I just got a batch of epsilon switches and about 90-95% seem to have the ticking issue as well. The ticking definitely comes from the stem hitting some part of the top housing. You can replicate it with a bare switch by pushing/tapping the stem away (south?) from the pins. Lubing the top housing (all 4 sides/corners) solved it for me. I suggest a medium/heavy application on the top housing. Going light will resolve the ticking when you press keys regularly but I was able to replicate a slight ticking by pushing on the stem or with a keycap at the right angle. Hope this works for you and anyone else. I didn't think the ticking would be that big of a deal but once you hear it you can't un-hear it.
I was contemplating on wether I should get the epsilon or the new Boba LT, decided to get the LT and noticed the same ticking problem and some switches had binding issues. The amount of regret I felt was so painful lmao and I was ready to just buy some epsilon and give the LT to my brother. But turns out the epsilon also has the same issue lol, which softens my buyer's remorse and impulse, however on my LT no matter the amount of lube I use on the top housing there's still ticking on some switches, which sucks lol. How do you lube the top housing though? I put a dollup of lube on the notches where the stem meets the top housing.
@@yannickjulien154 I believe the Boba LT ticking issue is a manufacturing issue with the pole of the stem. I tried a few ways to lube the epsilon top housing and it seems that it's not the notches but the "front" & "back" of the face of the stem. I did those areas alone and it seemed to work without touching the notches or the rails on the stem itself. But one thing to note is that I've only done over a handful and did not remove the factory lube so that might play a role. When I get to lubing/filming the whole set, I will definitely experiment a bit more and see if I could pinpoint where the tick is coming from. A few of the last ones I lubed the entire switch with a light coat and a heavy coat on the top house (all walls, corners, notches). Those seemed to work well while the first few that I went light on (top housing) I can still get to SLIGHTLY tick if I tap it just right. Not sure if over time the tick will return if the lube sort of works its way out of these friction points but only time will tell. I have a 60% keyboard with these switches in (most of them stock) with a few days use and I can say that I really only notice the tick on single presses of the larger keys (shift, enter, etc...). At regular speed it's pretty subtle unless you really listen for it. I will end up lubing and filming all the switches (waiting on some springs) as they do sound better to me that way.
Hmm glad i found this. The quartz has the similar ticking sound with film already. Same thing that I can't figure out where it was coming from. It's kinda annoying
I give up on these switches man. When I bought them I expected them to have a tick. And that didn't bother me, what bothers me is how lose all the keycaps I own fit very loosely on them. Idk if I got a bad batch or what. How tight do your keycaps fit on your Epsilon switches?
Hey, I think ur durock p3 stems(same as in epsilon switch) are scratchy in purple pandas cuz purple pandas have a tactile leaf, which is meant to put more pressure on the stem, which in tactiles make it more tactile but as you’ve discovered makes linears scratchy
Hey Tanukey do you think filming the switches would fix the stem wobble and the ticking? I dont want to pay extra to frank the switches. I love the sound but i think it feels slightly muted idk if its the quiet video audio or the key board. Would removing some of the mods help this? Also, would films help make it higher pitched? I don't want to swap the plate to brass because i like the PC's poppy sound. Im not sure what plate your using so i dont know if you have like something really muted. Could you please do a solution in your next vid?
The switches in the video are all filmed and lubed, so I don't think filming will solve the problem. Both Ink black V2s and Epsilon switches sound muted without the pe foam on my keyboard. I am using a pc plate for my keyboard too. However there is a silicone mute pad between the pc plate and the pcb since it's how the KBD67 lite works. I will make a sound test without the silicone mute pad and see the results!
Overall, frankenswitching is the only option I can think about to fix the stem wobble and the ticking sound. If you're looking for a higher pitched one, try other switches such as the tangerines which is also really smooth and has a higher pitch sound profile.

Wow, I will definitely give it a shot! Thanks for your suggestions!

@@muckeyn Hey, got an update on the switches? Did the lube wear off and ticking come back to normal?
@@maximebalthazard2513 it’s still holding up.
I fricking love ur intro it sounds good

I have the same experience with quartz and it's very annoying on mods especially. Have you figured it out?

They are not purple pandas btw
Subbed!
The audio is way too quiet. I have to max out my phone's volume to hear even a little bit.
my bad!
Thoughts on epsilon p3 stem and lav jwk switch mix?would that work to keep the base epsilon sound dig as its both nylon housing
Try lubing the top housing. Supposedly it fixes it
In the scratchy techno violet housing and epsilon stem mix, did you lube it? And, is this mix as smooth as the original?
Durock POMs have the same issue in my experience, and i heard that the epsilon has the same stem, so.....
0:08 this should be every keyboard sound be like

You think that just filming regular epsilon’s will remove the problem?
All switches are filmed in my videos!
Do you know where u got the duck from? I neeeeed it
Are the black inksilon's smoother than the epsilons or is it scratchier?
It feels as smooth as the epsilons. However the ticking still exist.
Is it the leaf that is fixing the ticking or is it the housing that is fixing the ticking?
I think it's the housing that is fixing the ticking.
its hard to tell from the video. is the ticking coming from the leaf?
I believe it's coming from the stem wobble. You can check my other video for more information.
The switch should be called the black inksilon
Good name!
Or epsiblack
Imagine calling this switch like inksilon
Inksalons
