In the 1990s a slogan for British Gas was "Don't you love being in control?" referring to the controlabilty of gas when you cook on an open stove, compared to electric. Harry and Kathy made a great point of that in this sketch. Boomer, you are an honorary Brit. Our humour comes easy to you, and that's enough to qualify you. You'd fit in anywhere in the UK.
Well said. 100% agree,
You missed the part about them (British Gas ) having showrooms to sell cookers and other gas appliances .
kathy burke is one of englands finest actresses, not only is she brilliant in any comedy role she does, she is also gut wrenchingly raw in the number of grim british films she's done. You and QB would love Gimme Gimme Gimme. its shocking you havent reacted to it yet because its so far up your street its parked in the drive lol. give it a go man im 100% sure you'd love it.
Kathy Burke! Comedy genius!
Yes it is the geordie guy. Look for Gimme Gimme Gimme starring Kathy Burke. Queen Boomer will love it.
Not a Geordie in real life though born near Carlisle,
PLLLLEEEEAAAASSSEEE watch gimme gimme gimme, Kathy Burke is in it, it's brill, think you'd love it!!
Has anyone ever suggested " The Fast Show" ? Same type of humour but with lots of different characters featuring Paul Whitehouse
So many times, but he never sees the comments, or just ignores them. I guess there's too many suggestions to cover everything. He'll get there eventually.
Escorchio
It's great the fast show innit?. Isn't the fast show fab?.😂
Many many times…
@@user-py5ct1go2snice!
Yes, you are correct. it is the Geordie (Michael) from I'm Alan Partridge. Otherwise known as Simon Greenall.
Simon Greenall is also the voice of Alexander and Orlov in the Meerkat ads.
@@user-py5ct1go2swow! That's interesting.
but in this sketch he's gone yorkshire-ish

"I might have to lean towards Kathy Burke..."
.
Ooooo! Young man!!
😉
These were called The Lovely Wobbly Randy Old Ladies
Harrys Enfield ‘substantially Richer than you”
Sketches where Kathy Burke gets glammed up
The slobs winning the lottery what what😂
Considerably richer*
& moved onto Harry's "boutique" i saw you coming😂& hedgehog was a character in bottom!
Kathy Burke and Harry Enfield; legendary comedy actors!
Bloody hell that is Geordie from Alan Partridge. Didnt realise til you said it sounds like him
Aye!
And he's got a disarmingly non Geordie, slightly posh accent IRL
Aye - also Sergei from the Meerkat adverts.
It's the work geordie!
With gas man in mind, you ought to watch/react to the 'Gas' (Series 1 ep.2) episode of 'Bottom' (Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson, plus Brian Glover as Mr. Rottweiler).
Boomer finished Bottom just last week, it's on his Patreon. Series 1-3.
Kathy and Harry are great together and "Kevin and Perry Go Large" is their best work
Ooooh Young Maaaan!
Yes, it's the superb Simon Greenall.
Its is Michael the Geordie from AP
Yeah, he's the work Geordie
I would also like to see 'King Boomer' react to 'Gimme Gimme Gimme,' starring Kathy Burke and James Dreyfus. I would also be interested to see Queen Boomer react as well. Maybe when their daughter is a bit older.
That line that Harry uses ...
Don't you love been in control
Was actually from an advert made by British gas ..
When (not sure they still do) British Gas had showrooms that obs sold gas to customers but also cookers etc .
ooooh young man
Hey King boomer.. Kathy Burke is a legend.. very diverse in alot of her acting.. comedy and drama. But her most famous comedy act is Gimme Gimme Gimme .. it a must watch.. with James Dreyfus another great actor.. Kathy Burke has also worked with French and Saunders.. esp as Bananarama. They are another iconic comedy duo.
Yep, as others have said, it's the guy from Alan Partridge. As soon as you said that I recognized the voice, well spotted.
👍🏼 That is indeed Michael that worked at the hotel first and then the petrol station.
Yes, that’s Simon Greenall, who plays Michael the Geordie in I’m Alan Partridge. He’s in a number of Harry Enfield shows and several other sketch comedy shows. He was also briefly in Plebs and Benidorm.
As for the best comedy pairing, it’s way too close to call. But you really need to see Harry & Kathy as Wayne & Waynetta Slob.
Yes he is the guy in Alan Partridge. He's the janitor... yes, Geordie...
"If I were 30 yrs younger" used to be a favourite (UK) 😋
I class you as a interpreter between the pond . Top man
Ps. Have you seen any sketches of Harry and Paul doing Smashy and Nicey based on 2 real life dj's on pirate radio ships from the 1960's and 70's. This was when they had ships moored up offshore just outside British waters where they had radio stations broadcasting music and advertisements outside of British broadcasting rules and regulations. They were hilarious, especially in context with the real characters. Absolutely priceless.
