This is such a nostalgic journey! Love seeing the 'Then and Now' comparisons of the filming locations from The Box of Delights. It’s amazing how the magic of the show still lingers after all these years. Stay connected, friend
Thank you for this wonderful video. I (24) watch it every year because my father introduced me to it, and it's so fully mystery and threat but such a wonderful tale.
Thank you so much for watching. We too watch it every year and it's not Christmas without it. Watching this year was extra special as we could picture so many of the filming locations in full. Cheers for watching 🍻
Don't often add comments, but what a wonderful film! Thank you so much for doing this! I watch 'Box' every Christmas and have done since the first airing in 1984 and have just introduced my 9 year old son to it - we'll see what his reaction is! I would love it to carry on and him play it to my grandchildren in 20 years time. Many thanks again - a lovely new view of a classic production.
Ah thank you. We loved making this video. Box is a tradition at our house and has been since we met. Everything crossed your son is a box'er'. Cheers 🍻

My Dad introduced me to ‘Box’ having listened to the story when it was broadcast on the radio when he was little. I really enjoyed the series and watch it or read the book at Christmas time. Sadly, my Dad passed away a few years ago but I treasure the memories of us watching the series together and singing along to the theme tune. I have 3 great nephews who are going to love ‘Box’ when they’re a bit older. Your video is amazing, seeing all the real life locations, you really put a lot of time and effort into making it. Thank you.
My dad also made sure we watched this when it came out as he loved the book. I honestly was so excited week to week to see what happened. I'm so glad that Wills loves box too, it's been a tradition since we got our house. I wish Christmas could be like that now. Thank you so much for watching and sharing such a lovely memory. 🍻

Obviously very much a labour of love for both of you 🥰. We think a lot of people will be rediscovering box of delights this Christmas because of this video, or, like us, discovering it for the first time. Ah you two are too lovely! We enjoyed making this one. The flying was bad!!! We saw how we could make it better but thought it was funnier to leave it bad and make Robin Lobb laugh as well! (Which he did!). We love the fact that you got all christmassed up to watch, that's brilliant. Cheers for watching. 🍻
Thanks for this charming video! The Box of Delights was also broadcasted on TV here in Canada in the mid 80s and my brother and I were both enchanted by it and remain so to this very day.
What an excellent and well presented presentation of these locations...and on it's 40th anniversary as well...This was...(and still is) my favourite and only childhood children's classic that made it actually "feel like christmas"...First in November 84 getting in from junior school at 8ys old...then again on the only ever re-run the following year [and never aired again on BBC1]...As I recall it actually snowed up North where I was at the time [making it feel just like it]...I miss these days. So good to see the locations are well preserved...a credit to the people that have kept/keep it that way....
Thank you so much. We loved our time in this area and would love to return in the winter for that true boxy feeling. It always feels like Christmas when it's time for box of delights. @@PostcardAndAPint You know it's ironically odd...2 days before the Blu-Ray 40th anniversary release [which I wasn't aware of] I was heading to bed late [roughly 23rd November] and Box Of Delights/Junior School Days/Christmas etc just popped into my head, and I randomly sat by my fire in the dark, and typed it in on my phone, and it literally said on Amazon [pre-order your copy before it's release on the 25th November] 2 days later...So I put my order in and excitedly went to bed...2 days later it came...I haven't started them yet, and hopefully they'll be equally as clean as the old DVD set I got years ago, [which also had 1988's The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe as part of the set...another belter 4yrs after Delights....
My favourite work of fiction. I watch the whole series in one sitting every Christmas, listen to the audiobook every December, and got to see the stage play at the RSC last Christmas.
That sounds like quite the Christmas night!!! We didn't see the RSC version last year, but we did get the the Wiltons Music Hall one a few years before. It's not Christmas without Box. Cheers for watching 🍻
Thank you for this video. It's amazing to see the locations as always wondered where it was filmed. I was 12 in 1984 and watched it when it aired. You are right about wishing the week away looking forward to the next episode. I have it on DVD and introduced my girls to it when they were little so we watched it every Christmas and they absolutely loved it. Such a magical series!

