Visit Nijmegen in the third week of July . the 4 days marches event nearly 1.7 million people visit the city ,to watch a free music and entertainment all across the city centre over 200 stages. Many drinks and just nice people
If you're coming for the historical sightings it's not a great time to visit though, but definitely worth it if you like a good party.
I live in Nijmegen, was born and raised there, and I love it here
I'm Greek and I have a Greek friend who study in Nijmegen. After Covid-19 I will visit my friend in the most beautiful Dutch town 😊

Mty father fought for Nijmagem & Eindoven during the war - When the war finnished Dad signed up for the British control commision - I think It was his way of making amends for all the damage he'd done during the 4 year he was in the army - On his time off my dad would collect stores - tins of food stuff - Chocolate some fruit if he could get his hands on it He would drive to a family in Nijmagen who had looked after him when he got injured - I have some small fotos of him going there - Looking at this Video of yours I can see why My Dad liked to go back ti Nijmagen !

Edit lol. Nijmegen is like the guy I'll always go back to since I've been there three years in a row consecutively. Also, next time you go to NL you should visit Delft and Utrecht. I reckon you'd like Delft a lot.

Nijmegen is not the oldest city in the Netherlands , that is Maastricht in the south of the province Limburg , it is a bit older then Nijmegen ( it was called Mosa Trajectum in the Roman Empire ) !!

Nijmegen is beautiful but you should go see Utrecht (preferably in the Summer) and you'll change your mind :-) Utrecht is a secret gem according to Lonely Planet and WDR (German television).

@@JordanPike Well, that's nice. I live in Utrecht and might have some time to show you around. Utrecht is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. You were impressed by the bicycle parking in Nijmegen? Well, you'll be impressed more: Utrecht has got a brand new 3-floors bicycle parking being finished this year and by then will be the largest in the world. A part for about 6,000 bikes is already open. We also have the tallest church tower of the country, a very modern (and the busiest and largest; you Americans must like those largest things) very new and modern train station of the country. Very different canals than you know and a medieval city center that is actually older than Amsterdam's.

@@lindalemoni5428Old and quaint cities, besides Amsterdam: Utrecht, Leiden, Delft, Alkmaar, Haarlem, Deventer en Maastricht, which is really the oldest city of the Netherlands. Most Dutchies are not very fond of Amsterdam, beautiful city, but completly overcrowded by tourists. Lots of really beautiful musea though.

Nijmegen is called the "oldest" city in the Netherlands because it was the first city to acquire market rights and therefore the first recognised city. But Nijmegen is FAR from the most beautiful city in the Netherlands. Nijmegen was also bombed during WW2 and a large part of the city centre was destroyed. No offence, but how can you call Nijmegen the most beautiful city when it's the first city you visit in the Netherlands? You have nothing to compare it to yet? Cities like Amsterdam, Leiden, Utrecht, Deventer, Groningen are infinitely more beautiful than Nijmegen.
Hehe. I traveled around the country before putting this video together. But we're all entitled to our opinions, yeah? It's just my opinion. I'm looking forward to traveling around the Netherlands more and broadening my perspective of beauty in the Netherlands!! And you're dropping WW2 facts on me that I talk about in this video. @@JordanPike I think after Amsterdam, Maastricht is by far the most beautiful city in that country, but not very Dutch and overcrowded by tourists . And also, like Niels wrote, cities like Leiden or Utrecht are very nice. I also like Rotterdam for its avant-garde cultural scene.

@@PH61a Yes, correct. The historical center of Utrecht is great and not that overcrowded. Leiden is also almost "like a painting". And Delft.. At the arrival I was somewhat shocked by the train station, but then it was nice.... But I think I should visit it again at a better day.
Not only of the market rights .it was already a real city with more than 7 00 civilion inhibitors , the 2 roman legions not included. .it took Utrecht1000 years lto reach that number of inhabitants , So it's the oldest city in many way's
