I'm a middle-aged guy who just started hunting in the last few years. Tried some grunting and snorting thx to you gents this year and had a ton of fun at our property talking to bucks this year. I sat at the edge of a pond with a doe that I'd bumped on the far edge and a big ol'buck past her on the other side of a ridge. He and I snorted and grunted at each other for a good 5 minutes until the doe decided to head in his direction and then I never heard another word from him. I guess he was saying all the right things haha. Anyway. Tons of fun and thx to you guys. I'll keep at it. Learning more every year. Great channel Thx.

Appreciate y’all. I had a 7 point hot on the trail and moving away from me at about 150 yds. I had watched this video the night before and just tried a grunt by mouth out of desperation. He turned around and came in on a string. It was amazing.

I saw this video before last season. While hunting Western Mt. in November, cold as heck, around 9am the sun came out I got too comfy and fell asleep against a stump. I must of been snoring and or breathing hard. I woke up to the sounds of snort/grunts/weazes in the brush. I repeating what you say here everytime he did. 10 minutes later I pulled the trigger on a nice 4x4 whitetail. He`s on my wall now ! I call him the Sleeper buck.

I have to be honest here, as an avid viewer of your channel I picked up on this technique this year and prior to this video. So, I tried this on opening day of rifle here in NH while still hunting. I took a 168 lb 8 pointer that day. Beginners luck they say..maybe? So, I decided to hunt opening day of rifle in Vermont on public state land with a lot of hunting pressure. There were no shots at all within hearing distance as I made my way to the top of the mountain. I also saw very little sign until I got to where I knew I wanted to be given that I had hunted there in past years. At any rate, when I got to my spot, I cleared some leaves, broke some branches, sat down and mouth grunted just like this video. It wasn’t even 5 minutes and my hunt was over as I had a 4 pointer come right in to me. Game over. This technique works great and I love not having to worry about tying up my hands to operate a grunt tube. You just never know when you’ll need to be ready and so, for me, that means always. Thanks again for the great video. It’s back to Vermont for muzzle season now and maybe I’ll go back to NY or MA as well.

I am the Shawn Upton comment above. I would love the jump em over and over video. That was me in WI this last weekend. On good tracks every day. New snow, quiet (and soaking wet, low visibility like your video) Jumped buck from beds close - heard him go at 30' on Sunday but never saw him. And never caught up the rest of the day...7.5 to 11.5 mile stomps for 5 days through knee deep snow - fun, fun, and frustrating. Continuing to play the law of averages though. What you said bout grunting a jumped buck so true...just letting him know you are coming after while. I even did the wait 30 min. Tip from Hal Blood and they were still wise and turned into cross country runners. So bad just wanted a look at them. Got to feeling like are these really deer or just ghosts with big deer hooves messing with me. Have one more muzzleloader day for the season and will try again. Thanks for the great vid on voice grunting....I have gotten better at it cause of your encouragement.

Was louder than any grunt tube can make but that was just one time. Now living in British Columbia and only hunting Mule and Blacktailed deer and they dont care what you do they just ignore 99% of all calls. I miss whitetails . Great video guys , thanks for sharing.

How does that work though if that's a warning call ?

    • @CalmBeforetheStormME
      @CalmBeforetheStormME 3 года назад

@@wesleyshuntingfishingandre7059 you may be thinking of a deer blowing, that’s a warning call for sure.
A snort wheeze is a different sound all together, it’s a very aggressive buck sound that a buck makes when he is trying to intimidate another buck. It could scare off an immature animal, but used during the right time of year and it could make a difference in getting a shot at a bucks or not. One of my most unused calls but it’s nice to throw out there in the right moments.

  • @audreymeyer5616

Very helpful. I used to make all kinds a silly noises when I was a kid growing up and I can still turn that on today at 35. Ever since I saw Hannah Barron make that noise with her own mouth, I was like, uh… I gotta do that!
I thought at first she was burping to make that noise. Haha but it is more like the grudge. That I can do, but keeping it steady and deep is a bit tricky. I see deer in my back yard all the time. I will just sit out one day and just call them and see.

