- How Apple Music Is Stealing Spotify?
Spotify and Apple Music are one of the greatest and most famous companies in the world, valued at Billion of dollars, the companies is by large one of most growing service providers over the last years. But with all, this the competition isn't that fair, and problems between the 2 are reaching higher levels. With Apple backing Apple Music over Spotify on the iPhone and Apple devices and giving it advantages, Spotify left no choice just to raise their prices.

Spotify: Time to play fair Apple
Apple: Ok, how much do you pay your artist?
Spotify: 😐
Karma I guess 😅
They all pay artists the same lol. Only ignorant people complain about artist payouts.
Do some research and stop calling yourself out loud
@@RiqMoranthey don’t pay all artists the same amount. If only… even so, the amount artists get is laughable.
@@PhilippeCorthout thats a myth. people just dont understand the business model. the anount the artist gets is ultimately decided by how much you yourself pay more than anything else, not the platform.
1: there would be no point apple paying 30%, it would just go straight back to them so ofc they don't, that would be illogical
2: Spotify does work with Siri for iOS and MACOS, just not for Homepod
3: Google litreally installs YT music on every Pixel and Chrome book branded device
4: Spotify is a pretty bad company in General towards consumers
5:Spotify will fail regardless as instead of giving everyone what they want (high quality music, good in the car options, Kareoke mode and More), Spotify is just adding features that nobody asked for (AI mode??) and bricking peoples devices (Car Thing)
Your comment is more accurate than the whole video and summarize clearly the Spotify situation
1. yeah makes sense
2. he mentioned it DIDNT work with siri/macos at the start (which i dont blame them)
3. people use default apps (outside of MSEdge) and would rather not have their phone cluttered with multiple apps with similar functions, so being the "default" preinstalled app already gives them an edge. Its their phone, software, and ecosystem so its just business but i can understand their worries.
4. idk much about the company's moralities but if theyve been true to their 70%/30% distribution plan then they cant be that bad. if youre referring to the price increase it was already explained in the video.
5. i agree they should bring more features people will actually enjoy.
plus: you can delete Apple Music from iPhone, but not YT Music from Android
@angelospapageorgiou you can 100% delete youtube music you can't delete RUclips from Android
wait, seriously? I thought android was about being free and giving more choice to consumers?
i think apple music is good rather than spotify
The reason I stick to Apple Music is actually really simple. Apple Music Sing (I think is what it's called) lets you remove the vocals of some songs, which as a singer (hopefully) is really neat.
I believe the rate eventually drops to 15% after about a year. I understand that Spotify operates on thin margins, so a 15-30% cut is substantial. However, the fact remains that you're using Apple's App Store to host your app. Any other platform would charge a similar, if not higher, fee. The underlying issue is that Spotify's business model isn't sustainable. They give a large portion of their revenue to record labels and depend on operating system providers like Apple, Google, and Microsoft to make their app accessible. Apple has invested billions into developing its operating systems and App Stores, so it's unrealistic to expect them to offer Spotify a free marketplace. I think Apple is just an easy target rather than going after the labels who take 70% who are then the ones who screw over the artists. But, the labels provide a lot of funding to Spotify so they aren't going to bite the hand that feeds them.
I think it’s scummy that Apple made it where Spotify couldn’t even mention in there app that customers could pay from a website
Yep, Apple allow payements only through App Store
the greediness that Apple showed toward Spotify, should've made us steer clear from them.
thanks for this informtion bro keep up
Hope Spotify can find a way to keep up without constantly raising prices.
Apple just better. In features, quality, and functionality.
Sportify should charge ppl to listening music like apple and yt music
btw. google has google assistant which has full support for spotify.
They need to get rid of those podcasts or at least hide them from people who are not interested
Apple has their podcasts on a whole separate app. And its better than spotify so what is even the point of spotify podcasts
I believe applesadvantages are fair(as an apple music user i might be biased)
In business every company watch its own benefits that same happen here between apple and Spotify.
soitify should make smartphone too
😂😂 Naah that's pretty hard
The entire business of streaming platforms is built on shaky ground
That’s why EU changed the law, and mandate Apple to opened up for third party app stores. Dispute of the little success, I really don’t see a point in this. Besides, as an Apple fan boy that pay for some Apple service (actually just one) that I barely use (Netflix also), I don’t see much of a problem on the 30% commission fees. If apples App Store is such a monopolist, what about Windows license? What about Cisco license? (The later one is way more ridiculous, in many ways) but you hear my point. As greedy as Apple is, so is Spotify.
