So many small businesses don't really know how to utilize social media. Last month (seems like a year ago) I was in Coronado, Ca with my wife and son for a weeklong trip. We tagged Del coronado in a photo.. immediately they liked my photo and sent me a message with some coupons to come in and have some ice cream... ha.. now that is awesome. I have a property that I work with in Big Bear California (completely closed down right now) and they scan the insta grams for people that use the #bigbear hashtag and invite them over to happy hour. and share news about the town.
I use Instagram to plan trips all of the time. There's so many "fellow travelers" that I get advice. Dive Iceland builds a really good community. By the way, please release more Iceland videos. It makes my day.
It is so interesting that social media is created not only to advertise different things to people whether that be a trip or a product, but also to get people talking to each other.
Social networks refer to the bonds between users, and how they interact. Social media is about constantly pushing novel content through these networks. For example, the original Facebook 1.0 was a social network. It was a way to form intimate connections with "friends" online. For those that remember, the timeline was very "friends-first". Later, Facebook became a social media company. They figured out how to propagate media content through these social networks, giving rise to their new model, where users publish content far and wide. Social networks define relationships among users. Social media defines how information flows through these networks. In modern times, the two often arise together, but social media is the pronounced entity. Most social media companies only need you to build a "large enough, good enough" network to help share and interact with other people's content. Although essentially all social media platforms have networking built in (think comments, likes, DMs, etc), that's not what modern social media platforms are optimized for. I'm not an expert, but hopefully this distinction between the two makes sense. I also appreciate Professor Wolters positive take on social media platforms. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. Social media definitely has many, many dark aspects to it. But it's not all bad. Pretty sure his kids are grateful for social media lol. Awesome video, and great discussion. Peace ☮🙏🏽
@@mr.blonde8808 yeah, he wrote me that morning and said i needed to come out. I missed the fog though, it was pretty cool about 15 minutes before i started filming, but i missed it. would have been a cool "spooky" scene :)
File a complaint with the social media platform. They have rules if they are going against the platforms user guidelines. If they aren't going against guidelines not much can be done
I love his energy. As a teacher, l wish l had that every day.

Could you tell us what is the different between social media and network please?
Network is the platform it is on. Social media is the content that is created and shared on the network
@@ProfessorWolters Thank you very much.
I have exam next week.
What is the difference between social media platform from social media application?
Platform is the overall experience like "facebook" while the application is the individual application you download to your phone.
