The R101 (built about 5 miles from my house) was not a military airship. It was an experimental passenger ship designed for services between England and India. It was the sister ship of the privately built R100, which flew to Canada and back in 1930. The R101 also had a smoking room. Although the Zeppelin Company bought 5000kg of duralumin from the wreckage of the R101 it is not known if it ended up in the Hindenburg. It could have been used for any number of other things.