Well that's a point 👌
@@1VONGARD I might have been abit too aggressive that I just realise now. Sorry if anyone get offended by this comment :p
Laughs in Amazon music
Good vid
Well that's just apple, they don't care about your getting scammed (there are literally robux scams, ect.) they care about your Money
google play is the app store that let 9500+ scam apps onto their store last year
I think that Spotify is just complaining too much. Why can’t Apple launch own music streaming service? Also Apple Music has lossless and Dolby Atmos for the same price (maybe even cheaper), but Spotify doesn’t. I think that Spotify needs to make themself better and not just to complain - also Google Play takes the fee too and App Store is just way more secure (So Spotify needs to acknowledge that). Apple Music is designed better, looks better, works better, they know what their customers want, Spotify just adds some features nobody cares about and not much people use (and it costs money and even some of the features are not available everywhere), so they raise the price.
That's actualy a good point
The problem isn't juste from Apple Music, Spotify needs change top to keep itself in the race
Apple music focuses on adding stuff people want (lossless audio, spatial, real radio stations, cheap prices)
Spotify just focuses on stuff that nobody asked for (AI Mode???) and their audio quality hasn't changed in the last 5 years. Sadly Spotify will always win in a lawsuit against apple as Spotify is an EU company.
Spotify definitely has some of their own issues to address but their stance on Apples App Store policies is understandable. The fact that Apple restricts devs from linking outside or even mentioning the ability to describe outside the app does but them at a disadvantage. 30% isn’t too bad on a one time app purchase but on a monthly basis, its quite exploitative in my opinion.
Spotify is just ❤, even though 🍎 has better sound quality, the quality of life features that Spotify provides by things such as Spotify connect etc , just makes it a winner. I've tried using apple music and its just a buggy, frustrating experience even on the mac and iphone devices which should work the best with it
Apple Music is not buggy at all. And the features are just much better. The fact it pays artist more too is just even better to support artist You love. Yes Spotify may be good for a regular person who does not want to pay to listen to music and wants to use ads. But I’ve used Spotify for 4 years and it has always played the same songs over and over again. While Apple Music actually plays every song. Over all I say Apple gets my ❤ it’s just so much better _overall_ . And Your statement about buggy/frustrating experience on Apple devices don’t exist. I use Apple Music everywhere. On the web, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch. There is no bugs to be found. Compared to Spotify, Apple is just 100% better.
i don't think apple is stealing anything, it's just market competition
Yeah, but Apple Music has advantages
@@1VONGARDand…? Advantages are illegal?
That being said, I would like to see Apple self implement a 30% tax on its own apps. Make sure that that goes directly back into improving the ecosystem for third-party apps.
For example, every time somebody pays for an Apple Music subscription 30% of that would go directly into either Spotify or a direct competitor, into music infrastructure within the ecosystem, ie apis.
@@MoffieGirlthat’s not how it works. Comission goes into a blub of money that get’s distributed later on between fields. If apple pays the 30% on itself it means that the 70% they get straight goes into the blob, the other 30% in comission will… you guessed it! Will go into the blob. I’m on apples side on this one
@@1VONGARDokay? That's how you compete..?
I get why Spotify is so upset. It’s hard to compete with a company that not only controls the payment system but also competes directly with you.
Ok but apple don’t control Spotify payment. There is no option to subscribe in Spotify through the AppStore for years and yet apple didn’t banned Spotify from the AppStore like they did with Fortnite so I don’t get why Spotify is being a crybaby.
lmao Spotify couldn’t even give people hifi streaming without upcharging people
they raised their price and still only offer mp3 quality. lol.
@@mapl3mage bullshit company. Like nobody asked for audiobooks and podcast lmao
if they dont have to pay 30% to apple maybe they will do it?
@@rizkyadiyanto7922 because apple is the sole reason they don't make hifi available on android and windows.
@@rizkyadiyanto7922 tidal and amazon music also has to pay the 30% but they also do hifi without charging more so don’t even bring that in
Quality of sound is much better in Apple Music because Apple Music has true lossless audio, when Spotify has something that is much more compressed. Apple Music is just better, it isn’t unfair competition
Exactly. There's honestly zero reason to even use spotify over any other service especially considering the quality is inferior. But people are just ignorant of superior services that cost the same. 🤷♀️
it seems apple music is more convenient than spotify
Do you think so?