Thank you so much for posting this. I too saw the show in 1984 and it remains completely magical. So glad there are so many others out there who feel the same way. Also a mention for the wonderful music, taken from the third movement of Victor Hely-Hutchinson's 'Carol Symphony', featuring the Pro Arte Orchestra conducted by Barry Rose.
Thank you and yes, the music is magical and a massive part of our love for it. The whole of the Carol Symphony is incredible and is played every year as we open our presents. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. Cheers
Absolutely loved this, seeing the trains and stations, my Dad used to work on the railway in Leeds as a signalman before we immigrated. I remember Dr Beeching was going to shut down so many stations, not sure if that’s what Dad decided to immigrate. You did an absolutely fantastic job with recreating the series. Loved hearing the church bells that I miss so much. That you for going to so much effort to do this 😍
Thank you so much. I'm so glad that line has been preserved and some of the stations restored to their former glory. So cool that your dad worked on the railway. We've not watched the Dr Beeching series, we need to dig it out! You can't beat the sound of church bells. Cheers 🍻
@ Dad continued to work on the railways until he retired as Station Master, love Dr Beeching, it brings back so many memories and is hilarious, especially Blakey from on the buses as the signal man.
Thanks for this video. I've just sat through two hours (four episodes) of "The Box of Delights" on BBC4 and thoroughly enjoyed it! I wasn't that impressed when I first saw it in 1984, but then I was 21 and not really the target audience. Now I'm old enough to once again appreciate the inexplicably magical Xmas feeling that this programme produces. Right at the end of the last episode, I suddenly realised that the railway station that Kay walked through was in fact Arley Station, on the Severn Valley Railway line. I got a bit excited then, jumped up and started pointing at the TV, telling my young son where it was. I have fond memories of Arley, as we'd been there a few times, in happier days. I was determined to check, so a quick web search led me to your interesting RUclips programme. I was delighted to learn that the other station shown in the first episode is Bewdley. The other locations included Bewdley town itself, Bromyard, Tewkesbury, Tewkesbury Abbey, Eastnor Castle and Hereford Cathedral, and sundry country lanes in the Severn Valley that we have driven along. With the exception of Eastnor, these are all places that my late partner and I visited many times. So watching your RUclips programme added considerably to the experience of watching the Box of Delights itself for me.
Thank you so much for watching. We had so much fun making this video and that part of the country is absolutely stunning. We're so glad we brought back some happy memories for you. We were avid fans of the show in 1984, but we've found watching it this year so much more special knowing all the locations now. Thanks for watching and have a splendiferous Christmas 🍻
Very festive, all the locations probably look even more so this weekend. I remember the TV series but I couldn't have told you much about it. Well done on finding the locations.
Oh guys. That was splendiferous. My favourite one yet. I think you may have broken my box though because I just tried to go swift too but it’s not working! I had the best time at Scrobblefest yesterday Rach. Gutted you couldn’t come Wills. One day hopefully.
@ no they don’t. Someone in the Box Of Delights appreciation society made a few a few years ago. I actually bought it for my son who is also a fan but I seem to have stolen it back!
What a beautiful curated and lovingly made documentary, it must have taken such a long time to put this together, I’ve saved all the W3W and hope to visit these locations one day. Thank you 🤩
@@PostcardAndAPint Yes, I have enjoyed the 40th, even doing an overview for my christmas blog. I should join that facebook group for next years scrobblefest.
Hello, guys! I didn't know this Christmas production and you made me discover it through this beautiful creation. Truly a wonderful video, my friends. So well made, edited and above all, heartfelt. I hug you tightly and leave you my big like! Renata
Hi guys WOW this is an incredible production! I have no idea being massive 80’s fans and huge fans of Christmas how neither of us have heard of this tv series! But it has gone to the top of our list for this Christmas’ viewing if we can find it! The mix of you guys visiting the locations, showing the series in that old tv 📺 on a Christmas scene, the use of w3w /// and the amazing drone work was just incredible! Really enjoyed this and excited to watch the series. It looks like it has a Narnia/Harry Potter charm to it! Thank you for putting this on our radar 👍❤️
Cheers guys, they're actually showing again on the tv this Christmas. I think it's BBC 4 in December - so check it out. Thanks for watching and leaving us this lovely comment. Cheers 🍻
Well what can I say. Having not seen the series. God knows how I haven’t. This was fantastic. Easily your best work ever. And who k ew you could fly. 🤷🏻♂️. This made me chuckle All the way through. Absolutely splendiferous. And you were only about 15 miles away at one point. Tewkesbury is a favourite of our to walk around. ( pronounced Chooksbry) round ere. 😂😂. Best Sunday night telly I’ve seen for ages. 🍻🍻. Cheers.
Ah Watto, what a lovely thing to say. You and Kim should definitely give the series a watch! We loved our time there, it's a lovely part of England. We stayed in a little caravan just outside Bewdley. Tewkesbury is a lovely town, so quaint! I bet they do a mean Christmas market!! Cheers for watching 🍻
Fantastic! I can't remember this series, maybe I was a couple of years too young? Wish we were in Wales for Christmas, I bet Beth (and I) would love it! See you maybe in January though?? Lots of love xx
Been looking forward to this! I was terrified of Robert Stephens... So delighted that the BBC is reshowing the series this Christmas! Most excellent work, you two! Happy Christmas!! ;) N&Nx
BRAVO BRAVO!!!!👏 Outstanding job you two!!! I think I’m going to watch it again and then try to find Box of Delights for us to watch! What an enchanting story and gives Harry Potter a run for his money! Thank you for all your hard work on this production it was truly entertaining I couldn’t take my eyes away from the screen! ~Cara ❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much Cara. It was a fun one to make as we really love the show. We enjoyed that break away in the Summer and Scrobblefest was so much fun. Cheers 🍻
What a fantastic video, I’ve never heard of this film but I’m my, you have definately done it justice. I love the way you have produced this one, 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Well done guys x💕
I'd not heard of this film- love to look it up. Lived in NZ at that time and had a young family. It is right up my alley though. I will mention it to my son for his 5. I'm sure they'll love it. This was a most professional exciting and wonderful story so well edited. What a great time you must have had researching and filming at the locations. My hat off to you both. Have a wonderful week ahead. 🩷🇳🇱🙋♀🥝 👌
Thank you so much Anita. We really enjiyed making this one and loved visiting the locations. The effects are dated now, but it is still a really magical and Christmassy series! Definitely worth a watch! Cheers 🍻
Excellent I’ve often wondered about the locations. Unfortunately you’ve made me suddenly feel old, you watched BOD as kids, I watched it as a 36 year old in 1984! Back in 2018 The Little Cinema in Bath showed all of the episodes back to back.
