The fact that you did this while pregnant and while it was cold BLOWS MY MIND. Amazing job! I loved to see a real life progression of how things looked, too!
4:08 I've done a fair amount of rehab and construction work, for pay, (!), and it does me good seeing another woman who is capable with tools, builds, DIY, and fam! It gets old looking at do-overs of massive gardens, by companies I'd never afford, or the same old DIY stuff from Dollar Stores. Keep up the great work. Retired Union Scenic Artist, Housepainter and rehabber.
I also liked how you provided a one year update. It still looks beautiful. One recommendation, consider buying bulbs and plant them in some buckets. They can be planted based on the seasons and if you plan it right you could get flowers all summer long without having to replant anything.
Wow. Just wow. Amazing job! This landlord is SO LUCKY to have you as a renter. Also - everything is super professional on this video. The work, the voice, the voice over, camera work, editing. Everything. This is the first time I see your channel and was surprised that you don’t have a million subscribers. Hopefully soon 🤞😘 @HomeDepot is wise to work with you.
I'm glad that you let your children come out to watch you work. I like ALL of your ideas and that they are renter friendly. Telling and showing us what didn't work is very important! Thank you for being honest so we can avoid mistakes. Blessings on you and your family!🕊
Your kids are so cute! You are a rock star, pulling off a project like that with that belly...high five. Thanks for confirming my ideas,I have been thinking of doing a similar project and I am also renting.
I LOVED that you showed how not perfect it was before. I LOVED that you showed it 1 year later and you refreshed!! My FAVORITE.. no one does that--rarely!!!! Thanks!!!!
I love it that u shared the time with the babies, they learn from us the role models, also how u said u appreciated the help but asked them nicely to go inside. Beautiful!!! Best wishes 🙏❤️☮️🙏❤️☮️
PS, you're a super star for pulling off this project while pregnant... And your kids are so cute, and it's always awesome to see parents modeling DIY for their kids so they can learn they can take on any project they can imagine :)
Love the idea you did on your patio with pergola. I love seeing couple doing a project with all support from each other. Your kids are adorable too🥰 God bless you and your Family.❤️
Had a mini heart attack when you say on that wall to screw in the pergola. I would have a hard time, much less doing all this w/ a bun in the oven. Boss level work. Your kids watching you work like soccer moms at a game with they blankets, so cute! Thanks for sharing this.
Atta-Girl! 🙂So Proud of You and Your Husband, (and Adorable kids) for this Amazing Renter-Friendly Video! You made a Balcony into a Wonderful Beautiful Outdoor space for you & your Family to Enjoy! 🙂
Great job.. definitely made the most of a tiny space.. I would just cut the bucket to the cement level and use them as little tables to put your drink on.
Girl, you and I are kindred spirits. I know about “the zone”. I would do all sorts of home improvement while pregnant. Once I painted a dining room during a tornado warning with sirens going off, WHILE PREGNANT. My friends were in their basements and crawl spaces and I was painting 😂. My three kids are 20-somethings now, but I am still a DIY queen. I am about the stain an air conditioner unit screen I built right now. If you got the skills, keep your money and keep up the good work. Your balcony look very nice.
I really love it!!! Its amazing how the balcony looks kind of enclosed but at the same time open with more privacy, a bit like a winter garden... In germany its sadly forbidden to make many changes of the appearance of the balcony people can see from the street. At least in rented flats. But the plant trays are great idea for our big windows for inside 💗 thank you so much 😘
Thank you so much!! Content is a bit slow on RUclips but there’s much more on my IG! @simplyhandmade. Just finished another outdoor makeover I think you’d enjoy!
Great way to improve Your space w/o damaging the existing property. And your kids are adorable! What you & your husband are modeling for them will last a lifetime!
Beautiful reno :) When your son wants to help, I would have some projects, age appropriate that he can participate in. He will feel so proud and also learn some real skills. My 4 year old grandson and I do simple "construction" projects and he is so involved and happy ; he always wears safety glasses, and knows all the tools. I involve him in the safe , age appropriate parts of the project. Happy DIY; ing to everyone out there.
