Getting back in after a long hiatus.......having to re-learn the technology as i got my start in the mid 80's and ive kept ALL of my cars and tools and gear, but this is a whole new world, and with brushless and lipo battery technology, and seeing how far the range of manufacturers and chassis technology has come, ive dusted off some of the old rides, but i dont take those out in public, ive decided its easier to ''just start over'', biggest thing to get used to is the ''RTR" movement.....i'm used to building my own stuff, and it seems like nobody really stocks kits anymore...that and there arent NEARLY the number of tracks here in the chicago area like there was back in the late 80's and early 90's, this issue is hurting the hobby, most people are just ''bashing'' or going no=prep drag racing, which is fine......i love your content brother, keep it going.

Another very useful source is a good friend who has been racing for a long time. They can give you advice such as buying "pre-owned" equipment, maintaining your stuff and how to have more fun and less frustration.

Nice vid! So I am solidly in the middle of the newbie getting a start in racing experience. I agree that the SCT's are probably a bit easier at first to drive over the buggies. However with it not being as competitive it also lost popularity it seems. While a lot of guys show up at our local tracks open run time on the weekends they never show up on race night and the races are only buggies. Our track is trying to bring back SCT and ST. My start... yup... 2 wd buggy. A local racer befriended me and really took me under his wing. He actually GAVE me an older b5m roller and then help me gear it up. Now he's pissed because it handles better than his new buggy! LOL Learning skills on a 2wd buggy I think will be more beneficial to a new drivers development too. As it is harder to drive it forces you to take it easy and learn. Also went with 17.5 turn motor so its not a rocket ship. And EVERY track has stock 2wd buggy classes running on race night. I figure once I've gotten a handle on the 2wd I'll be better able to handle the 4wd buggy which seems to most often run as a mod class with more power.

Would also say sct isn't to big in lot of places. And buggy is much easier to drive(lcg from no big body, jumps better, lot bigger class so can if not racing sportsmen there a chance be a few mains and be with people more your level, also more run buggy so better chance of being able get some help on a good setup, setup can make a car very fast or slow easy to drive or just a massive struggle)