I don't think it matters what age you are, the box takes us all back in time and makes us wish Christmas would be like that! I know I certainly feel like that these days! Cheers for watching. 🍻
I've not heard of this series (it seems the ABC, the Australian government TV station that normally broadcasts BBC programs didn't show it) and I haven't heard of the book it's based on either. You did a great job with the story and showing the locations, so many beautifully preserved historic places, I'm sure it was a mammoth task to put this video together, fantastic job.
Thanks so much for watching. Another Australian sub said he watched it over there. I don't know if it went on some obscure channel. It's a brilliant series and seriously Christmassy and magical! Check it out if you can. Cheers 🍻
Wow wow o wow ! How on earth ??? What an amazing video ! Incredible production values (how have you done all those effects ? ) well this was a wonderfully narrated trip down memory lane …And with PIE!! This was a fantastic trip into our youthful imagination…. You’ve really done justice to this wonderful show …Can you do the Tomorrow People next pls ? Or Sapphire and Steel ?? …Might need to binge watch a few old shows now .
I don't know those other two, Wills does and we now have to seek them out to watch! The pie was a triumph!! Cheers for watching, this was such a fun one to make. It's a beautiful part of the country for sure. Cheers for your lovely comment. 🍻
@@PostcardAndAPint My pleasure! I'm going to watch your Blackpool video later (love that place). Now, as the wolves are running - Merry Christmas to you both.
You pair of legends. First were on the same European cruise with Jamie (we didn't know about you then) and now you're being 'Boxers' in my home patch! Murphy's Law says we're going to crash into each other on Iona in Mid March ha ha!
Thank you so much, that means a lot. I love selecting the music for our videos and really try to get the feel for the piece so the music tells the story as much as the script. Cheers 🍻
I've literally never heard of it - now I have a mission to find and watch it! Warm wishes from Millionaire Paul 👋 ps You never mentioned that you could fly! 😅
I must say, I've never heard of this piece of cinema history. That being said this was glorious. A fascinating insight in to young Wills and Rach's formative viewing. Now I understand the inspiration for your own visual effects. The flying sequence was outstanding. Nice touch adding the wooden landing gear. I wish I'd seen Box of Delights, which sounds like something you'd get from Cadburys, but I was like 20 then and watching 1984 movies like The Terminator, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Ghostbusters and Australia's contribution to the list of greatest Christmas movies of all time, Razorback. 😁 I wish I'd been scrobbled though. Interesting to note that when I wrote scrobbled I thought it would be underlined by the spell checker as unknown. But bugger me. It is a real word and means something like sharing musical taste and get recommendations based on that. Who knew? Audio Engineer Wills perhaps? Fantastic job on this video. Amazing work!
Cheers Shane - we know we could have fixed the flying with some black pants for wills and a green cloth, but it made up laugh with the wooden landing gear, so we left it in! Sounds like you had excelllent taste in movies back in 1984. Come on over to England, we can arrange for you to be scrobbled! Happens all the time here! Cheers for watching 🍻
@@PostcardAndAPint no fixing required, it was perfect. 1984 was a good year for cinema. If we missed one at the movies we always had glorious VHS later. 😂
Yep, we're telling everyone we can who doesn't own it on dvd to watch! Our Blu Ray has just arrived so we're looking forward to our annual watch. Cheers 🍻
The same year The Box of Delights arrived on television screens, Eastnor Castle was also used as the location for the music video for Slade's hit single "Run Runaway".
Really? Wow, I didn’t know that. I bought the single, love the song and can remember the video being done in a castle, had no idea it was Eastnor. Thanks for that, I’ll have to check it out again. Cheers
It's interesting how older books had children off on adventures, disappearing for days with no parental supervision. I'm sure it's one of the reasons why I loved the Famous Five books and also the Swallows and Amazons series, but they are harder to children to relate to nowadays. A shame because I think reading about children going on adventures did help instil a sense of adventure in a generation of children.
We totally agree. I was so peeved with my parents when they wouldn't let me, my sister and 2 cousins go away on holiday for an adventure! Spoil sports!! I agree that's why we're so much more adventurous now! Cheers for watching 🍻
i remember this, the editing by you 2 is getting better and better.my favourite which scared me to death long before this was children of the stones.but love these sort of train stations.Again the amount of work you both put into every one of your video's.Being honest never watched this much think i was too old 😀.But i love anything that is none pc woke and all rubbish about today.i tried get rid phils blueray and dvd collections i am glad i didnt, things like little britain come fly with me and many more due to cancel culture are worth alot now.sorry waffling.love the cartoon tv and the way you have edited this, love wills tshirt, and the pack horse is my kind of pub.love the robin we have one come to our garden for years.love the mock castle, and the lake stick my kayak in,lake reminds me of swallows and the amazons.the cathedral is stunning, for them days the flying scene was good.wills the window licker made me laugh you 2 diamonds have a wicked xmas debs xx ps showing my age i was a member and still am of catweazel fan club
Ah thank Debs. We loved making this one and I think we are learning a bit as we go. We don't really do 'woke' - we just do us (although Wills has had to censor me a few times!! 🤣). Wills remembers those programmes (and makes a good window licker!!). Cheers for watching and sending you loads of love. 🍻
Cheers for watching. The box is my sisters. I think it was made by someone who is in the Facebook group 'Box of Delights appreciation society' - she's having a look now and can hopefully find us a name. Cheers 🍻
So British children grew up with Box of Delights and The Snowman... We American kids grew up with Rudolph the red nose reindeer and Frosty the Snowman ⛄️
To be fair, even though we only had 4 channels back then, amazingly not everyone watched it! The boxers are a minority!! I'm so glad me and Wills have it in common. Cheers 🍻
They did a play of the book at the RSC last Xmas. Fantastic. Then discussing with another fan on twitter if it were made today which Doctor Who cast would play which characters. Sylvester McCoy, cole hawlings Sylvia Daisy Pouncer, Missy Abner Brown, Peter Capaldi ...any other ideas, spoilers...
We saw a version at Wilton's music hall a few years back. We didn't manage to get to the one in Stratford last year. Sadly we're not really Dr Who people so can't help you out there!!! Cheers 🍻
What we saw was ok but did you have to squeeze yourself into every shot?, and there were too many locations missing like the canals, river and Peel of Lumphanan, so I can only give you a B- on this one.🐺🐺🐺
Cheers David! With us both working full time and only having two days to film this vlog, I thought we did pretty well! Sadly our box was just a prop so it was impossible to 'go swift' up to Scotland and down to London to get those locations! We tried to find the weir for the boat scene (and failed) and in the video we do say about London and Scotland, we just didn't have time. We're usually in our videos much more, so you've had a lucky escape there! Cheers for watching 🍻

