I feel like I’ve just stumbled upon a genre of music I’ve literally never heard before. It’s like, black...acid...country. It reminds me of how sometimes you need to take in something bitter after eating too many sweet or rich foods. This is like that for my ears. I’m kinda diggin it 👌🏻
Its like "acid gospel". Something like William Faulkner or Flanny O'Conner's characters would sing to themselves as they walk thru their Southern Gothic lives. Tom Waits is a genius! Keep pulling on Troubles Braids, Tom.
If you are interested in where this song fits: it follows Dylan singing “Jewels and binoculars hang from the mule but these visions of Johanna make it all seem so cruel” After Tom song Jack takes the floor (Rambling Jack Elliott) singing muleskinner blues. Then the waterboys singing “The whole of the moon”
I like the way you think. The only quibble that I might raise would be to have a different Waterboys song. I would pick "A Bang On The Ear", a song on my personal ongoing playlist. I do appreciate you're posting this comment though, thanks. Peace 💚 (For context, I had my world turned upside down two and a half years ago, losing my daughter, father, and wife in a 15 month stretch, not trying to be anyone special, just decided being socially polite doesn't work for me these days.) Peace 💚
Huh...so here's where I earn a nerd card. Deep rock galactic...it's a game about asteroid mining dwarves with guns in space. They got a robot mule to haul the loot. It's called, among other things, Molly.
Big Jack Earle was a real big guy. Molly B'Damned was real too, from Ireland to Idaho. The James Brothers sure were real folks too. Birdie Jo Hoaks' story is as weird as they come. Tom likes to eulogize weird folks like us. And KooKoo the Bird Girl, as well.

It takes hard work to live in this crazy world. Sometimes you lose a grip on your own sanity. You got to get behind the mule in the morning and plow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM !
71 BIG ONES.
Heck Toms same age as me.....not good I thought he was older

No ads. First class service.
This is my driving to work song.
And 'Come on up to the House' on the way back home....
I've known this song for decades via Government Mule / Warren Haynes cover. Never realized it was a Waits song.
You gotta get behind the mule and plough - you have to get up early and work with what you have. Hardass work/survival creed Brilliant song.
What a unique voice
Tom's music encapsulates the worst of the struggles, that we all face.
Cathartic comes to mind.
Great product ❣👍🔺️
RAW and TRUE !
I used to love listen to a certain channel on XM, and they'd be playing music like this
I feel this every god damned day
Bout to bury another friend. We dont seem to make it much past 40. Our group.
The final part is unreal
Good song

Freedom is a mythical creature
I get up at 5 every day to make coffee and get ready for a 7am shift. I dismantle and recycle computers for a living. This song is my anthem.

Back home we'd be using a rototiller, 😊

Molly be damned smote Jimmy the Harp
With a horrid little pistol and a lariat
she's goin to the bottom
and she's goin down the drain
Said she wasn't big enough to carry it
She got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
She got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
She got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
She got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
Choppity chop goes the axe in the woods
You gotta meet me by the fall down tree
Shovel of dirt upon a coffin lid
and I know they'll come lookin for me boys
and I know they'll come a-lookin for me
Got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
Got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
Got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
Got to get behind the Mule
in the morning and plow
Big Jack Earl was 8'1'
He stood in the road and he cried
He couldn't make her love him
Couldn't make her stay
but tell the good Lord that he tried
(Chorus)
Dusty trail from Atchison to Placerville
On the wreck of the Weaverville stage
Beaula fired on Beatty for a lemonade
I was stirring my brandy with a nail boys
Stirring my brandy with a nail
(Chorus)
Well the rampaging sons of the widow James
Jack the cutter and the pock marked kid
Had to stand naked at the bottom
Of the cross
And tell the good lord what they did
Tell the good lord what they did
(Chorus)
Punctuated birds on the power line
In a Studebaker with the Birdie Joe Hoaks
I'm diggin all the way to China
With a silver spoon
While the hangman fumbles with the noose, boys
The hangman fumbles with the noose
(Chorus)
Pin your ear to the wisdom post
Pin your eye to the line
Never let the weeds get higher
than the garden
Always keep a sapphire in your mind
Always keep a diamond in your mind
(Chorus)
Sew idk... Barnes n Cornhollis, krunk drow kirksdine exchange sketcha boom Lyle...
riickenbacker vocals
That's such a good way of putting it wow
You need to listen to Karise Eden singing this song
I'd like it if I could shake the feeling that he's doing a schtick.
ニルバーナがカバーしたミート・パペッツの曲に似てる
BOY/JUNG!
this feels like it would fit right in in cowboy bebop
Yea or Firefly
There is a track on Cowboy Bebop's OST that interpolates a Tom Waits track. Compare Midtown with Bad Dog No Biscuits
This should've been in red dead redemption 2 🤠🤡🤡🤡
This is absolutely vital data for future artificial intelligence evolution. More human than human. Z --oSo-- was here.

Nope. He does not.

Welcome to an entire genre. Explore it. The goods. RW Burnside too.
