    I saw this email this morning and my heart sank. It took me years to find an equal alternative to Adobe suite. I love the Affinity products, especially how publisher integrates with design and photo. If they go subscription model I guess go back to Adobe. I will use my Affinity 2 for many years or until it stops working I guess. For now, I will enjoy my Affinity!

      Don't panic, times are hard but better times always come. Be determined, keep creative and work towards your goals. I use Canva Pro and I am satisfied about it. But there is a lot of features you can do with Canva without a subscription.
      There will be more revenue to release more features, updates, bug fixes. And according to the news today, nobody will be forced into a subscription in the future.

      @@kristiaanverberne8419 No one will be forced to subscribe to the current version. Just like with Adobe products. Like with Z-Brush. We have gone through this more than once, not twice, not even three times. Affinity is over, it's time to look for an alternative.

    If they turn Affinity into a subscription model, I would rather leave Affinity and subscribe monthly to Adobe suite instead. I don't want a subscription model at all, but they may well force it upon us. I hope they dont change it as I don't think it will benefit them. The one-off payment model is what drives people to use Affinity, they need to keep that as their USP. I doubt I'm the only person who would switch to Adobe if they force subs model on us.

    I'll keep using the Affinity suite as long as I can. But once Canva swallows it up and integrates it into it's subscription model that will be the end of the Affinity suite. I figure maybe a year. I really hope not, it could be great for designers if there was just a link to each other. But I have big doubts about that. Creative Fabrica 's Studio is coming along nicely though. Inkscape has made major improvements. Gimp is always awesome.

      I'd be willing to bet on V3 still being made available as a one time purchase, and as said with any additional integrations with the Canva ecosystem being part of a subscription package. We'll see. That really is the point, no-one knows, yet so many people seem dead certain it's going to become subscription only in the near future, without really any basis except that is the general direction of travel for software (which was the the case prior to the acquisition too).

    • @TigerChic
      @TigerChic 10 месяцев назад

      @@Dark0Storm yeah, I really think Canva will split it up with it being like it is now, a free version and a paid version. And possibly a “pro plan” or something similar. I don’t think Canva will go to a completely paid platform. They have a lot of subscribers upgrade after using free for a while. But, like you said, we really don’t know what to expect. We’ll just have to wait and see. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

    As someone who is new to Affinity, this scares me. I figured I would get into a system that would be there to stay and not part of the Adobe system. I've seen this happen in other products and features would start to move or "stop development" which required going to "pro" or the like. Or, like one video editor, the "lifetime" part was removed.

    I asked Canva in 2022 whether I could download an image as svg and edit it in Illustrator and their reply included the following paragraph “To make sure you comply to Canva’s Content License Agreement, we highly encourage you to create or edit your designs solely in Canva and not use any other apps or softwares to further edit them. Canva is for amateurs who have never touched professional Adobe software. Affinity is for pro designers who don't want to pay a monthly subscription to Adobe Inc. The two groups of users overlap very little. I'm afraid they may dumb down the Affinity suit to "empower" the average Canva user.

    I think there will be a free version for affinity and then also a PREMIUM version that includes new or more advanced versions of the tools plus a Canva subscription. I don’t think they will just completely pull the rug right out from under people because a sudden subscription fee will drive people away. I feel like it smarter to keep it free but dangle the possibility of fancy new and improved tools in front of users so you’ll be more likely to be more likely to try it hoping that the new tools will be good enough where you won’t want to go back to the free version.

    What we can also hope for is for it to be included with Canva Pro if the do decide to make “paid”, if you just was Affinity by itself.
    Also, with Canva acquiring Affinity, Canva may be able to turn Affinity into a design suite that is on par with Kittl. Canva may be realizing that they’re beginning to fall behind in the design space and this may be their big play to try and get back near the top.

  • @timduvall8482
    @timduvall8482 10 месяцев назад +1

    There are a few ways this could go, the first being it would a paid add on to canva, the second option would be to have a cheap subscription price on the app but do a one time price for a canva / affinity suite for pc, but Iam afraid it will be the third option where Canva gives current affinity owners a year or 2 on their commercial use license and to keep them they will have to go the subscription route. On the canva side I think a lot of the pro elements will go to the free side and the affinity aspects and licenses will stay on the pro subscription and those subscription prices are going to be in line with adobe. On a brighter note if you are a canva user the elements and ai will have the help of affinity to be set in the 300dpi so no more scaling them.

    After 37 years, Serif decided to retire after Canva's very generous offer. Things will undoubtedly change, and likely, so with the next version. I expect to see Canva implement graphic design sharing, its AI experience, and a new subscription model. After such an investment they will need to substantially increase revenue from both sides of their customer base. It takes a lot of cheddar to feed 3,500 employees and expect a decent ROI for investors.

    TBH I think this kind of move would be happen for other apps or software . When traction already big enough or fund problem to keep afloat already short , they`ll making same switch . Either it bought by other company or go into cloud and subscription model . Blender maybe the rare case here , I doubt another design company will get same response and donations
    As long they not forcing us to upgrade and the older version still works fine that would be enough for me . And if they push it I`m glad that I still have Adobe CS6 copy somewhere in storage .

I have this weird feeling Canva will do something similar to CSP, where they will continue to offer perpetual licenses but do an upgrade pass or lock some features behind a pay wall. I hope they don't mess this up for us. When these companies purchase things to make it easier for us it really turns out their just greedy. Adobe purchased figma and now you're limited to pages you can use inside a file when it was always free, I know XD use to be free now I can't find it. I think canva is going to do the same thing plus they barely can get their legal parts in order.

    I get why people are upset, but developing software incurs costs. Nobody works for free. You dont buy a car and then expect the servicing to be free. If it goes the way of a subscription based model in future, as long as its reasonably & fairly priced, Im happy with that. If its not, then we go elsewhere or find another solution.