Spotify has wider compatibility with Smart speakers and so on. But frankly if you're using an Android phone you can just go on any third-party app store and get inner tune or rimusic. Several others which basically gives you RUclips music for free..
Definitely not. Apple is monopoly
This is too good to be your first RUclips video...
You must be a long-time content creator or something like that...
Very thankful for your comment
Enjoy 🔥
I personally think Spotify is going to fail. I, personally, use Apple Music, and I can tell a sound quality difference. I think the Dolby Atmos/Lossless Audio, + Siri Integration + Spotify Not paying artists enough, is going to make them fail.
I switched to Apple Music 2 months ago BECAUSE of the audio quality. I am sick of the "Spotify HiFi planned" - articles over the last years. Waiting for nothing ... so annoying.
Apple has done a lot of greedy stuff, this isn’t one of them. This is simple competition. If Spotify wants to compete with Apple Music, then they should bring better features.
They are taking %30 from the app store transactions of Spotify, my iSheep friend.
Spotify, apple, and YT make sense.
Isn’t pandora bigger than tidal?
Is Amazon just because it’s part of a prime bundle?
Basically how are you determining best and most used?
I just got it from some websites
I think I need to make more reseach next time
I thinks 30% on subscriptions is unreasonable and abusive to developers. Then to have such restrictions to linking or mentioning payment methods outside of the app is completely exploitative. I know business is business but it really seems anticompetitive.
3:59 third party music apps have been allowed on homepod for a while, this isn’t new
also spotify works with siri just fine lmao
Yes, I said that
Apple lifted most restrictions lately, but Apple Apps still have best integration
As a fangirl who support my favorite artist through music streaming, I'll choose music platform that benefits my fave artist the most.
and that would DEFINETLY NOT be spotify
have you seen/used Tidal? it costs a little more but by far pays artists the most (with Apple Music in second place)
They all pay the same by the way. Just pick the one YOU like best instead of falling for made up narratives about artist pay.
@@RiqMoran actually no, they don’t. spotify pays considerably less than apple music or tidal per stream, and there is plenty of proof available online
@@cassiuscartlandThey literally do
With or without these restrictions from Apple, Spotify will die anyways because it has lower quality music, a smaller library of music and a higher price (when you literally get less!) And even though RUclips Music is a bit more expensive, you get access to it by getting RUclips Premium so you get 2 in 1 and that's pretty fair.
Smaller library? You sure?
@@mattia51296 Yes, 80 million songs on Spotify to 100 million songs on Apple.
Yup. Spotify is doomed to fail. They dont have the help of AAPL GOOG or AMZN to subsidize their operations, and their quality, features, and library lags behind the competition.
I still don't know why Spotify is complaining. Am forced to go to their website Everytime to pay but their prices havent changed since they transition from apple store to their website. Me as customer haven't saved not a single penny. They just greedy. They Need stop crying and be more competitive offer things or prices or bundles that Apple can't do. It's not like they are small company. I have had Spotify for 10yrs since I had a Samsung and now i have iphone and i still have Spotify. I been with iphone since iphone 7. The only thing that has kept me with them for this long is that i have such big collection of songs with them already saved and have so many playlist but if it wasn't for that i would left Spotify or if they went bankrupt i wouldn't missed them. They don't offer anything special and their prices are basically the same as their competitors and they don't excel in anything better then their competitors. Smh.
Brother just switch to apple music. It is better in every way and is not at risk of going bankrupt and going away within the next few years.
Sound quality of Spotify is shit 💩.. and mostly half baked Radio edits.. in my country Apple Music is way cheaper than Spotify..
Music cds shits all over garbage apple music no one should ever go to garbage spotify or apple music
I moved to Apple Music in February of this year. It’s a lot cheaper, has better sound quality, snappier UI, better search, the song queue is fixed now in iOS 18 and it uses less battery life. I wish I had changed over to Apple Music years ago!
I use both but for different reasons. I use spotify for finding new songs, but apple music has undeniably better audio quality
I feel like if you use spotify you just do zero due diligence. Whats the point of listening to music if you dont care about the quality 😂
I think it's not a problem of Apple that they do a better things than others.
You got a couple of things wrong! 1. Apple do not stop subscriptions via an external web site (Netflix, X formally Twitter and Spotify) they have to do their OWN marketing not use Apple platforms to market it (eg links in Apps). 2. Siri can integrate with any app as long as the developers do the correct coding, however Spotify has NOT done this so this is down to them not Apple. Google Play Store has more malicious apps than App Store 🤷♂️. You also forgot to mention that Apple Music is better quality music and pay more to the Artist than any other Music App.