  • @chadclark6348

Today was only my third day hunting, ever. I was seeing a lot of deer but couldn’t get them in close enough for a shot. I watched your video at 730 Am and by 1030, I had called in two bucks at the same time, using grunts and wheezing. One beat feet when he saw the other buck stomping, grunting and moving around crazed at my calls. Well, the other buck walked right into my buddy’s sites and he dropped the 11 point 190lb big boy.
Unfortunately, the other biggun took off at the sound of the shot but the calls worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing the video guys!

    100% agree!
I always try to sound like a young buck.
You have to sound like you are beatable. There are giant bucks out there that are just non-confrontational or not as social.
Even when I rattle I always tickle the horns. Never crash them unless the buck is 70 yards away and it’s windy.
    Always grunt softly.
    Bottom line.
I have no issues calling in mature bucks with this approach.

But it is still not as loud as exhaling while doing it. It is effective for me. For about a hundred and fifty yards. To about two hundred yards on a quiet day.

I'm glad to hear, and looking forward to the jumping a buck over and over video. I'm "that guy". I know I need to slow down, but even when I seem to slow down I always jump them on the other side of a hemlock, just over the edge of a ridge, or on the edge of a swamp where I see them for a half a jump and gone. Now the game is on......... Very much looking forward to the next vid. Good luck finishing out the season. I love tracking, but man do I suck at it!!! LOL
I also think so much of it depends on confidence while trying different things. I used to grunt when on a track if I broke a limb, or coming out of immature beeches after making a lot of noise. I never had the success with it, so now I'd struggle with "Am I just giving myself away more than I would have if I'd just shut up?" Confidence plays such a huge role in tracking IMO.

I’ve notice most of you wearing the same rubber boot. Would you mind sharing what brand they are and maybe your opinion of them. You’d be doing my feet a big favor. Thank you and good luck.

We wear LaCrosse Burley Button Tread boots. Mostly the non- insulated ones because we are always moving so much. But they offer awesome grip in all directions because of the tread. And are a great all around boot for the $
Each of our videos have a link for them in the description. If you would like more info. 👍

IF YOU TAKE A DIFFERENT APPROACH IT IS A LOT EASIER AND YOU CAN MAKE THE TONES VERY M,UCH MORE EXTREEM JUST INHALE INSTEAD OF EXHALING, JUST GO BACK TO YOUR CHILDHOOD AND DO WHAT ALL KIDS DO WHEN THERE YOUNG, ONCE YOU GET THAT RATTLE IN THE BACK OF YOUR THROAT. PINCH YOUR NOSE SO NO AIR CAN GET IN AND CUP YOUR HAND AROUND YOUR MOUTH AND YOU WONT BELIEVE HOW GOOD YOU CAN MIMIC EVER SOUND DEER DO,

I didn't see any flip covers on Rodney's scope. The two times I went out this year with snow on the trees, as much as I tried, my scope (no flip covers) got snow in it and regardless if I was able to wipe it and get it usable, it was never really very clear after that and by the end of the day, my scope pretty much sucks...any tips?

Ive always wondered why you fellas wear a throw over blaze vest, instead of just your "Beagle wear?"
jackets with orange on them? not sure what your jackets are but they look like Beagle.
Obviously Safety first, but when i was a kid i threw all my orange away! Hated it! i went from the age of 14 to 28 with just Camo! never had a problem, though now my boy is hunting we look like road cones!
Safety First!!! Good Luck this season with the OL' Smoke Pole's!

Yup they’re Beagles. It’s just that the coat’s orange is so faded and with the Blaze Orange Laws the coat by itself doesn’t meet requirements 🤷‍♂️ but that’s ok we’re going to try and get the orange redone 👍

@@mtndeer I didnt realize VT now had Blaze orange laws, like PENN or Maine ill have to look in to it!
MY Bear rug is a handed down family heirloom from my pops, he was 217 pounds and charged my pops, he shot it in the head at only a few meters away.
A hunting story ive grew up with and cherished my whole life, and to top it off , i have the Bear Rug, but he's in need of a Tune up something Fierce!
My pops is trying to retire from hunting! but each season he's still tickled to come with me a day or two! 23 years ago he started me hunting and tought me everything i know today! so each year he's giving me mounts of his to keep for ever!
Cant believe michelle knocked his Buck off the wall! NIGHTMARE!