It's not Christmas without it! We really enjoyed seeing it back on tv at the weekend. Cheers for watching 🍻
Agreed!! Thanks everyone 😊
Eastnor is a beautiful castle! Many things have been filmed there. You got some beautiful footage of it!👍👍
It's beautiful. We loved our walk around the lake. Cheers for watching 🍻
England at that time was much more full of joy and believers.... it was a wonderful time.
You're correct! This programme had us both mesmerised and living in a different world! We miss those days! Cheers for watching 🍻
" I think you look a pretty shady lot!"... CLASSIC❤
Best line ever!
Thanks
Thank you so much. Thats is so kind. We're glad you enjoyed it xx
Thank You for the trip down memory lane, bless you Guys
Thanks for watching. This was fun to make. 🍻
I've never heard of Box of Delights! But I would watch you guys read and video the phone book...
so I'm here for this video!
Mmmmm the phone book!!! There's a vlog idea!!! 🤣.
Very festive, all the locations probably look even more so this weekend. I remember the TV series but I couldn't have told you much about it. Well done on finding the locations.
Thank you so much. There was an excellent blog online that helped and a lot of searching on Google earth!!!! Cheers 🍻
Oh guys. That was splendiferous. My favourite one yet. I think you may have broken my box though because I just tried to go swift too but it’s not working! I had the best time at Scrobblefest yesterday Rach. Gutted you couldn’t come Wills. One day hopefully.
Cheers Ruth, I'd have love to have gone!!!
@@ruthc6306 Ruth, do they sell those boxes as movie merchandise in the town? How did you get one?
@ no they don’t. Someone in the Box Of Delights appreciation society made a few a few years ago. I actually bought it for my son who is also a fan but I seem to have stolen it back!
@@ruthc6306 and Rach broke it. That’s a sibling for you. She sucked all the magic out of it.

