Great video. Thank you for sharing. I was hoping you may still have the tank dimensions on the one you ordered as I am having the same issue with my 2000 Ciera 2355. I wanted to get it ordered as it looks like 2-3 weeks lead time on the tank and I have not started cutting yet. Thank you
Fixing to start on my 99 Ciera 2355 unfortunately. Did you find a tank source that worked out for you? I was going to get mine out and go from there but seems I could be more proactive than that.
Thanks so much Gene You did a Great Job on the project !!!, Your video sure helped us with our boat Bayliner Ciera that is leaking fuel !! If you could send us the length of the fuel tank that would help us a lot !! Take care and Happy Boating !!!
Thank you for the video, realy help me with my problem. I have a question for you. Can air pass betwen the floor and the sides of the tank compartement, looking at your video I see there is no glue betwen the walls and under the floor.
I used 5200 to secure the rubber mounts to the bottom of the compartment. Some air can get under the tank, but I wonder if the air gap should have been larger.
i know hindsight is a wonderful thing (thanks to u we now know) but wouldnt it have been easier to cut out that rotted area and weld a new section in ?
I know this is old...but do you remember if you left a drain from the fuel compartment to the engine compartment. About to do this myself. Great video...
One more question now that I'm at the point where the compartment is all ground out and ready for the new stringers...did you "free float" the new tank and just use those blocks to secure it or did you set the tank onto wet resin on top of the new stringers? Thanks man. So far in my process for my 1990 bayliner 2556 is spot on!
Great job. I know it was a while back, but I wanted to ask how you made the holes in your tank, because I need to mangle my tank out and though its been rinsed I figure power tools are a bad idea. Hammer? Thanks again. Luckily my tank is loose in the area, just too big to get out without structure removal beyond my comfort level
We were out on the Chesapeake Bay this week in our 1996 Bayliner 2355. We filled up at Wallace's Bait and tackle headed out for the Third Island. When we got back my wife smelled gas in the anker locker? The Marina pulled out boat and we found a cup of gas in the bilge. I had replaced the sending unit two months ago. I figured it leaked out of there. I put some good oil/gas gasket sealer on the screws and gasket.. I figure i will fill it up and check again. After watching your video again. It's got me worried. Update 08/2021 Mine is leaking.. I am debating in pulling the motor out and slide it out that way. What do you think. I have access to a large fork lift. I had the engine out last year. Any advise?
It works going out the cabin. One thing that might be easier is to not grind down the old bulkhead all the way. Leave a lip and clean it out. Then glass in the new bulkhead in the old channel. I had rot into the main stringers and put in some West Marine epoxy in a caulking tube. It's thick. I probably should have done more of that.
Really cool of you to post this up. REALLY nice job. Looks like nothing ever happened on the inside and better than stock in the engine bay. Just wondering.. what did the marina quote you for cost, compared to how much you spent? I don't have a boat right now, but I bookmarked this for the future ( if I need to do this on my next boat... looking at 2006 325's right now). I too have watched all of Frisco Jarrett's videos of him redoing his SeaRay 22' and WOW!
The marina wanted $7,000 and I think they would have asked for more when they saw the bulkhead had to be replaced. I had the boat for 13 years and never heard that belly tanks tend to go bad. If you buy an old boat with a belly tank, be sure to check it out. Another good site for fiberglass is boatworkstoday.com. Good luck on getting a boat.
Hello everyone; this is Gene. I had to open a new account because of double verification. I don't have access to my old phone and old email that was used for this account. I'll leave this video alone (can't even delete it) and transfer it to my new account - Eugene Magee. If you liked this video and subscribed, please subscribe again on the new account. I plan to add more videos with the idea of being clear and concise. I need to show the RUclips folks that the channel has a following. Thanks.
Hi Eugene. . Great video . I have a 2355 . Think i may have same issue . If the engine was out of boat do you think it would be possible to remove tank from engine bay side . The tank looked like such a tight fit that i am not sure you could get enough purchase on it it to slide it out after seeing that spud bar loaded up . I think my starting point may be to cut out top half of the rear bulkhead out and see if my tank has failed in the same area as yours . If so try to repair the area and refit the bulk head and leave some inspection holes in bulkhead to monitor the area . Thanks again for such a great informative video . Merry christmas. Kind regards Mat. from NSW AUS
I have the same boat, a Bayliner 2355, with the same problem (tank leak). How can I find a replacement tank? The label has worn off of my tank. Is there a part number picture source you can recommend to buy this tank? Please please please advise! Thanks!
Hi Gene, Quite an amazing feat to have replaced that tank and bulkhead having never attempted that kind of work before. I would imaging you must be handy in other kinds of construction. The finish results were great; I cant imaging the marina could have done any better and possibly may have cut some corners where you did not. I have a Bayliner 215BR, 2006 and so far so good except for a little softening along the edge of the deck storage compartment. I'm wondering if your boat is in salt or fresh water and if it is kept in the water or stored on the trailer?
I just changed out mine. No where could I find the measurements of the tank. 1996 Cierra 2355 39"wide. 48"long Ends 4.5"thick Center is 8.5"thick I ordered a tank 2"thicker. It is about 70gallons. Barely fit threw the art cabin door way.
Is that wood? Is there wood under the fiberglass you removed??? Does bayliner build their boats with wood and just cover it with fiberglass? Awesome video!!! I would appreciate a reply ;)
Great video. I am unfortunately having the same problem with my 1997 ciera 2355. I could not locate the manufacturer of the new tank you mentioned. Could you please provide name, & phone/and or address. Also, did you consider some other material for the tank other than aluminum. Thank you.
@@heyu7185 Henry, I haven't checked this video in a while, since I sold the boat. I don't have records on the new tank dimensions, but I remember a few things. I'd be sure to cut open the deck ahead of ordering the tank to be sure you know the space dimensions. I had most of the winter to do the work, so I removed the tank and then did the template for the new one. I remember leaving about an inch all around to be sure some odd-built surface didn't allow the tank to sit nicely. That still gave me enough room for a bigger tank. Gene
Thanks so much for this! It really helped us with replacing our tank on our Ciera 2655. You did a great job!
Gene where did yiu purchase your tank from?
Very helpful as we have just had a fuel tank leak on our 2355
very well done sir. You did an awesome job with that tank. and thanks for sharing.

Hi Deborah,
Are you still requiring fuel tank dimensions/length?
Wow! What a feat! Awesome job! Thank you for sharing.
I have to do the same thing to my boat Great video lots of useful information for me thank you.
So we're you able to get the tank out through the cabin, if so why did you cut the bulkhead out???

Excellent description and video
Hello, is the original tank made of Steel, Aluminium or Stainless Steel Please?
What a nightmare, great job
I know this is old...but do you remember if you left a drain from the fuel compartment to the engine compartment. About to do this myself. Great video...
I didn't include a drain. That's a good idea to flush out sediment.

Nevermind...just watched the video again...5200...great stuff.

What year was the boat? You never said.

Yes wood covered with chop strand mat and polyesther redin.

Very good !!! Tnkx

boat was 2013 and tank failed in 2014? should be a warranty issue
It was built in 1998.
