General Season Rifle Elk Hunting 2022

- Hunting bull elk on public land during the general season can be a challenge, but we find success during a late hunt in the snow. We only had a few days to hunt and neither of us had ever been to this unit before. My friend Tim takes a bull that I call in from 600+ yards away in late November.

Tim was using a Ruger#1 .300 Mag. My rifle, which is what I hunt basically everything with when I’m not bow hunting, is a modified Rem700 30-06.
Do you do any DIY hunts? I’ve noticed all your hunts are guided hunts
Actually I’ve never gone with a guide or outfitter, all my hunts are DIY. The other people you see me with are good friends and family that I hunt with.

Make no mistake, there are a ton a guys that would've flung lead at 600 yds,...but like others have said you did the right thing and set a great example of being a hunter not a sniper. Now you can brag about how close ya got, not how far you shot!
Thank you for recognizing that. This shot ended up being 65 yards, and calling that group up to us in late Nov is what I’ll remember most about this hunt.

Good job where are the horses?
It was a quick trip and I decided to leave the horses at home. I was sure regretting it when we had to pack meat out on our backs though!
