- The government might tweak the Public Order Act to give police the power to shut down pro-Palestinian protests in London, which have been happening every weekend since October.
Officials are "actively considering" changes to Section 12 of the Act, which would let police factor in the "relative cumulative disruption" of protests when deciding whether to stop them. The scope of what counts as disruption is also being reviewed.
This move comes ahead of an official review by Lord Walney, the government's independent advisor on political violence and disruption, which is set to be published this week with recommendations for ministers.
The Home Office has noted that recent protests have involved a small minority causing damage and intimidation and have faced criticism for instances of antisemitism.

As someone who supports freedom of speech and assembly - even though I have no time for these protests - I don't support banning the marches. They could certainly be better policed, and there are instances of two tier policing and just bad policing, but that's not reason to ban marches per se. I don't agree with hate speech laws, either. Hate speech is subjectively perceived, and restrictions on speech that offends some people - excluding speech that incites violence - should also not be countenanced in a democratic society. Giving the State more powers over what citizens can say or do is not something that I want to see.

they should be banned not because of the speech in them, I'm all for free speech and right to protest. But they are disrupting daily life for British citizens. No protest should ever interfere with daily activities like getting to work, crossing a road, not being able to access buildings etc. If they want to protest, they can take it to an area and sit there for a couple of hours and move on.
But the most important point is this: The people on these marches DONT CARE about free speech. They have been perfectly willing to shut down anything Islamophobic, homophobic, transphobic. Bear in mind that many participants of these marches are Jewish and the marches are predominantly peaceful, unlike Israel, a state that is far from peaceful and is run by a coalition led by the Likud, a political party founded by a terrorist who was responsible for the deaths of British soldiers as well as many innocent civilians. How many who object to these peace marches actually know the history of the conflict?
There are a handful of ultra orthodox Jews for hire and a whole bunch of neo Marxists who barely rise to the level of being "cultural Jews" who are involved in these protests and even HAMAS has referred to them as useful idiots. Comparing a "protest" march with the actions of a sovereign state is just risible and these marches are seen as "peaceful" as they are effectively going unpoliced, some of the chants are far from peaceful. Do you really think that bringing up the death of any British citizens (I am assuming you are talking about the King David Hotel bombing) or pointing out that innocent civilians die in war is going to help your case? Israel is not targeting civilians, it is doing all it can to warn civilians of impending military action in their areas and advising them to leave, even though doing so compromises their missions *and the lives of their soldiers* , HAMAS do all they can to maximise casualties. What did one M bin Abdullah have to say about women and children being killed during his raids?
