good instructions, clear and easy to follow. One thing, don't use music, it really isn't needed and gets irritating especially when it's the same loop over and over. Just talk, dump the music.
Whenever driving a seal with a spring lip into a spot like that that you can't get behind, use some grease or "sil-glyd" to fill the channel that the spring rides in, to keep the spring front popping off when hammering in, could save a lot of time and headache. Awesome video, i look forward to all the upcoming content
Thanks so much for the video . My Ax5 is leaking badly , exactly the same as you described. I’m going to end up doing this job , and this video was a great help !!
You're never supposed to put RTV on seals and you're never supposed to use Vaseline, it can dry rubber out, if you need an assembly lube use white lithium grease, or assembly lube.
Watch again, especially the vaseline part. There is at least 1/2" around the shaft on all sides. The seal doesn't ride against the transmission output shaft, but on the transfer case input shaft.
You want that dust seal back in, not metal on metal. That gasket will have a thickness of 1/32-1/16” which acts like a shim. I would put it back to spec.
There is a special tool to "press" it in. I generally despise tasks that require an expensive special tool that only does the one job. However, I did use an old bearing and hammer to seat it two or three times but it wouldn't stay then either (that footage didn't make the final cut). I discovered it can be pushed in by hand, so I did. In hindsight, I think the RTV made it a bit slick.
Michael BleepinJeep haha yeah I feel you. Ive never used a legit seal installer. Usually just a socket or a piece of wood. It seems like this seal has ribs on it so it wasn't quite as tight as a interference fit like a pinion seal or axle seal. Good video!
my 98grand that seal between tcase and trans was leaking and everywhere said I would have to make my own bc it was discontinued if anyone knows where I can buy one lmk thanks y'all
Bleepin Jeep usually has good videos... This one... Left out a few things. In the future if you forget to film a step... DON'T POST THE VIDEO! I don't need to know how to do something HALF ASS!
Bro thank u I watched literally 20 seconds of your video and realized this was my exact problem so much headache saved

Happening to mine now too!
If anyone is looking for this seal but for the AW4 automatic transmission, it’s NAPA part number 19622 or jeep part number 8350 4055
Your the real mvp here thanks for the napa cross ref number had bought the wrong one twice that was for manual, what a night. Thanks again
That’s for the 4x4 model, it’s different for 4x2
That seal you used between the transmission and transfer case is for a different extension housing used for 2WD vehicles. But it won’t hurt anything.😂

Jake Ingram the factory service manual actually says to fill the groove with petroleum jelly
Gavin P. Ok did I miss something why was seal pushing back out? I never see one do that.
nice to see you back
Street N Jeep thanks!
At least the skid plate won't rust out covered in oil 😃
Thanks for making the vid
Easy to tell if it's the transmission ...like everytime I check my atf fluid its low plus I have some kinda oil leak underneath..
TJ is back! nice 😎
bleepinjeep is awsome
Well gosh, now I'm blushing.
Are there 2 seals?one on the transfer case side and one on the transmission side
You should have snuck a feeler gauge down the shaft so the seal could burp the air out, which is why it kept popping out, air pressure.

can you do a bellhousing replacement video?? Great videos thanks!!!
Why just press the seal in with your fingers and not tap it with a seal tool? Couldn’t it come loose? Thnx
I just followed your video step by step and just filled my transmission back up and it still leaks any suggestions
Wikid did you ever figure it out?
hmmmmm, fancy production, what's next, sponsorship. your content still rocks so keep at it.
I need to do mine. This video helped me a lot. Thanks !
Wait, there's two seals???
that seal is not supposed to pop out like that....in 30 years as a tech and shop owner never have i used rtv on a seal......just sayin
When are u doing more ZJ videos I got inspired and I'm making mine too but now I'm stuck
lol, we are shooting for 1 a week.
AX15 leaking on my XJ and my TC brace and trans mount are DRENCHED.
Michael, what is the part number for the gasket between the AX15/NP231? Where is it available? Thx. Tim
Is the seal not designed to be an interference fit?? As in it does not need to be "pressed" in place with a socket and hammer.

This guy sounds almost identical to Kipkay
what if there is ATF leaking everywhere would that mean it's the transfer case seal?
Yes, exactly.
my 98grand that seal between tcase and trans was leaking and everywhere said I would have to make my own bc it was discontinued if anyone knows where I can buy one lmk thanks y'all