WOW! What an amazing transformation!! Absolutely Brilliant!! You are an artist, a crafts woman, and a perfectionist and the beauty of your final projects reflect your talents and gifts. I am especially impressed you did all of this HARD WORK while pregnant!! Unbelievable! What a beautiful family you have as well. Your children are so blessed and they will always remember their amazing mother building this pergola!!
Wonderful!! My one suggestion about the buckets not having drainage, you could’ve just planted pothos vines. They can actually grow in water alone. As the vines grow longer, you can have them wrap around and climb the poles.
Young lady, you are amazing ! Your family is gorgeous. Best of everything to you, your husband and your children. 😍😍😍 I learned all kinda things I will be using!! Bless you.
New subscriber here from Australia. Thanks for sharing your renovation on your patio. It looks fantastic BTW. You and your husband did an awesome job, especially as you were very pregnant. Me, I would have fallen off that patio whether I was pregnant or not. Your children are adorable and very well mannered, kudos to you both for raising them to have good manners. I think they will all be very hard workers when they grow up from watching their parents doing a lot of work together. My kids are all pretty hard workers and all my grandchildren (21 of them) all like to do lots of work outside in the garden or in the shed. It’s great watching them do things. Looking forward to more of your videos. God Bless you and your family.
I wonderful idea for the gutters is planting mint! I get one container and divide it. Grows and spreads fast and smells wonderful after it rains and on a breezy evening! A big bonus is adding it to tea and flavoring booch!!!😊
Absolutely love how it turned out! I'm all for making the patio or balcony an extension of your home, not just a storage dump. Mine is simple, a table and two chairs, a grey outdoor rug (wall to wall) and a flower pot, but I keep it tidy and I love that it's a nice looking extension of my small living room. But most of all, I LOVE and appreciate the sweetness and respect with which you address your adorable babies.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you ! I've been looking for a solution in trying to devise this privacy screen for my backyard. But I didn't want to dig holes or drill holes into the concrete for anchorage. Your use of the 5-gallon buckets and cement to anchor the beams for your privacy screen was genius! Thanks for existing.
Loved this tutorial! I did something similar but based on your experience with the buckets, I opted for clay pots. And I treated the ends of the posts to prevent them from rotting while in contact with the soil. Then I drilled drainage holes where the cement levels off using a downward angle to ensure complete drainage. Next I plastered 2" dia landscape fabric to hide them and sprayed the whole thing with textured paint. I planted vining jasmine and even a year later everything looks great. Thank you for the inspiration!
It looks great! Year two it still looks good. You are learning and as long as you and your family love it, that is all that matters. Love that it is renter friendly. Good for you.
Gorgeous job and renter friendly too! If your neighbors mow their yard the seeds from their grass will go airborne and can land in your planters. That might be how you got grass in them.
Great video! This piece looks quite handsome and it's so innovative for homes where you can't alter the balcony space. We are new homeowners, but the HOA controls the exterior, so these kinds of ideas are appreciated. I especially love the one-year update. Also, your children are as sweet and beautiful as can be! You are amazing doing this while pregnant, like WOW.
I used to live in an apartment and deck was so blah. Couldn't put up anything permanent for privacy. I lite the idea of putting posts in buckets and the hanging gutters. very nice
My goodness🥰 What a wonderful Spring you are in for. 🌷⚘🦠🌾 We are another week away from better weather here in Dayton, Washington. Cold & windy out. I long to garden, lol. We rent a home so are also very limited on projects we can do. Take care & TY for the quick response 🩴💖
Girl you r an interesting, creative inspiration to us all. Not to mention a joy to watch u with ur children. They have a role model n will learn how to be the best they can be from u. I am so impressed with ur skills n jealous too . Absolutely beautiful. Super great job. Ur hubby is a very lucky man. Hugs girlfriend 🥰
Amazing transformation! So beautiful! I particularly liked your choice of colors for the wood! The black and soft light brown look so classy together! I am also super impressed that you did all this work while pregnant! The smell of paint made me nauseous back in my pregnancy days! Then again, pretty much everything did. I liked the gutter planters more than I expected I would. Perfection! Try keeping some flowering annuals in their plastic pots and add them to the buckets. Maybe they will survive. Your little boys wrapped up in the blanket, because they wanted to watch and be near you, are so adorable!
