  • In this video I do my own version of the french twist. I'm not really sure how it compares with the traditional way, but I like my own version the best, and it's very easy and great for thick-haired people.

I have three daughters with long hair, and I have been TRYING to get this for years. Thank you for your easy-to-follow instrucons. The "two finger" thing at the top of the twist is what made this invaluable!

This feels like such a stewardess hairstyle. I love it! I’ve tried to do multiple French twist videos but they never addressed long thick hair. This actually feels doable. Plus I high key love those pins.

Thank you so much! I have VERY thick long hair, and after years (and far too many RUclips tutorials) of battling the frustratingly beautiful French twist, I finally came out with one that looks nice! It will definitely still take some practice, but I'm on my way thanks to you! =)

  • @mschabilion

This was very helpful. My eleven year old daughter came to me out if the blue and asked me to french twist her hair. I had no clue how to accomplish this feat whilst looking like a hero to my kid. So, RUclips to the rescue! All the other videos we watched prior to this one required copious amounts of SEVERAL different hair products. No thank you. We were able to do it without any hair spray, only used about 5-6 bobby pins and it was super fast! Looks great too. Thank you!

Thanks for the compliment, I am glad it helped you!
A tip for longer hair would be to twist the hair a bit looser, to make room for the extra hair that will be tucked under the twist. Also, keep looping the hair up and down like the very first loop I made after the hair was twisted. Just keep making them until you have all your hair looped and twisted, and then fold and tuck the hair under the original twist. I have the feeling that made absolutely no sense lol

Now I finally know how to do it with my stupid long, thick hair! Thank you! I don't have bangs/fringe, but I managed to do basically the same thing aside from that, even with really smooth, natural, wavy, Lebanese hair.
My hair is such a pain in the butt sometimes, but it's really pretty so I like to keep it long (tail bone length), but I want to do different things with it sometimes, without damaging it.

and a split end will form at the frayed end. The protein molecules need moisture to maintain the integrity of the hair, and when this moisture is quite literally boiled out of it, the protein bonds break and the hair subsequently becomes brittle. No amount of heat protectant can prevent this. Thank you for your comment though :-)

Yes. When doing the original twist, make sure you don't twist too tightly, and don't twist all the way to the scalp. Leave room underneath the twist to tuck in the extra hair that you have. You might even want to use some nice small butterfly clips on the twist to keep the extra hair tucked in. These will give a bit more control than the large bobby pins, but also use the large bobby pins in tandem with the clips. This should work. Let me know if you have any trouble.
