Considering he had throttle Issues, the whole race and pretty much has only been in a cup car for five hours, plus he’s never been to that track, to finish top 10 is pretty bloody amazing.
I would love to see how he does in an oval. I know he did the truck race Friday but I would like to see him in a cup car. Just out of pure curiosity. Dude looked good today though. Definitely seemed to be fine with throwing the car around and asserting himself more than the other intl drivers
@@hurricaneshand I actually think he’d probably be better on an oval in a cup car because it’s more familiar to him equipment wise, but then the level of competition would be a lot higher. He learns pretty quick so given time I think he could do quite well. Justin Marks just said so I’m an interview I saw 5 minutes ago too.

As an Aussie Watching the kiwi's leave our series and go on to American racing was a little sad to say the least. The New Zealanders are basically our next door neighbours. Aye there's always the upcoming generations that'll out grow NZ and feed into Oz and stay there, or go to Europe or NA or Japan. The story for me here in NZ is, if there's no kiwi on the grid (whether that's indycars, WEC, FE, F1, F2, motogp, iomtt, whatever...) then I'm cheering on the aussies to beat the world. We punch above our weight in motorsport.
If you were watching the race, which jeff burton obviously wasn't... you could tell he was holding back and being respectful af to the 20, 5, and 19. He already said on Dale Jr's podcast that he did not want to spoil anyone's playoff run.
Watching his in car you could tell that throttle stickiness was affecting him big time. Wheels were spinning out of the slow corners and the bump on the final. He was making very tight lines to mitigate it as much as possible. I think that was Mcdowell's race either way but I'd bet a lot he would've been top 5 without the throttle issue.
Nascar should do everything they can to get this guy into a full-time drive. He will entertain the masses with his ability and skill. Top 10 finish with a sticky throttle is insane.

Im glad he was having a great day, im wondering how he will do at ovals and ponoco on top of the road courses next yr. but i agree with burton i think said that he needs to race a few races in the trucks and xfinity to see how the tracks are. not to just jump into the cup level. im excited to see him next wkd at the glen. im hyped.
Hope SVG does well in NASCAR, really like the guy. But I also hope my fellow ANZ fans will gain more of an appreciation for the nuances of oval racing, its not as easy as the daytona arcade machine we love playing so much here haha.
What a great race car driver! The element of surprise was not here and everyone was not at a new track where a great road course racer might have an advantage over the regulars. Yet he still finished in the top 10, awesome!
You could tell watching his incar he was down on HP to the top 15. He caught them everytime in the technical section only to get pulled on at the straights and have to try to gain it all back again each and every lap.

If you take the 2 races SVG has raced compared to all other drivers from a points perspective in the same 2 races (and if i have done my maths (math) right) He would be 3rd on points at 82 with C Elliot on 83 and M McDowell on 101 in front of him. Not bad for a rookie...

SVG coming 10th is still an awesome effort considering his lack of experience on this track and racing in the NASCAR environment with all these seasoned racers. Got to remember he basically kept his pole position and definitely performed the best from the rest of the international drivers. Shane will just get better and better in NACAR given the opportunity and the NASCAR drivers and owners already respect his incredible racing talent.

This race was too bizarre and as an Aussie, it was disappointing. You could not pass, as soon as you got side by side the cars would wipe each other out. It was not the ideal course for SVG..
The Indy GP layout is a bit shit tbh. Every series has had boring races there. Everyone associates it with the F1 tyre drama but the races were dull even for F1 standards. Indycar has the absolute displeasure of racing there twice a season. Only a Dixon masterclass stopped it from being a pole to podium race.

Apart from V8 Supercars, where he's dominated, he's also raced GT2 (left hand drive), Rally in stages of the WRC, Speedway, quad bikes and open wheeler. He's also high up in the sim-racing world. He's versatile and a quick learner.

Not saying he won't be good. He has talent and seems like a good guy, but they are making it seem like he's gonna win 5 championships.

IMO SVG will obviously do well on the road courses, but Nascar is far more than just that. I actually think he'll be pretty damn solid on traditional cup ovals. I just don't think he's going to dominate everything like people are acting like he will. I also think it's a good thing he started with these cars and didn't enter a few years ago with the old generation. The next gen car definitely is more suited for him.

Yea he was lot better under brakes than others but bad for corner exits because of the throttle

He ran an oval in the truck series on Friday and finished 19th so needless to say he'll adapt well.
He won't race the Glen next week on account of him having to race in Australia in the Supercars next week.
Pocono is essentially a roval if one thinks about it. Lots of road course specialists do well there due to the car control and setups
