Rush - Limelight (full cover by Brody Dolyniuk & Nina DiGregorio)

- Brody and Nina present their latest offering - a full cover of the popular Rush classic Limelight (originally released on the Moving Pictures album in 1981).
This idea began with Brody suggesting Nina add it as one of her popular "famous guitar solos covered on electric violin" series. Brody considers it a personal favorite of Alex's many great solos, and thought it would lend itself well to the violin.
Then as a birthday gift, Brody granted Nina's long-time request for a Rickenbacker bass guitar. It was a given that a Rush song would be in the near future. So, shortly after returning home after getting married in New York, the newlyweds began laying down tracks for the full song, with Nina on electric violin (a custom Mark Wood Viper 6-string model) and the Rick bass, while Brody played drums, guitar, synth and vocal.
Great care was taken to preserve the sound of the original recording....although the solo is played on violin vs guitar, and we obviously had to make do with electronic drums and plugin (virtual) amps and effects.
Brody and Nina took turns filming each other with an iPhone and the mix/edit was done by Brody in Logic and Final Cut Pro.

This had all the components necessary for me to loathe the effort: two people playing multiple instruments/tracks and mixing, electric violin, wearing Rush shirts throughout the desecration, etc. In fact, the only reason I clicked was because I was feeling snarky this morning and thought I would entertain myself and others with some sarcastic criticism. And then. You freaking crushed it. Just lit it up. Now I have to go to 11AM mass and repent....

Ive been listening to Rush since their beginning and went to many of their concerts. Know every lyrics, notes and variations of their music even went to Neil’s house in Morin-Heights. This is the most masterful tribute I’ve heard of this unforgettable Canadian trio. Magic.
You didn't put a foot wrong, Nina & Brody. I've seen RUSH covers before, but yours is on another level - even your voice Brody, is not far off Geddy's - that's tight pitch. Nice improvisation with the six string & bow too, Nina - Hugh Syme would be proud. Phenomenal, both !!
Not only did you blow the doors off this cover you allowed the public to like I have seen in others feedback to open many people to the fact that that of true musical talent and the diversity of musicianship. Very rare in this day and age. . And as a follower and a former 80s bassist You both reinforced the essence of true musicianship , Thanks as it about quality

It does so much justice to the originals, yet lands it closer to the mainstream. Vocally Brody has the right tone to create a wider audience for Rush' music. Nina ads the right tweeks with those violin solos (yes that Wood Viper speaks volumes). "Losing It" certainly is one of the most significant songs so many discarded. Brody and Nina make it gel so well, it is absolutely magnificent. Luv it!

Absolutely spot on. Brody is, as I've written before, a vocal chameleon like no other. Violin solo was also surprisingly enjoyable.
One of my favorite songs ever, by one of my favorite bands ever. And yes, they absolutely NAILED IT. I’ve seen Rush live 14 times and I appreciate any artist that attempts to cover them. There are a million Rush covers out there and this is one of the finest. For real. The solo, omg. What can I say. Never seen an electric violin solo before. Alex Lifeson would be proud. Moved to tears by the solo and by seeing the poster on the wall. WE MISS YOU SO MUCH NEIL!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