Those sketches were funmungous in a fantabulous-type way.
Shame they didn't make saville walk the plank even back in the 60's
The is a Peabody Estate in N/London where we were refurbishing property's on and spending about 7 weeks in each home. One of the residents was quite elderly who wore a tonne of make up and would walk about bra-less wearing a tight t-shirt showing nipples that were at the side of the boobs and tight cycling shorts on, making obscene sexual innuendo's at every single word spoken. The best part is, they were Trans. The look on the guys faces when we would do our inspections was priceless. Big burly Romanian guys pleading to be placed on another property was just one of the funniest things I have come across in ages.
Kathy Burke in "Nil by mouth" if you haven't seen it.
Incredible performance by her in that film.
I'd go for a third option for best pairing. Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer on Gone Fishing. Not a comedy, just two old blokes going fishing and talking shit, but they are great together. Nice to see men just doing man stuff with no bother. And the rivers they fish in are beautiful
"Just caught the UK Gold special celebrating 30 years of the classic slapstick comedy show Bottom! It's a riot! Would be awesome to hear what folks across the pond in the States think of this iconic series!"
That's a bloody hard question
Besides the Gas Man actor Simon Greenall appearing in Alan Partridge, he also played the heavily made-up Caretaker in the kids TV adventure game-show Trapped! His voice, as well as his appearance, is radically different again in that.
Yes, that was such a good call on the Geordie guy ! I didn't hear it until you pointed it out. Kathy Burke is just brilliant.
Being in Control with the thumbs up used to the old British Gas slogan. And they used to be a trio so can't pick and it is the Geordie from Alan Partridge lol should show this to Queen Boomer lol
HELLO MISTER *GASSSS MANNNNNN!!!!*
The Geordie also does the voices for a very successful ad campaign for Compare the Meerkat
The Geordie character (Michael) is played by Simon Greenall and is in fact in both seasons of I’m Alan Partridge. He’s also in the ‘Van Drivers Lament’ musical sketch in the Harry & Paul series 😂
Timeless comedy Harry and Cathy and Paul are a trilogy.
There are so many things you aren't getting, from the outset, 'have I come too early?' Did you not get that? Then smelling the gas, and their pipework, and the best bit, 'I just get my to.....spanners (he did not want to say his tools (tool being slang for his knob). I once showed this to a bunch of year 5s (grade 4 in the US). I just remembered to 'young man', I had totally forgotten about the plethora of double entendres. Mind you, those who 'got them' died laughing.
Possibly the inspiration for Paul Whitehouse's randy old tailors in The Fast Show? Substitute "Young man!" for "Suits you sir!".
It is the same actor from Alan Partridge, the Geordie guy, his name is Simon Greenall.
I'm not sure if King Boomer has reacted to full episodes of 'Fawlty Towers; but if he hasn't, I'd like to see it.
Simon Greenall.... the voice of the meerkats advert here in the UK
"Don't you just love being in control?" was the advertising slogan for British Gas at the time this sketch was recorded.
Yes, the Geordie is SImon James Greenall. He is also the voice of Aleksandr in the Compare the Market adverts. Good spot.
Have you reacted to the slobs yet? Start at the beginning if you do, not at the lottery one.
Thank you for mentioning this!! I've seen so many reaction channels do the lottery sketch, which doesn't make much sense without watching the previous ones.
"Have I come too early" ....ye it's definitely the Geordie from AP
It IS 'the guy from the petrol station' , Michael (Simon Greenall)
Yes, he is the Geordie from Alan Partridge.
Your thinking of Michael the work Geordie….ya never had a mug o’beans, aye ya in for a treat!!
One of my neighbours and I always greet each other with “Young man?” answered by “Young man.” (drawn out)
RECOMMENDED, Watch the IT CROWD bloopers n outtakes ,hilarious watching them all uncontrollabley laughing take after take
Love the reaction and love Harry & Kathy. BTW, they're called the "Lovely Wobbly Randy Old Ladies"
It is the same guy ...Simon Greenall....he's a fellow Cumbrian, to be fair we frequently get mistaken for Geordies and in Alan Partige he's is deliberately being Geordie
Simon Greenall played the gas man in this scene
When these sketches went out, a lot of people shouted “Oooh Young Maaan!” at workmen all the time!
Always remember the sketch that’s goes some, thing like “butter is up again”, “what are you watching, the stock exchange?”, “NO, Last Tango In Paris!”.
He wants to lean towards Kathy Burke....Ooh, the naughty young man, what would Queen Boomer say!
He can't pick between Kathy Burke and Paul Whitehouse, the greedy young man!
