Love your work. Shame they eliminated the auxiliary input, made backing tracks easy to add (on RC30 and RC300,) but this works. BTW, the word for etc. is ETcetera, although commonly mispronounced as EXcetera. But, you knew that.

Here’s my next question:
TD-3 in Song Mode, MIDI out from RC 5 to in on TD-3. Hit (stomp) Rec, TD-3 doesn’t start…?
MIDI channel 1 or MIDI clock / drums on midi channel 10? Clock sync on? Not super familiar with the workings of the TD-3 but what happens if you start the rhythm on the RC-5 first? Reason I’m asking is cause you would have to have a loop bpm and / or rhythm bpm that is already defined before it sends out the info to sync and start.

I arm a memory BPM (152)..
Midi cable to TD-3 - which only needs the Start/Clk/Stop bit of the Midi - when I stomp the Rec starts but no TD-3..
I’m going to try setting a Rhythm up and running on the RC-5 and see if I can “drop-in”.. 🤔

Hello, I really like what you do on your channel, congratulations. I would love if you could help me with a problem that I am encountering on the rc-500 loop station. Do you know if I can change the memory number in another way other than using the knob? I mean, change it with one of the pedals, I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
Yes certainly l. You can change any of the 3 buttons or use an external button in the form of an FS6 or FS7 or even a midi pedal. You can program it up to be memory up or down. 👌
Go to Memory>Control and here you can change the 3 main buttons or the Ctrl 1&2.
Of if you are using a midi pedal go to Memory>Assign and you can use one of the 8 assigns to control the midi button.

Great video! Just a question, I've recorded a loop with a simple beat on my rc500 but when I exported the track there was no beat just the vocal and guitar
That’s a great question. Yes the beat is internal and you would have to record it manually, which I know is a bit of a pain but isn’t a file you can extract from the RC-500 directly.

Hello John Paul. I have tried to do it on my RC 600, but without success. I connected my rc 600 unit (1.21 version) to my PC and downloaded the latest version of boss tone studio for windows, however I never get the disconnect-import-export options available. Could you give me some advice? Thanks in advance
Hi, John, do you know why the imported files go into overload once you play them through the amp?
Are you playing it through a guitar amp? If so, you need to use the guitar amps fx send and return instead of plugging it in where you would do for your guitar. Cause it’s making the looper louder twice, once with the pre amp and then again with the power amp of the box.
Plug the output of the plug a guitar cable into the Amp FX ‘send’. Then plug the other end into the INPUT of the looper. Then plug a second cable into the output of the looper and the other end into the ‘return’. This means the looper won’t be effected by any of the effects directly inside the amp and should sound a lot better.

Hi there, I have a specific question, didn’t know if you could help, as I’ve not been able to find any answers online. I have the Boss RC-10R looper pedal. I love creating songs with it using the backing drum tracks on there and using the “sync” feature so it’s always sync’d up. I recently learned (also thanks to you), that you can import way better sounding drum loops. I’m considering purchasing some loops from Yurt Rock. My only question/concern is, if I can successfully import the new drum tracks, can I still build/create layered songs using the “sync” feature with the imported tracks? I hope that makes sense. Again, basically just trying to find out if the sync feature still works with imported tracks. Any help would be much appreciated. Really dig your channel by the way 👍
hey, thx for the video! I have a RC-500 and have created a loop with one of the build-in stock rhythm tracks/beats and I'm having trouble understanding how to export the loop WITH the rhythm/drums? Any idea? thx!
With the RC500, you can transfer the audio but the beat is in a separate pert of the machine that doesn’t get exported. Its internal.
To have it you will literally have to play it and record it into a DAW and then chop it up.
Alternatively, if it’s only going to be used on the RC500, then grab the memory information from the RC500’s brain and that will retain the info of which rhythm it is and what tempo etc.
Or write it down with the audio so you don’t forget.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK okay, thanks for that! I kinda remember accidentally recording the drums on a loop. For instance, I could be misremembering but I think I was in 'Multi' mode and had the loop & beat recorded on track one but then hit record on track 2 and it included the drums?
This thing is so cool. Too bad I can't get mine to do what I want. I am so frustrated right now with this rc500 and rc5 I'm about ready to throw them out the window. I know it can be done I just don't know how to get there. All I want to do is run the two units together just for backing tracks.
All of my backing tracks get boiled down to one input on the PA. If I can get this running I will be able to control the volume of each individual track. Before it hits the PA. Plus I can split up my signal a little bit with this as well. The 500 going to a backline bass rig and front of house. And the 5 will be fed back into IEM with click track.
I have the TRS MIDI cable. But I am a total noob when it comes to MIDI . And BOSS it seems as if they go out of their way to make it difficult when it comes to dealing with their little screens from the 80s they're manuals are not very clear at all. I need some HELP with this can anyone give me any direction please.
This would be a good idea for a video. Whatsoever for this specific situation. I know JP has a few things that led me in the right direction but I'm still not getting the results I want. Again I think it's the MIDI thing I'm having the trouble with.🤔