That's right, I forgot to mention many things you said in your comment
I'm trying to develop my reseach skills and hopefully next time I cover more thing
Id rather pay for the the acct and get hi res and dolby and better quality on music using apple music used Spotify for 4 months then switched to apple music i genuinely feel Apple Music feels better
I went from Apple Music to Spotify and went back a day later 😂
I was forced to use Apple Music because I was using a Spotify ad blocker, that blocks all ads that are not spotify made, so it was chill. One sudden moment, after around 2 years unsing this, Spotify blocked my song suggestions (basically stopped showing other songs after I listened to one of my songs. I had the very hard decision to make after they removed the lyrics, and I had to port to Apple music. To this day I think Spotify algorithm is way better, but because of their pettiness, Im not switching back. Now Im a full Apple Music customer (Android), and I cant say that its better because the reccomandations are not as good as Spotify (1 year of Apple Music), but man, it has some very neat features. I liked Spotify because it was a way to listen to music in a reliable way when I was little, because it was free. Now, Spotify lacks innovation sadly. I hope they make a comeback.
honestly spotify is getting so greedy. no lyrics, looping or skipping songs and the 2 30-second ads every 3 songs is insane. i would switch to apple music if i could tbh
Spotify is saying complete bullcrap, it’s the global rate, and other music apps like Amazon music don’t have Siri integration
Spotify is fails from the beginning. After watching this video I’ve decided to download Spotify on my iPhone. And immediately experienced problems with login using google account. Then after stupid questions about my GENDER and my age i was sent back to login screen (what’s ur business. I’m here to listen to music and not get propaganda suggestions). I had to confirm my account and login again.
Spotify really suck, especially when it comes to paying artists, sound quality compared to Apple music...
Definitely Apple Music
And for the video, It criticized Apple monopoly practices, not Apple Music
@@1VONGARD i cannot say that ui totally sucks, BUT it’s so cringe that multimillion dollar company UI is not smooth and has short but noticeable freezes when expanding player even on my iphone 15 pro max.
But i feel really sorry for them when I noticed sign saying “You can't upgrade to Premium in the app. We know, it's not ideal.”…they cannot even mention that you can purchase subscription on website. I bet that loose a lot of potential customers and money because of that. I work in IT, so I quickly figured out that you need to go to their website and purchase it. But most of people have really bad at computer grammar, as a result lost customer
@@1VONGARD one more thing. Instead my username I see some hash as my profile name. It’s so damn stupid bug for multimillion company. Their dedication sucks.
How many songs do ya'll have in your playlist? For me I have 507 in spotify and apple music might sound better but spotify probably has more songs and options like podcasts and other stuff.
streaming services like RUclips, Apple Music, and Spotify won't be around forever. Physical media is making a comeback, and CDs and discmen are the future of music. Say goodbye to the days of endless scrolling and ads, and hello to the joy of owning and enjoying your favorite music in its purest form. Long live the compact disc and discman!
I had Apple Music since like my first iPhone then I switched because all of my Friends had Spotify but I cancelled my subscription after the first month because Apple Music is just a better and cheaper product
So where is the stealing part? Apple's business model involves charging a 30% commission on all apps, including Spotify. This practice is not considered theft, but rather a standard business practice within the Apple ecosystem.
The only thing I use Spotify for nowadays is Podcasts. If Apple Podcasts had integration on gaming consoles and Google Home devices, like Apple Music currently, I’d ditch Spotify in a heartbeat. Oh, and I wish Apple Podcasts could add 3rd party non-Apple devices to cast to instead of AirPlay. AirPlay isn’t terrible, I just prefer not using and staying connected to a speaker over Bluetooth. The only thing Apple has done with Podcasts is launch a website for it and made a terrible Amazon Alexa skill for Podcasts.
I just wanna try hires audio like does does this sound and its only easily available in apple music and i tried it and I'm not going back in yt music or Spotify or any other music platform becoz apple gives so much detailed lossless dolby atom aac lhdc ldac codec supported audio with even studio like hires lossless 24bit 192khz audio formats all this audio formats available in apple music in just 99rz per month im ok with this i loved this
I Like Spotify music I don’t use Apple music anymore but I do like using RUclips music 🎵 that wasn’t really mentioned in this video along with Amazon Music
Lol no one uses Tidal
If you use your brain you think that the 30% commission doesn’t apply to Apple Music because it’s apple what do they mean like how eBay pays it doesn’t use App Store like do that
spotify has the nerve to say the cost of music production is "basically free"
I have both apple music and spotify on spotify ul'll find much more music than apple music though !!
