  • Over the past few weeks, we showcased some of the sustainability efforts. As we've grown over the years, minimizing our impact on the environment has always been a focal point of our development.
The CSR video displays our #UNGOALS focus areas and some of the initiatives we've pursued.
We are constantly working on optimizing and innovating our production processes to ensure a sustainable high-quality range of products.

I dont think there is any other way around it, I usually reuse the plastic cups for aquarium maintenance and stuff

That's a good point; it is a process and hopefully one day we will find a suitable alternative.

I love the idea of this video, but its impossibly tedious to get through, a voice over would be much better received as people don't tend to want to read videos :)

Fabulous suggestion: we'll consider it for when we'll put together version 2.0

I love you guys, but you have a massive sustainability contradiction with the amount of plastic you use. The oceans are already full of it, and we in this hobby love and respect nature. It fills me with sorrow every time I open a Tropica product (or other aquarium industry product) and am left with the garbage: plastic, plastic, plastic.
Biodegradable options exist. Let's do better, for our hobby, and for our planet's future.

Thank you for the support! We really understand the struggle and doing our best to find suitable alternatives. All our plastic components are recyclable, and where possible we are swaying towards more sustainable packaging, but at the time this is the optimal solution when considering the type of products, their lifetime and the production cycle. 🌍🌱

@@TropicaAquariumPlants Thank you for the response. I am imploring Tropica to be leaders in this industry. Recyling is not the solution, as it simply puts the onus of plastic disposal onto the consumer, and you cannot control recycling policies around the world. In my country, Canada, at best, 9% of recycled plastic is actually recycled. Statistically, every product I have bought from you over many years, 91% of of it has ended up in Canadian landfills.
For more information, "The Plastic Industry's Fight to Keep Polluting the World" published by The Intercept, July 20, 2019, is a great resource.

Could a solution be a return system the same way as with bottles? The customer pay a small fee for the plastic pot when buying plants, and the store is obliged to take the pots back in return and later return them to Tropica? Obviously, in order to be certain that it is “genuine” Tropica pots, the name “Tropica” could be ingraved in the pots.

That's a rather interesting idea Kasper. If the environmental cost of reprocessing the cups (collecting, shipping, washing & sterilizing, shipping them back home, re-processing them) is lower than that of a new cup, it might be worth it.
