  • The Monkees performed a series of concerts in Japan in October 1968. One of the concerts was filmed (most likely during the two day, three concert stay at Budokan Hall in Tokyo on October 3 and 4, 1968) and later broadcasted on Japanese television. The audio recording and video footage, however, has never been officially released. The audio (straight from the video) does exist as a bootleg but the video footage is presumed lost or destroyed. Monkees archivist Andrew Sandoval has confirmed that multiple attempts have been made to find the missing video footage. "It was definitely broadcast and there has been communication with TBS [Tokyo Broadcasting System) in Japan to retrieve anything they had," he wrote on Facebook in 2017. "We asked many times and have been told they have nothing. Unless they made a film print of the video, it is unlikely it survived."
This is an audio recording of "Cuddly Toy" from that broadcast. The song was originally released in 1967 on The Monkees' fourth LP, "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." and was written by a friend of the group, Harry Nilsson.

Thankful that the audio of this has survived. With today's technology, it would be great to see it cleaned up a bit and released officially.

Never seen these pics, so awesome! Peter is really hippied out. He was the quintessential educated, informed and well spoken Hippie.

Sadly now that three out of the four are gone ,the music industry will probably show them some appreciation and respect .

Great Nilsson tune. This version is better than other Monkees versions, but Harry's is still my fave. They sound better live on their own than they do on studio lps or their tv show!

No, I can hear Tork's voice so it's probably as the video says - 1968.
