africa, but to legally home distill you must register yourself and your still with SARS as a home distiller (form DA 185).
Hi, I did not know that. Here in Georgia no registration is needed. Just set up and make.
The ABV after the second distillation is likely around 75%. It’s very difficult to get 90% from a pot still.
Hi, Yep you right. It was about 74% the second time round. But still. It packs a punch.
I would really like to learn more about the fermentation process
Really simple. After crushing the grapes to make win. The Husks are kept and allowed to ferment for a week, in a plastic container. Just before making the product, water is added.

Thank you for sharing.
Fascinating video.
I love the tradition of this spirit.👍💪🥃
That's alot of solids in the still
It is all the pulp after the wine making. They do add water, to leach out the grape juice.
Hope you enjoyed.
