- In this video I build an external power supply for the Atari 520ST using a Meanwell RT-50B, some wires, plastic, and some plugs and a cable.

I do just that with a Meanwell PSU on an Atari STf (identical to what you would do for an STe)

1986, my first ST ! ST
Yes, I think there were few 260, but not much. At first, my ST had 2 EPROM with just enough software to boot on floppy. So 512 KB were the minimum. Why ? The TOS went in RAM, add the usual desktop accessories at the time, launch ST Basic and cry ! 4 Kb left for your program ! OK, that's 4 times what's in a base ZX81, but I had the 64 KB extension on this one !
Later, I had the EPROM replaced by a TOS, freeing as much RAM. Better, much better ...
My ST had 1024 KB. Most of the time. Why ? Because I had to bring it back about 10 times, because of bugs, mainly MMU related I think. And one time, back home, my 1040 had become a 520 ...
About the power supply ... Well, power supplie in fact ! One for the ST, and one for the floppy, both were external too. But it was so useful in winter : you got one power supply to warm each of your feet !
Another detail : the mouse and joystick ports were on the right, so much easier to access than on the STf and STe !
I'll regret all my life the moment I sold it. But it was to by an STe with 4 MB and develop a commercial SW (nothing famous, some ST Photoshop called Studio Effects. Some copies sold in France by a very small and very dead company !). This STe is still on my desk, with its B&W and color monitor, and the 300 MB HD from a friend !
Coincidence! I’m just editing a video for an external ST PSU build. Albeit with a twist. Yours looks to have gone better than my first attempt, however. Well done! 😅

you should probably have blocked off the case ventilation to the area with the wires, because that case looks like an electrical hazard.
Not a bad idea...I'm fine with it as it is given how I use it...but for long-term broad use (like on floors and whatnot) that makes perfect sense. Already have a modified design printing.

The external PSU's I had were always black, but I have seen the beige ones too....hmmm
Can you post the direct link to the case files? I happen to be making this same thing right now. I'm using a different switch so the original source file might be helpful as well vs. just the STL.

I agree that this is a pretty simple thing to do but sometimes folks might think this kind of thing is harder than it actually is.
@@powerofvintage9442 it was just a silly joke. Please don't take me seriously. Fact is, it's a good video and things learned here are very much transferable to many other projects. So, very valuable.