I used to use Spotify but it was my nanas family plan when she got rid of the family plan I got Apple one with Apple Arcade, Apple TV and Apple Music been loving it but I loved the video seeing what’s been happening behind the app
As much as I love spotify and use it over Apple music they got too comfortable at the top. Instead of getting petty with the competition they need to innovate more. Stop taking away features. Increase your audio quality or lower the price. The problem with Spotify is that the price is not justified. If it came bundled with another subscription for 12$ a month and they were committed to always innovating like Apple music the user base would skyrocket
aint no way this is bro's first youtube video 😭 i wouldn't be surprised if you were secretly MKBHD or something
😅😂 Just a normal guy that loves tech
So unfair Spotify audio quality is so bad that RUclips sounds the same or better
My spotify and apple music are both 6.50€ But i prefer spotify as i listen to really niche songs that apple not have
Windows for PC and apple for mobile devices is the way for me.
they good like if thats the case just make spotify desing a SpoPhone, i just like to switch whenever i got 3 months free trial
For Android users we can get a apk that makes Spotify free
I’ll never use Spotify, it’s not worth the money.
The apple tax is actually such a ridiculous burden to overcome. Apple should not be allowed to block apps from redirecting users to a website that skirts the tax.
So you are on the side of a music company that not only rips it’s customers off by cost and software(Spotify) but also doesn’t pay artists anything and criticises apple while Apple Music is more fair priced music service that is ethical. And instead of being one sided maybe tell us why you don’t criticise android for adding RUclips music to their phones
I'm not,
I just made a research & shared knowledge
You can use the best one you like
very interesting video! I’d check grammar in the future though, as it can be jarring and cause some accidental implications.
I'm forgot to re-check, it was my first video
But thanks for your comment ❤️
Spotify steals from and makes money on the backs of a lot of artists. Even more so when you’re not on a major label. Poor poor Spotify.
I could feel a bit of sympathy, if only they paid a fair amount to ALL artists on their platform.
I think they got what they deserve
Hella underrated channel, only 755 subs wow

I switched to RUclips music from Spotify after it had a price hike to 10.99. RUclips premium may be more expensive but I get access to all the useful features in RUclips and music. I also purchased it online so apple doesn’t get that 30% lol
Sure, RUclips Music is the best deal

You know that 😬
I used Spotify for years to listen to music, but for almost a year now I've been using Apple Music almost exclusively, as it's simply more pleasant to use and sounds better with lossless audio etc. And Apple Music has simply made better decisions when it comes to the user base...
And yes, it is more convenient to have your data in relatively safe hands with Apple...
I agree 💯
Spotify has many technical problems with their app, plus the sound quality is better on Apple Music
Best choice 👌

Guidelines and rules are different things. Apple Music follows the same guidelines as Spotify but doesn’t pay the 30% as it is part of the iOS system. Apple Music also pays artists more than Spotify, a lot more.
Also, Spotify doesn’t let users upgrade to premium through the iOS or Android app anymore. They rather lose a subscription than to pay 30% to Apple or Google.
You can only sign up to Premium on their website ever since the lawsuit. They’re not failing because of Apple Music, they’re failing because of multiple bad business choices they’re making in desperation to profit.
Apple pays more to artists you forgot to mention
Totally my mistake
Since Apple own the app store so they do not need to pay 30% commission which make them to keep the price lower than competitors ! EU commission need to force Apple to make a system of each app they own and have a competitors needs to reduce the 30% commision to 15%, such Apple music and Apple TV pluss and Apple Arcade! it is not fair!
i didn't expect this title will ever be an interesting topic to discuss
Yep, I didn't see anyone talking about it on RUclips
Apple Music is quickly closing the gap with Spotify by offering a superior user experience, exclusive content, and innovative features. Its growing library and strategic partnerships are making it a strong competitor in the music streaming industry.
What a strategy by apple how is it going go to pay a 30% commission fee to itself 😂😂😂
Probably 30% goes to the App Store/Apple in general, and the other 70% goes back to specifically Apple Music
I guess some parts of the company have their own budgets? Not sure.
