Could newly-discovered "moon cave" become an astronaut base camp? 🌒

- An Italian research team published evidence Monday of a cavern on the moon that they believe could one day provide an ideal location for astronauts to set up camp.
The cave, which is 40 metres wide and tens of metres long, is open on the moon’s surface at the Sea of Tranquility, approximately 400 kilometres from where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed 55 years ago during the Apollo 11 mission.
Scientists say it could shelter astronauts from the moon’s harsh surface environment, solar radiation and micrometeorite strikes, therefore allowing for “long-term exploration.”
Global’s Nathaniel Dove takes a closer look at this promising discovery.

This cave was discovered years and years ago. Why are they saying newly discovered?
Clickbait will always clickbait
How about making sure humans have places to live on the earth first.
They really dont care about all human life. We are all pawns in a world run by the rich.
Just checked, they already do.
@@11C1P they do? Then why are Americans homeless?
@@mrwinston_thepug Most choose to, but that doesn't make the planet uninhabitable. In fact all humans were homeless for at least the first few millennia of their existence.
@@11C1PHow many moons orbit the planet you reside on?
Word on the street is, Bid invitations wont be sent to Boeing.🚀
Better to set a base on the north pole of the moon. It might get perpetual sunlight on one of it's mountain top. It's not shown in the total sunlight recieved. Yet, shows in the heat signature map of the moon. Meaning the top of the ridge casts shadows around it due to the oblique of the moon. The heat signature shows that if you put solar panels at the top of that mountain it will be in sunlight continuously. The south pole of the moon is a bit punched in meaning it receives more shadows. Unless they find water in or around a lava tube. It might be next to pointless to put a base in it.
Very ambitious, best of luck to them!
They think it’s lava caves so it’s more like tunnels
What a logistical nightmare it will be to resupply such a base.
we will figure it out, we always have.
Will a portion be set aside for affordable housing units?
Perhaps a ET migrant centre?
Don't forget the Safe-Injection sites!
Moon better be inclusive....
Don’t believe half of what you hear, and question the other half.
They are really ramping up with “outer space” stories lately
Never believe what you see on the screen!
I don't believe half the lies I hear.
Flat earthers... 🤦
Yeah astronauts living in a sinkhole is most definitely safe.
you think people who strap themselves into a rocket ship care about danger?
No soil. No water. No air. Nothing grows... Seems fit to move to?
you can grow things inside a habitat. we would just need to take earth soil with us. bring our own water and make our own air. you underestimate the power of humanity.
@@maxthibodeau3627 Have I? As I watch humanity destroy these things already.
I wonder why human can’t go to the moon as they did long time ago even with better technology 😂 something is not adding up
we took all of NASA's funding, now stop yapping.
setting up a magnetic field on the moon should be step number 1
That's where the moon rock spiders live...
that movie was nuts.
On the moon we can build bigger and launch easier we must become moles again to shield us. Finding a natural cave is beneficial to starting a work colony there.
Look how much it costs to get supplies to remote towns/areas on earth. Getting them to the moon regularly is a fantasy lol
you are a defeatist, we are capable of anything if we really want to do it.
@@maxthibodeau3627 touch base with reality. Besides impossible supply chains, The moon has nothing on it to even justify trying to colonize it.
@@haphazardprism the moon will be an important step to colonizing our solar system, firstly it has one important resource. its called Helium-3 and it is unique to the moon. it is thought that it will make fusion reactors much more powerful, and since its not a radioactive isotope it wont produce any radioactive waste. but thats not even the main reason, the main reason the moon will be important is the low gravity and no atmosphere. we can use the moon to launch space craft so much easier than we can on earth, it will make space travel much cheaper.
lol a sink hole?, prob not structurally sound enough
I heard it gets quiet.

If we sent Trudeau, he would be the first male feminist on the moon as he would plant a rainbow flag. Wouldn't that be glorious?
I don’t know why but all of a sudden the words space and cadet came to mind.
Leave the 👽 alone
Who is going to occupy the cave first?
i cant wait for the moon cave wars.
Iron Sky anyone?
We are doomed

More I see how much we as humans are struggling to get humans to the moon in the 2020s, the more I seriously doubt that humans actually went and landed humans on the moon in the 1960s, all this technological advancement and they have to keep delaying all this, seriously seems odd to me, given all the technological advances
Exactly 😂

Whenever I hear "scientists say", "scientists believe" etc. more than two times in one sentence I 😂 and then turn around to research some more serious matter 😅
Maybe you can find jobs there. 🤣😂😂🤣
To me it looks like a sinkhole, which means the moon has glacial lakes under the surface, I don't know how good of an idea it would be to build a base there?!
Why is this a thing?😂
Why would they stay in a cave ?
Why is it such a groundbreaking discovery? It’s a cave. What’s the big deal?
NASA needs to make sure that China didn't trash the moon.
China needs to make sure NASA and USA don’t invade the moon.

@@lc8850 your just butt hurt that we got there first :)
@@maxthibodeau3627 lol when did you make it there?

You'll be OK
Lol! They will not allow us. Goofball
Trudeau giving more money to ukraine or what?
That's no moon. It's a space station!
Lets see if they even make it to the moon. No one has been there yet.