Have you ever used an Airstep controller with a looper?
I’ve used the FS-1-WL from Boss and the IK Multimedia BlueBoard. So I know the concept of Airstep, yes.

Thank you John Paul .....i assume i could load say a four minute drum track onto track two with a count in and then set the loop to end at the end of the drum track? So basically just a one shot deal?

@@JohnPaulMusicUK thanks man .....one problem im having is updating the firmware on my pc and another is when i tried to load a wav is said it was large.....it's an HQ WAV is that why? Also it says connecting when in storage mode but never connects🤔.....i think i might just buy your how to series on this.

You can use Boss’ RC Tone studio which is free but the Best option is John (moose) Taylor’s amazing RC Editor. So good!

You don't mention the rhythm/drums. Can they be exported/imported with the track?
That’s fair enough. Yes they are saved with the memory so if you transfer them, the rhythm beat you pick is saved with that memory. 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Not for me are they saved! I’m going from RC5 to RC500 I have tried several times and the drum/rhythm is not saved! Tempo is. What about the files in the Data folder?

Great video! one question. I've imported a full audiofile of 116 bpm and followed your steps turning loop synch off on the track. when I change the bpm to the actual bpm of the track it does still alternate the sound of the backing track. not as much as without loop synch turned on but still doesn't sound right. any idea?
Hello. You need to make sure that you loop sync and tempo sync both off when you import the track.
This will help in your scenario .

The memory was empty. I set it to 116 bpm. Turned Loop Synch off on track 1 and also SW. then saved the memory 5. connected to the Boss Tone Studio and imported the audio file to track 1. disconnected and when playing track 1 it's not steady...
@@JohnPaulMusicUK when I put my project back to 100.3 bpm (the bpm that was autogenerated when importing the audio file even though it is 116) it plays correctly
Any idea how to change ordinary wav files to 32bit floating point as it wont recognise my files
If you use something like Audacity, import the file and then you can re-export from there. 👍🏻

Importing and playing my backing tracks using the Bosstone Studio for RC, I randomly get drop outs or pops during some of the song(s) and wondering whats going on? For now all of my backing tracks are bounced to 24bit at 44.1k. Seems to me that it should be able to handle it, so wondering why I'm getting these random glitches? I also delete and re-import the track(s) and it's sporadic where the drop-outs or 'pops' in my backing tracks are. When I open the bounced wav files in iMusic or any other player or DAW to listen back to make sure the bounces were good, they play back without any flaws. I thought originally that it was my 'used' RC5, so I went and bought a brand new one so I could A/B them and the exact same thing happens. I updated the firmware on both too. Is this just an RC5 thing? Thoughts? I don't have this problem with my old Jam Man Stereo, it works great but was hoping for a smaller pedal profile to use as a one shot. Any info would be appreciated. I have some tour dates in Europe coming up in about 2 weeks and would like to rectify this, or go back to what I know that actually works. Thanks.
Could be because I was only listening to songs through the app and it's glitchy? I haven't tested plugging the RC5 through an amp yet to see if the problems are still there. Trying that today though. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.