Yes, Mr. Partridge, sir.
Have I come too early?
Young man!
😂😂😂😂 Used to quote this as a kid, so inappropriate.
2:00 Lester Piggott = famous veteran jockey. Started as a teenager in the 1950s. Later went to prison for tax evasion.
Young man!
Lol yes he is a Geordie from Newcastle. And he IS the actor in I'm Alan Partridge! Simon Greenall.
When Kathy Burke refers to his "bulge" and then says "it reminds me of a young Desert Orchid" she was referring to a well known racehorse that ran many races in the 90's.
Young man 😂
Both Kathy and Paul have great comic chemistry with Harry 👍
Well done I wouldn’t have noticed that the pictures so bad
Its the work geordie!
On pairings it's horses for courses, but Kathy Burke is a serious straight actress who does comedy well and Paul Whitehouse is just funny all the time, even in real life.
not geordie from petrol station .. and the quote from harry enfield ... i love being in control is a quote from british gas .. the irony gets me .
Have you watched the BBC 90’s comedy ‘Bottom’ yet. There is an episode called the gasman. It’s funny 😂
Yes, the Gas Man is the same actor as Michael the Geordie in I'm Alan Partridge. Well spotted KB!
That's the same guy from Alan Partridge.
You spotted him, you win a Cupid doll, he plays a geordie in Alan Partridge
Right again king boomer ! He is the Geordie ex army man in I'm Alan Partridge, also you don't seem to have done the slobs wayne and waynetta from harry enfield , harry and kathy in full swing
How big was that Battenberg at 4:55?!
Hello! I don't comment much, but I come by often. Love all the Brit comedy you've been doing!
The Geordie with a cup of beans!
Usually the Young Man is a lot younger lol
Sounds like you're a bit of a granny-magnet yourself King Boomer 😂
Kathy Burke is great in Gimme Gimme Gimme. Some of the jokes and references are about UK celebrities and life can sometimes go over foreign audience's heads but there's still plenty to laugh about. The Thin Blue Line would be another good show that is worth a look. As a kid I always used to like Men Behaving Badly too. Coupling was also a pretty good show that might appeal to Lady Boomer. Just some shows I could think of off the top of my head. I'm still hoping you might give Celebrity Juice a go - the only thing is that its a pretty long show.
Can I ask why the “extreme” widescreen? Halve it KB.
RUclips just suggested I rewatch your first reaction to Bo Selecta next. Is there any way of persuading Lady Boomer to go back? I know she loved it deep down, even though it weirded her out!
Excellent video… you really need to check out “The Fast Show” which features Paul Whitehouse and many others… it’s a great show :)
Whos the better pairing...?
That like trying to pick your favourite child!
Thank you Young King!
And please don't make me pick pairings, to me they are all equal 'chums'
Cherrs Sir
Just an aside, Kathy Burke isn't just funny, she's a fantastic actress. Her best role is probably in Nil By Mouth (she stars opposite Ray Winstone), which won her Best Actress at the 1998 Canne film festival. It's a pretty tough watch, and apparently still holds the record for "most uses of the word 'cunt' in a film" (82), and 428 uses of 'fuck' and it's derivatives, in a run timeof 128 minutes, so it would be a bitch to edit for a RUclips reaction.
Which pairing is better? A hard choice but Kathy Burke gets it for me only because Kevin the teenager (and Perry) which are my favourite sketches
Hey u guys if u wanna watch the female version of The Inbetweeners uk its called Some Girls
Did you watch the kevin and Perry film ? Was it giving it large ?
You need to look out Private Eye Year in Review 2023 for lots of Harry Enfield content. Will introduce you to Ian Hislop too, the editor of Private Eye. Joy awaits!
Ian Hislop has single-handedly ruined 'Private Eye' and made it a partisan unfunny (ironically) joke.
@DarkAngel459 what? It's doing better than ever and they must take credit for pursuing injustices over long periods like the Post Office subpostmasters scandal.
You should watch The Mighty Boosh and the League of Gentlemen (BBC) if you haven’t already. Different level those two.
You're my wife now.have suggested these but boomer videos are much better with the queen.they were shocked, almost speechless at episode 1 of no select a so I think boost & l of g might be a bit beyond them!they love inbetweeners(which personally i didn't rate as highly as the reactors)but suggested Friday night dinner.as well as absolutely fabulous, royle family, early doors,French & saunders,Mitchell & webb,a bit of fry & laurie,Armstrong & miller & on & on
Definitely Harry and Kathy for me.
Try ‘Green Wing’ very funny
Please please do a review on the TV bottom
Check out harry enfield and chums Lulu and Harry - hilarious
Young man
defanately needs to watch the fast show and ruddy hell its harry and paul