Love this… thanks for the fond memories ✌️
You're most welcome. We loved the show as kids and loved making this as two big kids!! Cheers 🍻
A lovely production, gg's guys ✨️. I missed this series, no doubt, as I am a few years older. I was probably in the pub, 😊.
Like deployed 👍
Haha, well, it's on BBC 4 this Christmas, so no excuse....unless the pub is calling!!! Cheers as always!!
What a beautiful curated and lovingly made documentary, it must have taken such a long time to put this together, I’ve saved all the W3W and hope to visit these locations one day. Thank you 🤩
Thank you so much. We love the series so it was a pleasure to make. We hope you have fun exploring. Cheers 🍻
Splendiferous!
Thanks so much. Making this was so much fun, even getting up early on our holidays wasn't the purple pim! Cheers 🍻
@@PostcardAndAPint Yes, I have enjoyed the 40th, even doing an overview for my christmas blog. I should join that facebook group for next years scrobblefest.

Simply amazing, loved this growing and watch it every year!

Hello, guys! I didn't know this Christmas production and you made me discover it through this beautiful creation.
Truly a wonderful video, my friends. So well made, edited and above all, heartfelt.
I hug you tightly and leave you my big like! Renata
Thanks Renata. It's a beautiful series that gets you on the mood for Christmas. Xx🍻
@PostcardAndAPint WONDERFUL.... Big embrace!!
Brilliant, so great to see the film locations. Maybe next year (if it takes place) I can make it to Scrobblefest, along with my box of such delights
Scrobblefest was so much fun. It was my first one and it definitely won't be the last! You bring your box of such delights next year! Cheers 🍻
You mad buggers. Thank you so much.
We'll take that!! Cheers for watching 🍻
That was your best video yet!
Ah thanks mate, appreciate it!!!
Ah H, it would be amazing to see you! Let's make January work if you're around. And yes, you need Box of Delights ok your life! It's magical 🍻

Cheers 🍻
@ I’ve sent the links to my son. Hopefully they can find it online. 👌
Cheers 🍻

Arley is one of my favourite places.
We loved the train station. We did cross the river into the village, but didn't go far. It was really pretty. 🍻
@PostcardAndAPint if you ever return, there's not much in the village but there's lovely walks along the river or around the Arboretum.
Ian's mum used to work in Bromyard!!! I didn't know it was famous! One of our favourite fish and chips places is there... Shun Fat 😂
Wow really! Thats cool. It's a very pretty place. We had a lovely lunch on the big hotel. 🍻
The music set the atmosphere beautifully. The main reason i watched it was for the opening theme,,,
Thank you so much, that means a lot. I love selecting the music for our videos and really try to get the feel for the piece so the music tells the story as much as the script. Cheers 🍻
Those old buildings are so cool inside. The architecture is duplicated here to look like it in some places.
Yeah, they're cool buildings aren't they
I've literally never heard of it - now I have a mission to find and watch it! Warm wishes from Millionaire Paul 👋 ps You never mentioned that you could fly! 😅
I think you probably noticed we couldn't fly!!!! Do check the series out, it's seriously Christmassy and magical. 🍻
Thanks you alll for this
Thank you so much for watching. We had a lot of fun making this. Cheers 🍻
Bbc4 are showing it on 7th Dec at 7pm.

Ah thank Debs. We loved making this one and I think we are learning a bit as we go. We don't really do 'woke' - we just do us (although Wills has had to censor me a few times!! 🤣).