You did an amazing job you should be so proud of yourself I bet you will have a lot of people doing this for their renter porch and their permanent porch I am going to do it for mine I can anchor it permanently thank you so much for your video♥️♥️♥️
I LOVE your vibe, you seem like such a chill yet strong woman. Love the way you interact with your kids, so good to see.... I can count on one hand the times my mom told me she loved me, warmed my heart when you said that to your little one. Bravo!... Oh and the padio looks so inviting, a great place to read a book.
Wow that was Great 👍 I especially liked that you even showed your mistakes to Mabey make it easier for us! Thanks for your time!! Your energy is envious!!✌️
Thank you for the detail Explanations about how you build your pergola. I like the design and the color you choose. Your voice sounds so peaceful and enjoyable!!!
I loved it , what caught my eye was the wood slats and the gutters , i have a small lanai and garden , i had drilled holes in wood slats to hold tiny glass jars and bottles for hanging from ceiling down inside but am going to use it inside since i saw your videos 🙏❤️☮️🙏❤️☮️
What a wonderful idea. I lived in an apartment with a balcony and it had no roof over it either and I baked in the summertime. I did some of my own decorating to make it nice in the summer, but like you, it all had to be removable. I did pretty long plastic planters and sat them along the rail with perennials in them as well as putting Vinca Vine in with them. You might want to try Vinca Vine (I think that is the spelling) because it does what it says, it vines and is beautiful. It grows most anywhere you plant it. My neighbor under me had the luxury of enjoying it also because it vined the whole way to her hanging plants and she loved it. Since I just came across your video, you may already have moved, but that vine is a great thing for hanging plants.
This is one of the best DIY video i've evet watched. One year later part is genious!! Thank you so much and i loved your children. Thank you for this video :)
Love that you made a non-permanent pergola on your balcony. You're very adaptable and capable. One idea I thought for the space in the buckets could be, was to add plastic netting loosely around the post - fill halfway with small black pebbles (to keep the heat) - make some kokedama balls using coca fibre, moss, and coir/peat soil, all wrapped up in cotton then jute or nylon cord - sit the kokedama's around the posts. Any plants can be used for kokedama like small climbing plants (sweepea), herbs, cherry tomato, succulents etc. Even some hanging from the rafters would look cool too. Anyway, well done to you and your whanau.
This was a really fun diy to watch and you did such an amazing job! I've never seen anyone do a renter friendly pergola so it was great to see that come together. I also love that you show the sort of the realistic aspects of things not always being just pretty pictures because things like *seasons* and *life* happen but that we just need a little TLC to get back on track. Can't wait to check out your other stuff
The fact that you did this while pregnant and while it was cold BLOWS MY MIND. Amazing job! I loved to see a real life progression of how things looked, too!
Haha thank you so much!!! 🥰🥰
Yes! And my heart jumped a bit when she was climbing! But I remember all I did while pregnant, you just gotta do what you gotta do sometimes 😉

Wow Momma!! I’m so proud of you 👍 it’s not every day I see an expecting momma working a circular saw!! Beautiful family too, btw 🥰

Succulents would be nice on the gutters planters ❤️ I really love the gutters planters 👏🏼❤️
unless you have money to replace each year after winter I wouldn't recommend for her growing zone.

The most beautiful thing it’s the angelical smile of your son saying “I like it here”…❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
You are so resilient. God Bless you & your family. You're a great example of the Proverbs 31 wife & mother.
If anyone needs to add drainage holes after planting, they work well when drilled on the sides of the container, too. Just do it as low as possible.
Yes! Great tip!
You are patient and have a pleasant voice. Your children are obedient too.
Nice balcony. Enjoy.🌱
