  • Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Wouldn't you like to be an artist in Paris? Today, let's travel virtually to Paris together, and plop down in one of the streets to draw!
We'll use Google streetview to find a good spot. I'll use a fountain pen and a little bit of watercolor.
While I draw, in today's video I am giving you tips on using negative spaces (draw the sky instead of the building!) when drawing architecture, taking artistic liberty (don't count windows, draw someone closer in view), not being too accurate, using repetitive patterns that you see, and finally limiting your colors. How much time do you have/take when drawing on vacation, and how to juggle drawing time when you’re with non-drawing travel-buddies? It's all covered in this generous drawing demonstration and I hope you enjoy it.
Your assignment for this week: Go to Paris (or any other city you'd like to visit!) using Google Streetview, find an interesting spot (don't spend too much time on this - everything is interesting as soon as you start drawing it!) and draw it. Think about what seemed interesting to you in the first place about the view you chose, and how you could perhaps emphasize on it with your colors. Have fun!
Of course, in this video I am giving you lots of tips and guidance. Can you imagine how much more it could be when we would hang out in Paris together in Person?

This channel always delivers such good guidance for people new to art! Not many instructors place such emphasis on continuous line drawing (maybe because it's challenging to teach), but it's an incredibly effective way to break through hesitancy and just get on with the act of sketching! It's a great way to start with the big, general issues in the drawing and work toward detail in an efficient, information-dense approach.

Didn't look great at first, but then it really came together in the end! I love and envy your minimal use of color. I try to apply it to my sketches as well, but it doesn't come naturally. I'm sure I would have colored more and more areas, and would not have achieved the minimalistic and simply results that you did. I hope to get better at that. Great video!

If you have a sense of where you want your focus to be in your drawing, that can help to decide (and minimise) on color.

Not being accurate is exactly what I needed to hear as I get frustrated with proportions and caught up in unnecessary details, so thanks. My heart leaped when I heard Marcus' name. Way back in my years in Paris, I used to work with him at a photographers agency. I'm so happy he's part of that project and soooo frustrated I won't be able to attend😢

@@brendadavies3942 sorry, I get so many questions and I misread. Twice. 😬
I use a converter in my fountain pen, with a bottle of Platinum carbon black ink.
Whew, I hope it’s all cleared up now!
