I don't know if Puccini ever addressed this issue, but in my heart of hearts I believe that here Mario shows until the end what an amazing person he is. Because he has to know that Scarpia would never agree to such a charade. Yet he plays along with Tosca to the end, pretending that he believes in it in order to comfort her. Just as he endured the worst of physical torture and would not betray his friend.
@@Zeppolino100 You may well be right. I've seen the one with Gheorghiu and Alagna, (personally my favourite), and the look he gives her as he is led away to be shot almost leaves no doubt. Tosca is meanwhile oblivious, so when she finds him dead, she knows Scarpia's treachery and is immediately broken. And as Spoletta's sinister repetition of "Come Palmieri" implies, Scarpia's done it before.
@@CathyKitson Thank you my friend! I had never seen that version before, and finally watched it this morning. With your help I am even more convinced that we are correct!
@@Zeppolino100 I'm really glad you enjoyed it, Zeppolino. It's a beautiful production. Gheorghiu is so beautiful and Alagna so handsome, and the sets, (the real locations, of course), are breathtaking. And their singing isn't half bad, either haha!!
@@rupert99 Yes, it is. "Avanti a Dio!", "We meet before God!" If there is a God, Scarpia is destined for hell, and hopefully Tosca for Heaven, despite the murder she committed. After all, she rid of the world of a despicable murderer, torturer and rapist.
Still one of the best games of all times !!
Espectacular! Siempre que veo el fin al de Tosca se me pone la piel de gallina
Beautiful, well filmed, and gorgeously sung.
oh isso é tão lindo, Hitman: Blood Money me trouxe aqui, que maravilhoso ❤

You think he definitely knew?
@@CathyKitson Personally, yes. I know other opera fans that agree. But as I say, I do not KNOW for certain what was intended.

Scarpia was truly vile, one of the few characters in fiction with not one redeeming feature. Yet Tosca dies with his name on her lips, not Mario's.
It is a threat !

No
I love the way Agent 47, by replacing the prop gun with the one with live ammo, makes life imitate art. Beautifully executed 😆
Underrated
She's great, you need listen to Angela ghergiu in this final
Ben Fatto, Quarantasette.
haha. Half of these comments are about the Hitman game. See kids you can learn something from video games.
