The most or one of the most underrated movies of the 80s. Still stands the test of time. Watched it for the first time in a long time the other day. Great cinematography as well....for the cinefiles out there...
This film will make you feel like you're living in 1957-58. Outstanding !! 17 is a very short life but Richie crammed a lot in it those last two years.
I remember seeing this movie when it first came out in the theatre in 1987. I was just about to start music ( guitar ) college. What an inspiration to pursue my music career!
In my humble opinion, this movie is one of the greatest Oscars snubs of all time. I just watched this movie the other day and I’m still dumbfounded how this film received no Oscar nominations. I’m not saying that Lou Diamond Phillips went on to be come a perennial Oscar darling but, geez, after this performance, how could he not have been nominated? Nothing against William Hurt in Broadcast News but that performance was not as iconic as Lou Diamond Phillips as Ritchie Valens, not by a long shot.
I was 13 when I saw this movie still love it reason I started playing guitar still play have travelled from from Australia and visited Ritchie Valens and Buddy Hollys graves to pay my respects been to the surf ballroom where they played their last concert and plane crash site they were legends
I love this movie. Best movie of all time. What a legend. But I hate this movie. It makes me cry every single time. Love love love Richie Valens’s music.
You know my mom did say that she liked this movie. We do remember seeing bits and bits of it on tv long time ago. You know the drama between Richie and bob where very dramatic. I mean they might have had a lot of ups and downs and differences. But it did seem that bob cared a lot about his little brother. I saw the ending and it really was a sad ending. I haven’t seen The Whole movie. But I’m Not going to spoil anything

Bob Keene , Ritchie's manager, is portrayed as a nice guy in this movie but he was a crook. He withheld royalties owed to Ritchie until the family had to sue. At the premire of the movie, he showed up and Ritchie's family had him escorted out. They never did get all the money owed to them.. Keene didn't buy the house they lived in .. He only made payments while Ritchie was alive. The 58 Thunderbird was in his name so he kept it. He had agreed to pay the family 10,000 dollars a month in back royalties but made excuses when they asked about the money. Del Fi Records was co- owned by mobsters. Bobby Fuller, another artist under contract with Keene, died under mysterious circumstances after he told Keene that he was signing with another label. Fuller was found in his Mother's car in the driveway of her home soaked in gasoline. Rolling Stone magazine ran an article on it later . The police ruled it a suicide after the evidence including the gas can was removed from the scene. Other artists on the Del Fi label were scared to leave Keene. After the label ceased to exist , Keene died suddenly. The artists signed with other labels. Their names were not listed in the Rolling Stone article so you have to speculate who Keene had under contract.
@@zombieboah3152 possibly but he definitely played a hand in Bobby Fuller's death. However, Ritchie was still making money and his death was accidental so Keene wouldn't have had a reason to want rid of him

RIP and long live Ritchie Valens (May 13, 1941 - February 3, 1959), aged 17
You will always be remembered as a legend.
Like the song says, it was the day the music died.
One of the very best movies ever he should have get a Oscar for his role
Is that a tropic thunder quote?

Ok but why did celebrities from 60s to 00s get on planes. Did they not know their odds were bad.

It was either that or continue to go hundreds of miles on a bus that kept breaking down with a shot heating system in the dead of winter.
I name my daughter Danna cause this movie but with an A cause in spanish is donut
Pigs let your still super perfect
One question: why did a Fillipino play Valens and not a Mexican?
If it didn’t bother Ritchie’s family, it shouldn’t bother anyone else. Besides, I read that Lou does have a bit of Spanish heritage through his mother and his father was part Native American, just like Ritchie was.

It's fuckin' annoying watching a movie commercial with an ad in it.
